‘The Art of Marvel Studios' What If...?, Volume 1, is a new Abrams’ official art book written by Paul Davies, showcasing director Bryan Andrews, Emmy-nominated Disney+ TV series “What If…?”, “that questions, revisits and twists classic moments”, from the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’, available August 27, 2024:
“…with each story, ‘The Watcher’ acts as a guide through these various timelines and raises such questions as: What if ‘Ultron’ successfully defeated the ‘Avengers’ and acquired the ‘Infinity Stones’?
“What if ‘Peggy Carter’ was injected with ‘Super Soldier Serum’ instead of ‘Steve Rogers’? What if ‘T'Challa’ became ‘Star-Lord’?
“Filled with striking imagery and a bold color palette, these timelines are brought to life in an animation style that is complementary to the look and feel of the ‘MCU’ …

One of the most interesting upcoming MCU projects is certainly ‘Marvel Zombies.’ Not much is known regarding the plot of the series except for the fact that it won’t be a direct adaptation of the famous comic storyline, but we can assume that it’s going to have plenty of gore and action sequences.
‘Marvel Zombies’ is the first spinoff of the ‘What If…?’ animated TV Show and it continues the universe established in the episode titled ‘What If… Zombies!?’
According to popular leaker and scooper CanWeGetSomeToast fans can expect Scarlet Witch not only to make an appearance in the show but to serve as the main villain as well. Following the faceplant and failure of “The Marvels” last November—Marvel’s lowest-grossing film of all time and their first big bomb—pundits were seemingly writing an early epitaph for Marvel Studios. But three Marvel cycles later, the super-well-received “What If…?” season two in December, the much-better-than-anticipated reception to the live-action “Echo” series in January, and the glowing reviews of “X-Men ’97, things definitely appear to be on the upswing for Marvel.

One of the best things about the X-Men is the vast roster of characters that allow a myriad of people to see themselves as a member of the mutant superhero team. But if you were a kid who wanted to be all of the mutants, you may have gravitated towards Morph, the shapeshifter who could temporarily take on the appearance and superpowers of any other mutant out there. During my childhood years, there was many an argument about who would get the honor of pretending to be Morph on the playground.
Even though Morph (originally voiced by Ron Rubin) seemed to meet his maker in the first episode of the original "X-Men: The Animated Series," the character eventually returned from his presumed grave, albeit under the influence of the villain Mr. Sinister. Morph used his shapeshifting abilities to create chaos among the X-Men on many occasions, but thankfully, he was only acting on Mr.

Disney officially confirmed six shows headed to its streaming service over the next couple years from both Marvel and Star Wars, giving fans much to get excited about.
2023 was a relatively light year for Marvel on Disney+, with only two live-action series (Secret Invasion and Loki Season 2) and two animated shows (I Am Groot Season 2 and What If...? Season 2) releasing last year. Then, Echo kicked off the McU's 2024 content with its early January release.
Meanwhile, Star Wars had quite a busy year. 2023 saw the first seasons of Ahsoka and Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, the second seasons of The Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions, and the third season of The Mandalorian.

Another Marvel series is forgoing weekly episodes, opting for a historical binge release on Disney+.
Recent months have shown the streamer experimenting with how to release MCU shows. For instance, What If...? Season 2 embraced a daily release pattern while Echo enjoyed a dual debut on Hulu and Disney+ where it dropped all five episodes simultaneously.
Now, Marvel's next new show is upping the ante by premiering its entire 14-episode second season on a single day.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Marvel Studios' first animated series, What If...?, weren't allowed to use a few key superheroes on Disney+.
Dozens of MCU stars took their live-action roles to the animated side of the franchise in both seasons of What If...?, which showed alternate-timeline versions of major events first highlighted in the Infinity Saga.
But outside of brand-new character Kahhori being introduced to the MCU through this series, What If...? hasn't yet ventured out into some of Marvel's biggest superheroes that are confirmed for introduction at a later date.

At a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels more and more creatively stale, with the box office reflecting this, "Marvel's What If...?" is a breath of fresh air. The animated show offers writers and animators an opportunity to tell the kind of wildly creative stories that the McU's movies can't — both because they have to adhere to the Marvel formula and continuity, and because of budget constraints.
Though the first season was a bit formulaic, with most of the episodes following the plot of a previously-released Marvel movie (but with a little twist), the second season did a better job of exploring the infinite possibilities of the MCU multiverse. As Vanessa Armstrong wrote in her review for /Film, season 2 was "a zany, refreshing mix of stories."

