The Irish Connection is a partial sequel reboot of Moussaka & Chips (2005) but set a few years later. Astin Brody Sean Davies character makes an appearance early on and Charlotte Green Helena Roman is referred to several times.
Danny Patrick: [Robocop] There are multiple conversations and references to the original Paul Verhoeven RoboCop (1987) - including Maltese Radio Presenter discussing meeting Peter Weller, when Agnes visits the Priest. Miranda's conversation with Debbie "I love smart women, smart is so sexy", the same reference Miguel Ferrer says to his female guests.
Kathy Deehan Introduces herself as Sister Assumpta of the Five wounds, which is the introduction Robbie Coltrane introduces himself in Nuns on the Run (1990). Camille Coduri who played Faith in Nuns on the Run, is the Mother of of Rosa Coduri-Fulford who plays Aureille in Maltese Connection.
The movie is loosely based on an Ad lib by Jason Gerard as Jay in Moussaka & Chips (2005), whilst arguing with Danny asks him "what about that Brighton thing, I have a half brother I didn't know anything about" Moses Gomes-Santos who plays the Priest in Irish Connection, Jay's half brother is originally from Brighton.
Paul O'Doherty replaces Danny Ogle as Danny and Jack Bence, replaces Jason Gerard as Jay - as it was felt both actors were too old to continue as their characters from Moussaka & Chips (2005).
Matthew Hendrickson: Agent Joshua Marks from Moussaka & Chips (2005), as a tourist in Malta arguing with his Girlfriend Musanete Sakupwanya, who is ultimately saved by his phone ringing.
Miles Petit: Miles Foster from Moussaka & Chips (2005), as Aureille's trainer; originally he was meant to appear with his Moussaka co star Charlotte Green Helena Roman but the actress was unavailable at the time of filming.
