Brought me to tears
Amiri173 October 2019
I was skeptical about going to the cinema to watch a 2hr 15 minute concert film, however after leaving the cinema I have absolutely no regrets. This combined elements of cinema, theater and of course music. The accompanying images shown during the songs complimented the music perfectly, and the sets where incredible, especially the Battersea power station which was recreated during the performance of songs from the Animals (1977) album. (Everyones lowkey favourite floyd album) I will say I did find the 10 minutes of aggressive Trump bashing during the performance of Pigs slightly excessive, especially as Waters seems to want to promote peace and unity with his music, I did feel this could have used a little more subtlety. Apart from that, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this film, I actually found myself with tears in my eyes during the performance of Another brick in the wall PT 2, I styled it out by not wiping my eyes, and my friends still think I am a tough guy. The musicians were absolutely astonishing, all of them put in a flawless performance.

Highly recommended!!!

A new way to listen to Dark Side Of The Moon
redd04874 October 2019
It's not just a concert. It's a mix between a Roger Waters show and a drama movie, that tells some parallel stories about minorities, war, humanity and all of that stuff you can expect from Waters (so, yeah, it's very political, no surprises here). I was expecting just a concert movie, but the documentary aspect made it superb and very emotional, so it's not just a "boring" regular movie show.

Roger Waters knows how to perform a magnific gig, and this tour sounds just like a modern Pink Floyd, unlike his old tours wich the musics sounded like just a good Pink Floyd cover. Also, it has a very good mix, just like the The Wall Tour, wich is one of the best live mix I've listened.

This time, the projections shows a orb travelling trought our world, just like it would be in a Pink Floyd concert. If it may now sound exactly like Pink Floyd, it at least it LOOKS like what a modern Pink Floyd show would be (of course, with a lot of political questions).

Also, the show is the Dark Side Of The Moon album, but with some songs added in the adulthood part (B side). The order of the songs are perfect and make it a incredible show with a more complex narrative. A must watch for Pink Floyd fans.

(I don't get why people dislike Roger Waters or any people just by his beliefs. Yeah, he says a lot of garbage, including about my country, that he knows nothing about but still saying some superficial stuff. But I can separate Waters pollitical opinions by Waters artistic side, and yeah, this show is a masterpiece and can be enjoyable... unless you REALLY like Trump.)

Classic Songs done by the man himself
celt00728 August 2020
Waters one of the founding and driving members of Pink Floyd brings his version of some of the bands classic songs to this concert . Well filmed and the sound is very high quality . Some may not like his anti Trump message near the end , but Rogers a product of lower middle class England in the 60s has always had something important to say . Definitely worth a watch and listen .

A fantastic look into one of the greatest tours ever performed
declannshields2 October 2019
This film is a phenomal glance closer up to Roger Waters' magnum opus tour.

I was lucky enough to be there for the actual tour and this film stood up as about as close to that experience as you could get. The directing, cinematography and VFX are fantastic, the film looks unbelievably good!

All of the imagery is captured so perfectly that it's hard to imagine how it could be done better! It truly captures the feeling of being there, this film also provides a deeper, clearer look into the message behind the tour, told through the film presented on screen behind the band, which is delightfully presented in full screen clarity in this film, with parts added.

There is so much to love about this concert film, Roger still sounds fantastic, it's shot brilliantly, it has a powerful, poignant message about the state of the world, and of course, the music is beyond brilliant.

Don't miss the opportunity to see this masterpiece in cinemas! Fingers crossed they release this on 4k blu ray! Shine on!

Made me angry, made me shed a tear and made me appreciate Pink Floyd even more
scott-240755 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
If the intent was to create a feeling of anger and sadness, enough to motivate someone to rethink the current world and political state, job well done. It did just that and I was actually amazed how it created that much emotion in me. The images of the world state of people, the plastic wastelands, the Trump phrases, all that it suggests we are not in a good place. In this immediate moment of despair created by this masterpiece, I quickly thought of Greta Thunberg and her efforts, my teenage niece today posting on Facebook about buying in bulk and the young people's rising sentiment about climate change in general. Within the concert audience in this movie, there were many young and old who hopefully will make a renewed effort from this inspiration. I know I am going to do better, more so than ever before. What is most amazing is the relevance of the music and lyrics of Pink Floyd after so many years. It is just as relevant today as it was so many years ago. Thank you.

