Didn't want to like it but I couldn't help but enjoy this!. Never liked the aesthetic of the stringy hair like the original toy ponies had. Prefer 2D over 3D animation. Loved My Lil Pony; Friendship is Magic. Saw this as a burial for the Mane 6 characters. I had about as much interest in this as I did Beast Wars, compared to Transformers generation 1. Actually liked this movie more the the MLP FIM movie - which wasn't great. Never going to forget AJ, Rainbow, Pinkie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Twilight! I think they should've appeared through a portal at the end of the movie to say hello.

Yes. I love it.
The story line is interesting the humour is fun and funny, the songs are toe tappingly.good and don't overstay their welcome.
The characters are fantastic and actually believable... Considering they're talking ponies...
I love it.
I love that it paid homage to FIM and didn't ignore it.
If this is a sign of what's to come, bring it on, I'll welcome it.

Actually liked it. Wasn't really blown away but liked it's vibe. Some good jokes, and funny off references. Overall story was maybe a little simple and not totally polished, but I wouldn't call it bad. Also the show didn't shy away from showing some deeper topics, so I can certainly respect that. So overall a enjoyable experience and I'll probably be checking out the upcoming series.
7/10: pretty good.

Thoroughly enjoyable addition to the franchise with new characters and a new look.
Its narrative of ethnic tensions and prejudice is not only on brand, it provides an agreeable message that I dare say is still somewhat relevant in a way that's not as sanctimonious or pandering as things usually are lately.
The characters are delightful even if they are familiar types. I did notice that the protagonist undergoes very little character development and somewhat like a Miyazaki protagonist basically gets to enjoy and adventure of being proven right.
But it's still a vibrant and engaging story that doesn't really feel fresh enough to be a theatrical release but it enjoyable for any fan of the franchise even if they haven't seen the whole of the FiM era yet.

Great start for a new generation!

Before the review I want to say, please don't compare it to G4. This a movie, not a series. I know alot of veterans out there are going to pander this film for the style and characters. I know G4 was amazing, but we gotta move on and try new things.
Now for the review.
TLDR: Its very well made, I give my support for this generation! Of course the story is not the greatest, the songs were alright I was moving to beat in all of them. Characters do there part and together make a great development throughout the film.
Story: It a predictable story and will get you thinking ahead of the film. Its very short on some scenes and will feel very rush. The ending is the shortest of all the scenes. Pacing is really a big issue.
Characters: When together it really shines and shows the potential! When alone, it all one note. For likeable, the Pegasus is who I found likeable! The others not so much, the sheriff was the bottom of the group.
Sound: Well done on audio! The soundtrack was good and the sfx were done right, no question when watching.
Overall: Give a watch! It doesn't hurt to try, G4 will always be here if you don't like it! Last thing, please spread love and kindness to people who like this film! Bring friendship not discord!

- i know the whole fandom will miss g4, like i grew up with, but you can't just log in to spread hate. As from my experience. The movie, the song was totally spectacular. Of course, it's below mlp g4, no matter what. But you can move on, but not forget your favourite show].

Pony friendship

I saw and enjoyed the My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic series and My little Pony The Movie that came off the series. So hearing a new My Little Pony movie got me intrigued.
I found My Little Pony: A New Generation just as enjoyable as My Little Pony The Movie, which I am glad to say.
I liked the characters, the songs were pretty nice and the new 3D animation was bright, colorful and pretty. I even liked the voice cast playing the Earth Ponies, Unicorns and the pegasus characters.
It was funny and and I thought it was fun watching just like My Little Pony The Movie, so I can say I recommend watching this to have a fun time.

