NO. SPINNING. ALLOWED.
ElijahCSkuggs18 April 2020
It's important to know that I grew up playing a little bit of foosball. Not a ton, and not against any type of talent, but enough where I was able to pass it back and forth to myself and blast home some super rad shots. I'm also "seasoned" enough to know that spinning in Foosball is the biggest noob move going. If you're a cute girl who's doing it to laugh it up, that's fine. But that's it. Not even you cute guys can spin and it's not up for debate. There is no spinning in Foosball.

With all that burped up and on the table, let us get on with the movie at hand. Foosballers is one of...not many films about the undervalued table sport. You have this gem and then you have the 1981 film Long Shot and then a mockumentary called The Fabb Four made in 2008, and lastly a short doc called Foosball: past - present - future made in 2006. That's about it. So there's some slim picking if you got a hankering for some foosball action.

Minus Longshot which is a teen comedy that's probably more about getting the girl than getting the trophy, Foosballers is the undisputed champ of Foosballery. It paints us a handsome picture of it's heyday, it's downfall, it's rules and everything in between. And of course, it talks to us about the players that got the sport rolling in the early days all the way up to the leading men and women knocking that little ball around to this day.

Foosballers is a total success of a documentary. Like any other atypical topic, from video game high scores, to the best arm-wrestler in the world, to big wave surfers, there is an underlying factor that must be expressed. And that, my quarantined friends, is passion. Which could just be a diagnosis for advanced addiction with narcissistic tendencies, but who's to say. Could just be love for the game though. Oh, I don't know. What I do know is that addiction for Foosyfoos is on display big time and it's fun to watch.

To sum this up, Foosballers brought home the bacon and fried it in the pan. It shot it's little ball right up and straight into my heart. I'm now on the hunt for a used Tornado foosblaster3000 and mark my words, you will hear of me the next time the you hear the word Foosball. I will be king. My Foosball name will forever be echoed in bathrooms of gamerooms everywhere. Everyone's going down. Tony. Todd. Cindy. You're all dust! Forever shall my name be trembled and feared. For my foosball name is...FOOZBALLGUY23!

Foosballers is a victory for underdogs everywhere

I loved the film. It was a moving and hilarious tribute to the fringe. Both the sport itself and the characters that dedicate their life's passion to it. A moving and honest trip into a world I had no idea existed. A must see.

Very interesting film making, loved it!

I was in Calgary over the weekend and saw Foosballers at the CUFF film festival. I don't really know what I was expecting, but loved to play when young so was drawn to it. I was completely blown away. The film briefly covers the history of the sport and how huge it was in the 70's and 80's prior to the Pac Man and Donkey Kong invasion. There were World Championships with $1M purses and a new Porsche to the champ. The director then dug up some old champs for some touching nostalgic perspective and connected with the latest stars of the sport to follow them leading up to the recent World Championship in Kentucky. The film transitions to the tournament with some great backstory and I was totally invested. I won't spoil anything, but will say an old champ from back in the day and a young stud brought the film to a fitting climax. I know nothing about film making...but the music, production value and fly on the wall perspective were incredible throughout. Highly recommended.

Excellent, Unique Film

Foosballers is a gripping documentary that follows various professional foosball players as they try to win a national championship. The director Joe Heslinga melds elements of comedy, drama and suspense to tell a very human story about a lesser known sport. I highly recommend.

This is Foosball !

I watched the movie, and I have to say...I loved it. I am playing foosball at a decent level and have met most of the players starring in the movie, so it has a special meaning to me. The movie has a good balance between comedy and drama. After watching the movie, we can really figure out how much work is required to master the various pieces that make Foosball so enjoyable. Thumbs up to the post production work, especially with the redrawing shot courses, that is a brilliant idea, I loved it! The BGMs are carefully selected and perfectly communicate the emotions of the protagonists. On top of this, Jim Stevens' commentaries are just marvelous, all I can say is "This is Foosball".

To make it short, I highly recommend this movie to foosball players, and non-players. It is so fun to watch and very informative. A must see !

Awesome look into the world of foosball
builtbymike-3014114 October 2019
This movie blew my mind. Just dropped so much knowledge on the history of foosball. Everything from the highes of the 70s to the lows of the 80s. To the rebirth thats still going on today. The film does this culture justice. Joe I gotta say playing you yesterday was awesome but the film you presented in buffalo was amazing. Thank you so much for providing us and the rest of the world with what we didnt know we needed.

High production value, great story, and a memorable cast of characters. I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised with one of the most interesting sports documentaries I've seen recently. Highly recommended to everyone, including those who know nothing about foosball.

A fantastic story
frankblake-511035 May 2019
This movie has it all. It has action, adventure, historical context, and the highs and lows of of of the best sports out there. I have to say this movie exceeded all expectations and I know it can be enjoyed equally by foosball players and non players alike. Very fun to watch!