A message for future generations
cmccreary-141-9355962 October 2019
Us and Them is something that should be shared and watched amongst everyone around the world. Every minute of the event has been thought out to present the confronting reality of what our world has become. Symbolism is used to present the audience with strong political ideas that are very prevalent in today's society. This live performance has broadened my understanding of the music and will eventually be an event to go down in history! Well done Roger Waters

Stunning

Unfortunately I missed out on seeing the live show due to being away on holiday. Being a huge Pink Floyd fan I found this absolutely stunning. Can't wait for the blu ray release.

An emotional trip, like usual, and by that I mean it's always SUPERB!
deloudelouvain14 March 2020
This movie/concert only deserves a ten star rating, anything lower is just not justified. I'm kidding of course, if you don't like Pink Floyd or Roger Waters it's your right to not like it, but reading from another reviewer that actually likes Pink Floyd smashing this movie down because there is too much anti-Trump propaganda or too much leftist propaganda is just ridiculous. What did you expect from Roger Waters? That's exactly what we (Pink Floyd addicts and fans) want to see. His music is about everything that goes wrong on this planet, and Trump is part of that. That said, Us + Them was a show I didn't see yet (live I mean). I had the honor and pleasure to see them five times live, with the biggest concert of my life in Berlin in 1990 to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall eight months earlier (half a million of people singing together that's just a moment I can't describe), so you could say I can judge them fairly, or at least compare the different shows. The truth is that Us + Them had me four times in tears, and that's not a bad thing at all, on the contrary. It's just a powerful concert, and that you can witness in the audience, which you see in several shots, they are clearly all touched by the whole gig . This show is visually very powerful, and musically it's just Pink Floyd, and that's by definition always perfect, the best you can get in music.

The music was great - but be prepared for a left wing political event
dboyer013 October 2019
I guess this film is pretty much what you would expect. The music/stage production/sound/video was amazing. Wonderful hearing all the Pink Floyd favorites and the band was amazing - my favorites were the two blond "twins" with the heavenly voices. But be prepared to sit through a very political event as Waters unabashedly puts all his politics on display. If he was really concerned about "us + them" he could have put a few shots of the twin towers burning and collapsing, or ISIS beheading prisoners in orange jumpsuits.

A life changing movie if you've never seen the tour. A reminder of humanity for those of us who have.
michaelornelasope3 October 2019
Genius. Everything about it. The production of his tour and the way it is portrayed in the film is fantastic. This is definitely something everyone should see, even if you aren't a "Pink Floyd Fan". Those that review this movie poorly, are strictly doing so because they feel the "right wing is under attack". This is not the case, it simply highlights the reality of challenges our world face and remind us all that there is no Us & Them. We are all humans and need to collectively make it work.

Plus the music itself is sublime. MUST SEE.

SUPERB SOUND SOUVENIR OF (mostly) FLOYD SONGS in a suspect 'F. you' screening of gig presenation!
Bofsensai3 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Although, note: TEN stars for the song sound presentation: just over half (6) for the whole shebang ...

Rog's latest gig brought to the screen by the same team / pair - Rog himself with Sean Evans - as successfully did his prior concert screen rendition of his 'The Wall' (back in 2014), this is similarly superb as either a memory of, or chance to savour if you didn't get to see, his latest tour gig performances: songs played pristinely and occasionally interestingly tweaked (no plot spoilers, but wait for 'Money' being unexpectedly, ah, 'interrupted', plus 'Machine' and 'Pigs' marginally for those fans who know.), of which Rog is shown demonstrating well - and rightly proudly - that it was his bass riffs that drove this as especially so almost immediately in with e.g. 'One of These Days', all shown in a pleasing to the eye slow enough, fluid camerawork style to appreciate what's going on, as opposed to too often of gig footage fast cut editing.

But for this one the - BIG - downside is that it would seem that Rog's legendary ego (may have) got the best of him (and / with Sean?) in this one as there are just far - far! - too many close-ups of Rog's grizzled and unkempt hirsuite* frequently almost manic grimacing features to the detriment of the overall show's visuals' presentation. The most egregious for me was having to tolerate the umprteenth close-up shot of his frankly recoiling features during the 'Welcome to the Machine' rendition, which otherwise had in the background screen the original (first used c.1975 / 7) Ian Eames' mechanical dinosaur animation, all but obscured* to be lost to any who had not seen / known of it before, which is a great pity as it visually aptly augments the song's lyrics, of course.