Marvel's "What If..." has employed a mix of reprisals and recasts from the movies. Captain Peggy Carter may have the super soldier serum, and Strange Supreme went down a darker path, but they're still played by Hayley Atwell and Benedict Cumberbatch like the originals. Tragically, T'Challa-as-Star-Lord also went down as Chadwick Boseman's final performance.
On the other hand: Mick Wingert fills in for Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Lake Bell plays Black Widow instead of Scarlett Johansson, and season 1 big bad Infinity Ultron was voiced by Ross Marquand, not James Spader.
"What If..." season 2 brings in two characters not seen in season 1, Hela (the villain of "Thor: Ragnarok") and Wenwu (the villain of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"), and pairs them up in episode 7: "What If... Hela Found the Ten Rings?" The episode splits the difference on recasting: Wenwu is voiced by Feodor Chin,...

Thanos just died for a seventh time in the MCU after the latest episode of What If...? on Disney+.
For the first 11 years of Marvel Studios storytelling, Thanos was at the center of the MCU as the driving villain behind it all. The role was played by Josh Brolin across most of his appearances, and, even after he died in Avengers: Endgame, he continued to rack up more MCU credits in Phase 5.

This article contains spoilers for "What If...?" season 2.
"What If...?" season 2 only just premiered on Disney+ and brought with it another round of fascinating adventures through the multiverse. The Marvel Cinematic Universe could have turned out any number of ways -- had certain characters made different choices along the way. This new season kicks off with a Nebula-focused episode titled "What If... Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?" As the title implies, it sees the adopted daughter of Thanos taking something of a hero's turn as a member of the Nova Corps. But that gritty hero's journey almost wandered down a dark path.
Showrunner A.C. Bradley recently sat down with IGN to break down the show's second season. In discussing the season premiere, which was written by Matthew Chauncey, Bradley explained that the whole thing came about simply because the show's creatives love Karen Gillan's work as Nebula (and...

Marvel's "What If...?" season 1 had a lot of conceptual promise and so-so execution. Seeing the promise of the multiverse fulfilled via a highly imaginative animated anthology series was exciting, yet the art style and animation left a lot to be desired.
For season 2, Marvel doubled down on the zaniness of the concept, serving up even wilder stories and visuals. As Vanessa Armstrong wrote in her review for /FIlm, season 2 is "a zany, refreshing mix of stories." There's a "Wild Races" episode, a "Die Hard" homage, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's comic book story "Marvel 1602," and even an episode about a new hero named Kahhori, a First Nations woman of the Mohawk tribe.

Marvel's "What If...?" is creatively one of the best things to happen to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More than big crossover movie events, more than the many, many TV shows expanding the world through new kinds of characters, it's "What If...?" that really fulfills the potential of the MCU. "Star Wars" didn't become such a massive and beloved franchise with the movies or the shows alone. It did so with the expanded universe of books, games, and comics exploring smaller, weirder aspects of the galaxy. "What If...?" season 1 wasn't perfect, and it still adhered too close to the formula of the McU's films, but it showed promise in how it unleashed the imagination of what was possible in the MCU.
Now, season 2 will attempt to build on that by telling more stories that aren't simply pulled from the McU's films. Take the brief trailer shots of what looks like an...

There's been much talk of late about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the decline, that superhero movies have become oversaturated, and that the general public has been fed at least one multiverse too many.
There's truth to that statement if box office numbers are any indication. And I'd argue that some of that decline is in the over-bloated plotlines that fans got tired of keeping straight. But there's an upside to the multiverse phenomenon: Setting stories in different worlds with different rules opens the door to fresh storytelling. Even more so, telling a tale in one of these alternative realities unshackles the writer from being beholden to the machinations of the overarching sagas the MCU likes to tell.

Even with its shortcomings, Marvel's "What If...?" season 1 is the closest the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to realizing the true potential of the multiverse in terms of storytelling. The hope, then, is that the animated series will dispense with the training wheels entirely with its next batch of episodes and really have fun with the concept, rather than restricting itself to re-imagining events from MCU movies and TV shows past. And so far, it appears season 2 will do just that, with an episode inspired by the Neil Gaiman-penned Elizabethan era comic arc "1602" and another one centered on a brand-new character in the form of the Mohawk hero Kahhori.
Of course, there's still plenty of room for new stories featuring old favorites, including treasured supporting players and frequent comic relief sidekicks Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau). Those two specifically will team up in "What If.

