Exclusive: The company that sells The Traitors format around the world and the Japanese broadcaster behind Ninja Warrior and Takeshi’s Castle have teamed up to create a physical gameshow.
All3Media International and TBS have already partnered to create one show, Lovers or Liars, which launched internationally at MIPTV this week. The duo are getting back in business together to create a second format, which they will bring to market at MIPCOM in October.
Speaking to Deadline at MIPTV, TBS’s Head of Format Development Shunsuke Fukaya and All3Media International’s EVP, Formats & Licensing, Nick Smith, shared the news of the second project, but would not reveal anything else, except that is a new twist on the physical gameshow.
“TBS is known for creating the large scale physical game show like Ninja Warrior and so for the second project together, we want to try out the physical game show,” Fukaya said.

Vance Walker finally claimed victory as the next “American Ninja Warrior” during Monday’s Season 15 finale, but the journey to winning certainly caused him a fair amount of grief.
After hitting a buzzer during Stage 3 of the NBC competition show’s Las Vegas finals, Walker, along with eight other remaining contestants, went head-to-head to climb the infamous Mt. Midoriyama 75-foot rope climb. While Walker finished his climb with the best performance so far with 3.25 seconds to spare in the 30-second challenge, the 18-year-old finalist had to wait to claim victory until seeing if Caleb Bergstrom and Rj Roman beat his time.
“Waiting to see if I’d won the million dollars was the most terrifying experience in my life,” Walker told TheWrap during a Tuesday morning interview. “I’m already nervous when I’m on the course, but when you’ve done what you needed to do, and it’s...

Jdrf, the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization, is thrilled to announce the 2023 Jdrf Children’s Congress, a three-day Washington D.C event that will bring children living with T1D face-to-face with lawmakers and top decision-makers.
Youth delegates from across the country, as well as Jdrf’s five international affiliates, will be joined by celebrity advocates to call on congress to renew the Special Diabetes Program (Sdp) and advocate for policies to ensure insulin is available at an affordable and predictable price.
The Sdp has accelerated the pace of T1D research through a long-term investment of funding at the National Institutes of Health. The program has led to significant scientific breakthroughs, including Tzield, the first disease-modifying treatment for T1D, which can delay the onset of the disease by over two years. Without Congressional action, the Sdp will expire at the end of September.

By establishing the Spy Ninjas universe, Chad Wild Clay and Vy Qwaint created a world in which mild-mannered YouTubers join a team of high-flying crime fighters. Now, the husband-and-wife duo is launching a facility that will welcome visitors to their squad. Spy Ninjas HQ, set to open in the spring, will bring a new YouTube-inspired theme park to the Las Vegas area.
Spy Ninjas videos, which feature high-flying stunts and fantasy themes, resemble action-packed video games. To maintain that feel, Spy Ninjas HQ will let visitors “be the game.” Upon entry, guests will be given wristbands that they can use to track their progress across all of the attractions that will be available within the theme park. That system is an example of “Irl Gamification,” which is brought to Spy Ninjas HQ by family entertainment consulting firm Fallout Zones.

Exclusive: The Masked Singer might just be getting the Coronation Street treatment.
ITV is understood to be preparing more Masked Singer mashups with its stalwart shows as The Masked Dancer’s budget is redirected, Deadline understands.
The Masked Dancer will definitely not air in 2023 and could be axed full stop, while ITV instead looks at making more Masked Singer mashups in the vein of last year’s The Masked Singer: I’m a Celebrity special, with several expected to be dotted throughout the year.
Sources from the UK entertainment sector said ITV will continue utilizing its tentpole brands for the mashups and one speculated long-running soap Coronation Street could be next.
Along with I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Britain’s Got Talent, The Masked Singer has become one of ITV’s biggest entertainment juggernauts, with the final airing tomorrow. It regularly attracts more than 5M viewers.