But back to the filmic rendition: one of the most interesting aspects of the tour is well and faithfully shown of the presentation of the now lost to gentrification London Battersea power station, the original to become unwittingly of iconic status to the (Floyd) 'Animals' ('77) album - and that especially so for the playing of that album's 'Dogs' performance here, which then also captures for those long term fans what Rog coincidentally - (if not may even have been deliberately) - with its mid section band champagne imbibing, seemed to obliquely reference right back to his erstwhile bandmates on stage culinary interludes of the early seventies (e.g. with preparing 'breakfast' during 'Alan's Psychedelic' performances, or even latterly, with Rog and co playing cards during ...); yet of which, becomes curious that from this is now also captured on celluloid (yes, I know, now really, pixelated digitalisation, or the likes) is the incongruity of now - (also deliberate?) - close up of when Rog then spit-sprays the champagne over the front row audience; i.e. either in keeping with Rog's reputation to indicate contempt, or - I suppose we must assess, in view of his heartfelt 'there is no 'them', we are all 'us' / 'we are all one' exhortations at the gig's end - an ironic of in the extreme kind play on his very own former infamous 'spitting' incident on the same track's '77 Floyd tour, which then eventually 'inspired' the whole Wall oeuvre! Point is, this aspect / part of otherwise just a tiny bit of the whole gig, is focused close up and up towards Rog's aforementioned well grizzled visage on the huge cinema screen which thus now makes this - surely, unintentional? - otherwise tantamount to insult to the adulating audience (still) stand out so viscerally!

:DVD 2020 issue update: of interesting note, this is now missing, relegated into the accompanying extras *Fleeting Glimpse' featurette: (it's just 15 minutes):

Of whom - those adoring audience: now, presumably, anyone who gets a ticket AND gets favour to be in the front rows of the gig, are - OBVIOUSLY - besotted fans and presumably will enjoy the occasion, joyously gesticulating, feeling requisitely moved (to tears!) and naturally singing along with their idol's lyrics: but do we need to constantly see them, rather than the famed theatrics / huge screen depictions shown on the stage? I did NOT pay my cinema ticket price to see adoring fans in close up CONSTANTLY throughout the screening, thank you very much!

So, although, true on the whole, those famous (polemic) 'visuals' that Rog wanted to augment his songs with, are reasonably well shown (again no spoilers for those who didn't see the original gigs, but the hooded 'ISIS' reference prisoners came, er, 'off' well): but by which through the sitting in an NON-impassioned cinema audience does then tend to give far more time to consider Rog's well known polemics through showing refugees and the oppressed, along to such audience 'singalong', means now comes across as possibly, if not outright, incongruously offensive, as the happy singalong accompanies being shown on the huge screen references to e.g. military eye-in-the-sky death from above footage, and (if not, is actually of?) the notorious tragically shore stranded dead child the media recently whipped up for outrage. (But really "is this not we expected to see ...", yes, I know, Rog.) :N.B. DVD 2020 resissue update: likewise now appears to be 'absent' ... curiouser and curiouser!:

Nevertheless, still, indubitably, a most superb souvenir of the sounds (be aware / warned; on this theme of Rog polemics outrage, he does insert some of his own solo career compositions, but of which, 'Picture That' fits the bills seamlessly.)

N.B. Ending oddity, coda: 'what's all this?', incongruous letdown! There is a short coda offered; 'A Fleeting Glimpse', a sort of (very) brief 'backstage / making of': which Rog considers this so important, there's an exhortation right at the beginning of the main show = i.e. when in the CINEMA (this is now in the DVD extras) presentation that you should remain seated at the end, to catch (don't leave during the credits as most usually / would / might otherwise do): BUT: in its short duration, this struck me as odd because:

1) it merely seems to cement the idea that Rog is an old guy almost out of touch, curmudgeon, that latter as of his (otherwise unfair?) reputation,