When Marvel's "What If...?" season 2 premieres later this month, fans will be taking another look at some other pockets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kahhori was created for the animated series with a lot of influence and input from the Mohawk people. The episode is done completely in the Mohawk language with subtitles, and the people running the show are very excited about it.

A new comment on social media may have indicated that Elizabeth Olsen will expand on her return to the MCU as the Scarlet Witch in 2024.

And after taking on leading lady duties in the hit Disney+ series WandaVision, many are wondering whether she'll reunite with Kathryn Hahn in the upcoming Agatha: Darkhold Diaries spin-off as well.

The McU's next Disney+ show is bringing back the young T'Chaka actor from 2018's Black Panther.
Marvel introduced Atandwa Kani in the film's opening scene as a young version of Wakanda's King T'Chaka, with the older version being played by Atandwa's father, John Kani, in both Black Panther and 2016's Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel and Disney+ have been sprinkling out little details about season 2 of the Disney+ series "What If... ?" over the last few months, like a proper introduction to the Alternate Gamora, as well as the inclusion of Marvel's first Mohawk superhero, Kahhori, who was created specifically for the show. The character's inclusion was actually spoiled early when she appeared as part of a limited-edition Funko collectable, so it's clear that Marvel has high expectations for the new episode. The series has been called "the ultimate superhero fan fiction," and boasts some truly incredible animation.
The first season of the hit series looked at what would happen to all our favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe characters if things had been different. In season 1, we saw what could have happened (and maybe did in a different part of the multiverse) if Peggy Carter got the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers and became Captain Carter.

If you don't already know composer Laura Karpman, she's one to watch. Of course, if you're a video game geek, you probably already know her work from such games as the "EverQuest" series, and if you enjoy genre TV shows, you may have heard her music on the "Taken" miniseries from 2002 and 2020's too-short-lived "Lovecraft Country."
Yet her most prominent film and TV work so far is undoubtedly with Marvel Studios, with whom she's been associated for the last several years. Breaking into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the animated anthology series "What If...?," she then went on to score the 2022 "Ms. Marvel" series on Disney+. Now, she follows Kamala Khan from that series to the character's big-screen debut as part of "The Marvels," which sees director Nia DaCosta sitting in the director's chair this time as she follows up 2019's "Captain Marvel" starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers.

The McU's Watcher made an appearance in a Phase 5 project before the second season of What If...? premieres.

What If...? is set to return around Christmas and will feature both new and returning heroes throughout the Marvel Multiverse. But before that, fans can see Wright's Watcher in another Phase 5 project — I Am Groot's second season's finale, as first revealed in the season's trailer.

In a continuation of its recent pattern of delays and schedule changes, the MCU removed another 2023 show from its slate for the year.
In the summer of 2022, Marvel's Phase 5 slate had a whopping seven Disney+ shows set for 2023 — Secret Invasion, the second season of What If...?, Echo, Loki Season 2, Ironheart, Agatha: Coven of Chaos (now renamed to Agatha: Darkhold Diaries), and the first season of X-Men '97.
By September, fans have only actually seen one of those projects, Secret Invasion, and between reported internal changes at Marvel and the ongoing Hollywood strikes, the rest of the year has not looked very promising.

As the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue following the failure of the AMPTP to negotiate a fair, non-exploitative contract with either union, the entire entertainment industry has been in flux. Writers went pencils (or Final Draft) down, ensuring no new films or series would have union talent, and not only are actors not performing already-written scripts, but they're also not appearing on press tours, promotional events, or premieres for already-completed projects. It cannot be overstated how vital celebrity interviews can be to the success of a film. "Barbie" recently became one of the highest-grossing movies, ever, and while that success was not single-handedly due to the press tour, all of those bonkers Ryan Gosling press clips certainly didn't hurt.
Because of this, the release dates of movies and TV shows, even ones that are already completed, have been delayed because the studios know they need the support of the talent involved,...

Marvel Studios has reshuffled the release dates for its slate of television shows.
What If…? Echo, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos, now titled Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, are among the titles receiving new dates. The move comes amid Hollywood’s strikes as well as a general pullback at Disney+.
The writers strike began May 2 while the actors went on strike July 14, significantly impacting production and development. At the same time, sources say Marvel wants to focus its efforts to make each title an event for fans and audiences. The studio has decided that spreading out its content is a more prudent strategy.