American Ninja Warrior – Pictured: (l-r) Matt Iseman, Akbar Gbajabiamila — (Photo by: Elizabeth Morris/NBC) What has made American Ninja Warrior must-see TV for millions of Americans on a regular basis? Is it the competitors? Is it the amazing feats of athleticism? Or is it the hosts, Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila? Well, if you ask the two hosts — who might just be a little biased — the answer is a simple one: Of course, it’s them. The two-hour return of “American Ninja Warrior” kept the lights on for NBC on a rerun-laden Wednesday but it was a slow start for the premiere of the network’s 10 p.m. sci-fi drama “Reverie.”
“Ninja Warrior” won the night in the adults 18-49 demo derby with a 1.2 rating and 5.4 million viewers from 8-10 p.m., according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen. The unscripted summer franchise was on par with its ratings marks from 2017.
“Reverie,” toplined by Sarah Shahi and Dennis Haysbert, shed half of its “Ninja Warrior” lead-in, finishing out with a 0.6 demo rating and 2.9 million viewers in the 10 p.m. slot.
The latest edition of Fox’s “MasterChef” also had a two-hour premiere Wednesday. The cooking competition series was on par with its recent performance, bowing to a 1.0 in the key demo and 3.6 million viewers.
ABC was wall-to-wall comedy reruns for the night, led by the 8 p.m.

Holly Wofford and Jane Y. Mun are stepping into the ring as exec producers and showrunners for Tko: Total Knock Out, the obstacle-course competition series with a twist that’s coming to CBS in the summer.
Hailing from Mark Burnett and MGM Television, the 10-episode series is hosted by Kevin Hart, who also exec produces. It features one player racing through daunting obstacles while four other contestants are manning battle stations along the course, firing over-the-top projectiles in an attempt to knock them off and slow them down. Just because it’s a holiday doesn’t mean we have to watch reruns. An original “American Ninja Warrior” dropped a new “Bachelor in Paradise” last night, leading to a Labor Day victory for NBC. Monday actually marked the first time this summer that “Ninja Warrior” bested the “Bachelor” spinoff in the key 18-49 demographic. They’ve tied once before. “Game of Thrones” has ruled the non-prosthetic makeup Emmy category for four out of its six seasons — winning Emmys the last two years in a row. But the race is wide open this season during its hiatus, with the nominees ranging from perennials “Vikings” (its fourth nomination) and “Penny Dreadful” (its first nomination) to newcomers “Westworld,” “Stranger Things,” and “This Is Us.”
While the Norse-driven “Vikings” (“All His Angels”) offered lots of tattoos, scars, and blood, and the supernatural “Penny Dreadful” (“Perpetual Night”) boasted a rogues gallery of scars, creepy flesh, and gore, the race will come down to sci-fi dual universes and time-hopping family drama.

“American Ninja Warrior” has become much more than just a TV show.
There’s an entire Ninja Warrior cottage industry now: Ninja gyms and local competitions have popped up across the country. Fan favorites like Kevin Bull, who started competing as a walk-on contestant in Season 6, have turned being a ninja into a career. There’s even talk of making it an Olympic sport. (Given the NBC connection, of course.)
“These ninjas have sacrificed a lot personally, financially, just to go after the thing that means the most to them,” said host Akbar Gbajabiamila.
For Bull, that meant putting aside his career as a stock trader to work full-time as a ninja warrior. As one of the show’s ambassadors, that also includes a lot of travel. He also has donated his time in working with the Children’s Alopecia Project, a cause he has spotlighted on the show.

When it comes to the Emmys, gender representation has always been a bit of a struggle behind the scenes. In non-acting categories, especially when it comes to technical awards, there’s a lack of female representation that’s persisted throughout the industry. But this year, there are bright spots to be found.
This is not a complete representation of all of the year’s nominees — there were many other female nominees whose work was noteworthy — but here is a selection of the strides women made in 2017, often in categories largely dominated by men.
