Started great, but kind of rushed in the end.
ceejay_bordas21 June 2020
I rarely do watch seasonal anime, but for once in my life, since I have all this free time during quarantine, I decided to try watching some anime that aired this season. One of those anime series is Yesterday wo Utatte (Sing "Yesterday" for Me).

It's refreshing for me to watch a show that focuses more on human drama, or drama in general, one of my favorite genres. The first couple of episodes were particularly noteworthy, mostly because of the protagonist who I somehow empathize with despite me still being a student. The plot was interesting and I wondered how a Seinen type of anime would handle it. The way the characters of this world were introduced was great. I kind of like the rough-ish art style and the soundtrack was good. I also appreciate the show's quiet, minimalist approach when characters are talking with each other as to give emphasis on what they are saying.

Speaking of characters, I thought they were quite good. That is, until we reached the last couple of episodes. When I found out that this show only has 12 instead of 18, I thought to myself: "How will this show end?" I had no idea how the anime will have a good conclusion to a plot that takes it time to build up. There were some good dramatic interactions and some bad interactions with the main cast as the show comes to an end. What I thought was a good show that tackles relationships between friends and lovers, ended with a sudden conclusion that would have paid off were it not for the fact that it felt rushed and could have been better if it had more episodes to develop the plot and the characters more. Seeing the extras did lighten me up about the show a little bit.

I may read the manga soon, since I have heard that the ending is different. However, at the end of the day, what started as a great show, turned out to be kind of rushed in the end.

It has its charm, but a bit dragging. Haru is great!
Rakshun20 February 2023
Ok, so I watched this show because of Jill Harris voicing Haru. And that's a true plesure, both the character and the voice talent work there, I can tell you. There are many scenes I watched multiple times just to listen to her sentences. (I discovered Jill's work first in Higehiro as Sayu, she also voiced a lovely character there, however, that show is a bit more controversial than convenient for me. Don't skip it tough, it's just fantasy, you don't have to agree with everything you watch. There are movies where they are killing people, you know...)

As for the rest of the characters and the show I can't really highlight anything. It's average at best and twice as long than it should be. As a positive point for me the presentation and the dialogs are mature. No fan service, no annoying creepy characters, no stupid jokes, it's a slice of life anime. If you have time and nothing more interesting to watch, it can work. As others mentioned already the two MCs are just annoyingly indecisive. You have to watch them mature and come to a conclusion at the end and it's a pain to watch them sometimes. You will watch lots of cooking, eating and walking. Sometimes I asked myself why I watch these losers, but I just returned time to time. This show has some charm for sure.

The ending is cool.

I demand more Haru! ;)

ps. I came back and raised my point from 7 to 8. It's not average, it's just slow. But nice nonetheless.

Loving this one so much. And it's just so hard to wait for every week for an episode to come out. I'm so dying with impatience.

Sing 'Yesterday' for Me
Tweekums28 June 2020
Rikuo has recently graduated from college but has no ambition to do anything with his life; he has a job at a convenience store. Things are about to get interesting for him as he meets Haru, a somewhat eccentric girl who is frequently accompanied by her pet crow; and Shinako, an old college friend who is now a teacher. Things are further complicated for Shinako as her late boyfriend's younger brother clearly has feelings for her.

This is a fairly gentle anime series with realistic characters leading ordinary lives; there is no major drama, no fan service and it isn't a comedy... that may make some people think it must be boring but I'd 'disagree; I enjoyed the pace and found the realistic characters fun to watch. The animation is good and the character designs and backgrounds fit the realistic feel of the series. It won't be for everybody but I'd certainly recommend this to anime fans looking for something different.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

A decent story to get around
WeAreLive30 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Rikuo some dude with no ambition after graduating from collage works at a plan small supermarket. Then his ex girlfriend out of nowhere shows up and his life changes. Even more so when he meets this cute chipper happy girl with crows as friends. Haru Nonoka.

Okay it's been a few months since I watched this anime and haven't had a chance to update due to university so do bare with me:

In terms of goods I thought the animation and art style was good and it suits the relax but occasionally complex tone of the series.

The plot while I do have some issues like some of the weird love triangle relationships. For example Shinako still liking Rikuo, while the person who she is guardian towards Rou liking her and Haru liking the former. Even though I did find it more so with Rou and Shinako with how Rou constantly forces himself on her but at the same time Shinako not willing to let go of the past.

I will admit while I was disappointed that the anime doesn't have its own unique intro I still it was a nice touch.

Voice acting I suppose the sub is fine the dub however, well let's just say it's very weak. Let's get through the good voices which would have to be Haru, Minato, Kinoshita and maybe Shinako even though she sounded very different in one episode. Rikuo sounded very emotionless and bored, Rou's actor was just sounding he was trying to hard to play a character which he is clearly not good at while the others are either decent, passive or couldn't care less about their work and only wanted to get paid.