A continuation of the My Little Pony series, this is more modern and filled with great music
rannynm25 September 2021
My Little Pony: A New Generation is a continuation of the My Little Pony series. It will remind you of the original, but it's more modern. It is very entertaining and interesting. If you have watched the My Little Pony series before, you will enjoy this.
The storyline follows Sunny (Vanessa Hudgens) who is an Earth pony and she meets a unicorn named Izzy (Kimiko Glenn). Unicorns, Earth ponies and Pegasi aren't friends anymore and it is unlikely to see them together. Sunny and Izzy realize that all the ponies don't have any magic and they need to find out why. They travel all through Equestria to find out how to get magic back for everyone.
The songs in this film are very catchy and creative. My favorite song is "Glowin' Up'' performed by Sofia Carson, because it is upbeat, sets the mood and is a good song all around. The storyline is fun and shows us how the times are much more different than it was with the original ponies. My favorite character is Sunny, because she doesn't believe what others want her to believe and she never gives up. She grew up with people always telling her that the other ponies were bad, but she knows how to see the good in them, so she thinks differently. Also, when times get tough Sunny never gives up.
The message of My Little Pony: A New Generation is friendship is magic. If you have been a My Little Pony fan since earlier shows, this message will pop right into your head. This is a great film to watch with the family. Is an awesome film to watch.
I rate My Little Pony: A New Generation 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 6 to 11. You can watch this film on Netflix starting September 24, 2021. Be sure to check it out!

Missing the magic
brookenichole-9805425 September 2021
My Little Pony: A New Generation is not good. It's missing that magic from older versions that I've enjoyed over the years. A lot of the songs were annoying and mediocre. The characters weren't flushed out enough to the point you forget their even there at all. Not to mention this movie dragged. I felt like I was watching a two hour movie.
There were things I liked: The voice acting was perfect! Along with the comedy from James Marsden and Kimiko Glenn. There was even one good song by Sofia Carson that I enjoyed. I even loved the animation! It was absolutely stunning!
A movie that didn't need to happen, but I'm sure kids will enjoy.

I tried to like this movie, but my age induced cynicism combined with the increasing feeling of watching a product just stopped any chance of such happening. It keeps going on about how good the past is while forgetting to do or say anything of substance or importance of it's own beside surface level callback for brownie points, wich gives off the impression the creators know the material but doesn't care for it. On the other side it's political massaging might've hold more weight in the 10th century(wich is true of any identity politics honestly) but unfortunately NO MORE! So the massaging comes off more as the corporate executives using jedi mind tricks on the audience saying:-"SEE HOW PROGRESSIVE,UNDERSTANDING AND POLITICALLY CORRECT WE ARE? GIVE US YOU'RE MONEY"! And I'm saddened on that This, is what the entertainment industry become-:a factory where corporate ghouls push out disposable content based on focus group testing and statistics rather than passionate artists and the people working together to make something enjoyable and memorable that makes you:laugh, cry fear, mad(in a good way),learn, feel suspense maybe learn a thing or two anything in between, but it seems like the further we go the more we devolve and it seems like"a long time ago in a galaxy fare fare away, Search you're feelings, for you know it to be True"!
The Blues Brothers 2 of MLP:FIM
scribblenautsfanatic10 February 2022
This movie's existence renders everything that occurred in MLP: FIM completely moot. And for what? A bland, insipid movie full of bland, forgettable characters, with a bland, no-stakes-having story with the most bland pathetic, non-threatening villain i've ever seen.
New Gen for Old Gen and newcomers
RaymanHortse24 September 2021
We needed gliter, lots of gliter. The first trailers just gave a quick look to them and what it was about and now that we have it... it's all right!
After FIM it was hard to give a new world with new characters, but we're still i the same Equestria as before, but with a tiny twist. Tha plot is simple for younger viewers and has enough references for those that came from G4. The animation qualiy is huge, details like grass, clouds and manes is specially good in all creatures. Musica numbers are another good thing here and a huge evolution from G4, variety of instruments are played between every song and the characters singing voices fit well, giving good vibes; this alongside the voice cast, they do a great job specially for Izzy, Pipp and many other characters so you understand their personalities and attitudes.
Everything good has something not so good, and this time is the predictive plot, is not really that bad but you can see how it will develop; basil MLP stuff that is not awfull to destroy the movie but it's there. There are also a few misteries that aren't solved through the story, but i guess if they do a show after this it may be solved; i don't know if that would happen.
This movie fits right in for the old G4 fans and this will or may grew another Brony Gen that will create tons of content with our new characters; totally recomended.