2) more importantly, unkindly teasingly, it features rehearsals for not only one of Floyd's most recognisable songs, BUT is one that is most associated with his erstwhile, now estranged, still (apparently) equally grumpy over Floyd matters, bandmate David (not Dave!) Gilmour's guitar solo in it (yep, 'Comfortably Numb' from Rog's baby, 'The Wall'): BUT, IT IS NOT PLAYED IN THE FILM - so the cinema audience now not only gets NOT to hear this classic but only mere tantalising snippets of his version of it, but it's almost like a 'F. you' to it, too, in that Rog sends us off with: 'Here, hear this? Well you're not gonna hear it in full ...' usual misery approach to his erstwhile loyal Floyd fan followers (these audiences are 'new': although in the cinema I saw it in, before me flowed out a sea of grey barnets!) And this is not beyond my own older guy grumpiness suspicion: throughout those aforementioned interminable close ups of Rog, he is frequently shown giving the (U.S. worst insult!) finger ... in the direction of his audience! (Yes, of course, I know, it's indicative of towards those pilloried in the songs, yes ..., I know ... but, so many times in close up towards us Rog (Sean)?); :N.B. DVD 2020 issue update: its' now there in full in the extras.:

and finally 3) this then means that ten minutes after the exhilarating happy sing-song show has played out, the cinema lights THIS audience is in go up to leave, you are leaving with a sort of deflated feel .. (any 'space cadet glow' fully dissipated by his coda.) Again, well now, is that Rog's intention? (Ya didn't buy a (vastly costly 'ohh, by the way') ticket to the show, so F ....)

Still, thanks Rog: for preserving this for those that never saw it, even more so for those that did. (= TEN stars for the songs: just over half (6) for the whole shebang)

* not by clouds (!) but by Rog's unkempt visage YET again, since, really, come on - KNOWING (having (co!) directed it!) you're gonna be the close up focus of a film, for an artist of such stature AND wealth ('Money'!) is it really so de rigueur to appear sooooo unkempt, rather than can't afford to get some semblance of haircut grooming? Or is it the standard for aging blokes, couldn't care less? (Yet he wears shape flattering black, which the coda extra shows, well ... there is some vanity there - well, perhaps, for surely, 'hah, hah' Rog, you would never be any charade to us fans, huh?)

Music: Yes please. Politics: Leave at home Roger
graham375522 October 2020
As a life long Floyd fan, loved the music as always will but do not want to go to live gigs to have political propoganda rammed down my throat. Saw Roger at Hyde Park in 2018 and was the same - constant anti-Trump rhetoric (am no Trump fan by the way), subversive anti-west propoganda, Palestine promoting etc, was just too much. We get your views and beliefs Roger and we know it is pretty bog standard to be a leftie if you are in the entertainment industry, but just play the music otherwise you are going to alienate a lot of people. Never would have thought I would ever say this but not sure if I would see him again if I knew he was going to do the same. At Hyde Park by the end I had become Uncomfortably Numb!

Where is "Comfortably Numb" on TV version?
hamedazad26 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This was an amazing experience for me. I was in tears most of the time since I am a hardcore Pink Floyd lover. I still think that the worst decision ever made was Roger leaving the band. If only he was present in PULSE, or if David was present here...

Anyway, I was shocked when the TV version ended at 119 minutes with no comfortably numb. I mean I loved every single one of the songs, but a Pink Floyd/Roger Waters concert with no comfortably numb is like a Mac with no Coca Cola. You still enjoy it, but you are far from being satisfied. But I am not letting this BIG let down cloud my judgment. This is clearly a 10/10.

A bit more about the concert. Dogs and Pigs were phenomenal. Roger pulled the Dogs even better than the way he did in "In the Flesh" concert back in 2000. Pigs was exceptionally decorated with Trump trashing pictures. However, I think it was a bit overdoing it.

Another thing to mention, Another Brick In the Wall - Part 3. It was absolutely amazing. I never heard this song in any concert other than The Wall concerts. But The trio of The Happiest Days of our Lives, Another Brick In the Wall Part 2, and Part 3 was really great.

The Dark Side of The Moon was very cleverly selected. Obviously Us and Them is always a choice, and it cannot be more relevant in any other concert. I think it would have been better if they omitted The Great Gig In The Sky and added Any Color You Like. The vocals in The Great Gig did not do justice to the original song. They were capable, but were far from many other before. Just look how great this song was performed in PULSE.

Next, Wish You Were Here. The album as a whole and the song itself. God, I can't think of any other song this simple both in lyrics and music capable of making such joy. I am glad that Roger decided to do the original version that David hums. This version is more rich and lengthier. Welcome to the Machine was clever. Yet, I think Shine on You Crazy Diamond is the second biggest loss (at least on the TV version. I don't know about the other versions).