Aside from that it's a decent series.

Thought it was good at first but the love triangle drama surrounding this anime put me off....
Irishchatter19 May 2020
I honestly thought I could hold in these love triangles any longer. However I'm just giving this up after watching 7 episodes, I just couldn't continue it with its annoying pointless drama. I really thought this series was going to be good with Rikuo and Haru getting together but it's just yeah, turns out it wasn't for me bro!

If you enjoy love triangles, here's one to binge while in quarantine!

When is the right time to move on?
angepavl13 June 2022
Sing Yesterday for me is propably one of the most relatable series for anyone who struggles with moving forward or feels stuck with his life. Whether you lost someone you loved, or you face unrequited feelings towards a special one the struggle is there. It weighs you down leaving you with the feeling that you are not quite living your life, but more like that you are putting certain things on hold.

It deals with many difficult topics. When is the right time to move on from something? How long you must fight for someone even though they don't feel the same way about you? Are you shuting new people off by staying stuck in the memories of the past? Is timing crucial to certain emotions?

Give the series a chance if you feel you relate with any of these situations.

It won't let you down i promise!

"Sing Yesterday for me" 9/10.

Good talents, interesting start but boring development
The-Last-Sith-Lord25 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This anime assembles great voice talents, such as Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro from Demon Slayer), and the Japanese legend Maya Sakamoto (one of most beautiful voices in Japan for me). The beginning of the anime is kind interesting, having Rikuo Uozumi as main character, a college recent graduated, without any dream and kind lost in life, just living his days working in a part time job in a convenience store. Then he meets Haru Nonaka, a teenager who got expelled from school because she got caught working in a pub. I kind love the introduction scene of Haru Nonaka, very cute, cheerful character with her raven as pet, she is the character who brings the charisma to this series. She have feelings for Rikuo, although he doesn't remember her at the beginning, she always stops by the store to see him. Then, we have Shinako Morinome, who was very close to Rikuo on college and now she works as a teacher, and she also starts stopping at the convenience store to see Rikuo. (She is also the one who Rikuo have love interests for).

Basically, the story is centered in the love triangle of Rikuo, Shinako and Haru. But the character of Shinako is what slow downs the whole story, she is still in love with a boy who died when she was a middle school student, and she is trying to move on using Rikuo for this purpose (poor guy).

The story's main problem is that we have two characters (Rikuo and Shinako) who doesn't know what they want, they are always confused, and the writer focus soo much on this point and forgets to add more interesting situations to develop the characters, you really don't see any interesting progress from ep 4 to the end. Most of the scenes ends to be the main character escorting Shinako or Haru to their homes at night (half of the anime is the main character escorting them to their homes.. (what gentleman *rolleyes*) the writer really seems to have ran out of ideas for other situations for the characters, which made the development of each character really slow down to almost none for the entire series).

Jumping to the end, Rikuo finally realizes that he is just being used by Shinako and it's impossible to get over the friend zone (she is afraid to move on until the end, even being officially dating with him for 3 months) and Rikuo goes after Haru. The main problem here is that Rikuo spent the whole series ignoring Haru, he never showed interest for her, and here is the point that having the whole series slowed down on Shinako's indecision, the writer never gave us any situation to make Rikuo have a real emotional interest in Haru. I though we would see something interesting on the episode when a robber entered on Haru's house, but nothing happened, all happens off-scene and we just see the main character playing the adult talking with the police.

For those who enjoy this kind of love triangle stories, I recommend watching "Hige o Soru. Soshite Joshikousei o Hirou." and "Domestic Girlfriend" over this anime.

Hidden Gem

First anime in a long time where I felt like the ending was fair without being cheesy or predictable. The ending wasn't rushed as some would say, it was in fact very well paced, and there were a lot of twists in the middle.

Clearly not an anime for everyone, and I personally enjoyed it very much.

For a new series that did so well, I gladly give it a solid 10.

To slowpaced
pierrekassam13 November 2020
I honestly don't get how some people say this was to rushed it is very slow and i ended up falling asleep to the same episode trice. For a 12 episode anime this took way to long to finish. The story is good but gets to repeated and the main characters undetermined personality is aggravating. This wasn't for me but if slow paced love triangles sound like something you would enjoy then this one is for you!

Underwhelming
frankica18 February 2023
Drama for the sake of having drama, no real culmination of events leading up to it. Every new complication they added was more pointless than the last one; I know this is supposed to be a cute little series, but it still could've been thought out more. The last episode is incredibly rushed and gives little to no explanation to the behviour of main characters. All in all, it was an okay watch, entertaining but no real grip to it and disappointing in the end. I wouldn't not recommend watching it, I'd just recommend watching it with no expectations of it being great, just something cutsie to pass the time.