So many things to say about this movie, and so little time. If you are a Pink Floyd fan, don't miss it for the world. If you are not, you can still watch and may even enjoy it. It is entertaining to say the least.

A message...there is only us, no them!
andrew-malyn2 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
From the opening "Breathe, breathe in the air...." Right through to lunatic, Roger Waters delivered an absolutely amazing show. The band was fantastic, the crowd was fantastic and at 76 years young, Roger was amazing. The story delivers an epic tail culminating in Us + Them and Roger explaining there is only US!

True to the originals and beautifully visualised
toncha-2880528 March 2021
This was magnificent, period. Many of my current favourites isn't part of this concert, but hey, my Pink Floyd favourites has shifted through my life, so this was more of a collection of a lot of my previous favourites. I had the pleasure of seeing the other part of Pink Floyd live in Nice in the 90s, but possibly this was a even greater performance. I've always been a Gilmour fan, but the composing genius of Waters is without question the biggest reason for their formidable success. And most of Waters' lyrics has a sharp message. So, to all of you who think this was too politically biased, have you ever actually read the lyrics? Waters has always been on the left side in politics, with stark criticism of the establishment/system, of greed, of war mongering and everything else he finds wrong in this world. You could start by reading the lyrics on Animals - a little hint, it's not about animals at a farm.

So it's just plainly ignorant to give this concert a low rating just because you don't like his message. That is his privilege to do and what you should expect from him. Agreeing or not.

I WENT FOR THE MUSIC
robynjakubiec7 October 2019
Not a Trump lover or hater. I went for the show and was not disappointed. Could have scaled down the political pinpointing for sure. I'm old enough to know we can't blame the world's problems on one president of the US. But the music and the visuals were extraordinary. Roger Waters is genius. Just ignore the political posturing.

Strong warning: very subversive
bernard_danino6 October 2020
Well, what can I say... let's go over the pros quickly. Technically the BD is irreproachable. The picture quality is pristine, not 4k HDR but still. The animations are great "technically". The soundtrack is wonderous, I mean a concert in Atmos is so rare, and the mix is top notch. That's it for the pros. Now let's get to the content. Oh boy, everybody knows what a MF and a SB Roger is. This has been covered by and large for many generations. It is funny to see him shout at his sheepish audience "we don't need no thought control" when all he does is brainwashing them with blatant subversive messages, again and again. I would warn my kids very strongly and prepare them thoroughly before I'd let them attend such a show. That's like a training camp for Antifa. The whole show reeks of the most brainless leftism there is. You can't even concentrate on the music for 2 minutes without being bombarded by subliminal messages or more obvious ones. This guy just instill hatred and reverts all common values upside down, and everybody's cheering. My god this is not very promising for the coming generations.......

Save your money
happerrascal3 October 2019
Awful. Can't really describe how bad this was. I love Pink Floyd. I unfortunately haven't had the pleasure of seeing a live Floyd concert. I have seen knock off bands that I appreciated. Had I seen all of this at a concert it would be a different story. All this "movie" is, is some concert footage and a bunch of Trump Hate Rhetoric. If it had come out in the 70's the visual effects might be impressive. In today's world it was seriously something I couldn't wait to get out of. I went with two stars because some of the footage of a few of the classics was nostalgic. Save some money and go to a movie. This was a waste of my time, for sure not worth the $$$.

Except for the pigs...!!
eyeintrees26 June 2020
This would have been a 10 rating. But... I think Pink Floyd were sensational and visionary. This show was a great watch except for the huge lack of responsibility to one of the most maligned animals on earth. I found this lacking in forethought and horrifically thoughtless, and it ruined the entire thing for me. We abominate these innocent animals and then without thought, talking of equality for 'all'...the rot set in here. If this was the best they could come up with as an analogy for elites and autocracy then so sorry, simply horribly done and not good enough. I was incredibly disappointed. Music is great. I would have preferred to also see some 'reality' added to this message of 'equality' with perhaps the girls who are singing being of another ethnicity, ones with those really amazing, huge voices like the original DSotM had, you'll know the bit. Entertaining, too overtly political, which I found a turn off and therefore had me wondering about the message bringers, the message, why, who and what for. Otherwise, if you don't care about anything but the music, you'll love it.