James Marsden and Ken Jeong
Zacharine797-228-1004027 April 2023
They took something amazing and trashed it. James Marsden and Ken Jeong are literally the only reason to watch this show. I was very excited when they made a new one, because the most previously made one was actually absolutely flawless for my little pony cartoon, but this one involved ponies obsessed with fighting, repressing each other, silencing each other, and being on their phones, and though the idea was to escape all of that, it never actually went away and was really weird. It was a completely different world which I understand was meant to be a different time, but it pales in comparison to its predecessor it had a few fun references, but nowhere near as amazing as the previous show. And I was really excited to see the cast, but , it just seems like it's trying way too hard to push some sort of political agenda at the same time. This is the first cartoon that I've actually seen a character obsessed with screens which made my daughter want to have a fun and have more screen not something I liked.
It's The Force Awakens Of MLP

This is just another attempt to make MLP a cash grab for Hasbro.
This could've been any movie, not a MLP movie. Unlike the 2017 movie, this has nothing new to offer to the table, only to rehash elements from most of the episodes. It's nothing but a political platform about racism, under the MLP name. It didn't feel like a MLP movie, it look like a DreamWorks movie. This made G4 completely pointless, like a lot of franchises these days.
Overall, this is just a mess of a film.

A Disappointingly Mediocre Movie
aka-4531612 November 2021
Before I get down to the many problems this movie has, I'd like to point out that it wasn't without some highlights.
At first, I thought that Izzy was going to be some unicorn version of Pinkie Pie. I was surprised when I found myself charmed by her instead, because while she does remind me of Pinkie she managed to stand as her own pony regardless. A similar scenario happened with Zipp too, in that while she reminded me of Rainbow Dash she proved to be unique and different as a character. Likewise, Sunny and Hitch were the best earth ponies in this entire movie, because they both had lovable personalities that helped them be characters people can root for and give sympathy towards. The character of Pipp was another character I enjoyed, mainly because I love how she grew from a full-of-herself pop icon to a caring and supportive friend. The chemistries shared between the five characters were more enjoyable than I thought they'd be, and every moment featuring them was fun no matter what. The performances of Vanessa Hudgens as Sunny, Kimiko Glenn as Izzy, James Marsden as Hitch, Lisa Koshy as Zipp, and Sofia Carson as Pipp were amazing as well.
I would also like to add that Queen Haven and Alphabittle grew on me as the film progressed thanks to their surprising developments, and Jane Krakowski and Phil LaMarr were excellent in their respective roles.
Plus, I'm happy to say that "Glowin' Up", "Fit Right In", and Johnny Orlando's "It's Alright" are what I consider to be the movie's best songs. Unlike the rest of the songs, they were enjoyable to listen to, and the moments featuring them were fun to watch. The only thing I can't help but wonder regarding "Fit Right In" is why the song couldn't be given a different title, because there's already a song from "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" that has this title.
Aside from these highlights, though...the film as a whole just wasn't as great as people were making it out to be. To put it bluntly, it was atrocious!
The villains of this movie were incredibly generic and one-note.
Sprout in particular was the most annoying character because he was more of a nuisance with the demeanor of a pouty child, and he hardly had ANY sort of character growth despite whatever developments the story brought. Not to mention Ken Jeong was incredibly miscast, and unlike most of his work his performance in this movie lacked personality, charm, and humor.
This wasn't the case with Elizabeth Perkins, but the character of Phyllis was also lackluster because the direction taken with her was extremely poor and confusing. I mean, for a while she was a manipulative CEO of a company who wants others to let their fears control them, but then she changes simply because of how out of control Sprout was being? What's up with that?!
The story as a whole was hardly what I'd call spectacular.
Despite the Easter eggs it contained to reference the previous My Little Pony series, and the involvements of Gillian M. Berrow as co-screenwriter and Meghan McCarthy as an executive producer, the filmmakers didn't do ANYTHING to explain how both this movie and its predecessor were connected. The story opened up so many questions yet never took the time to actually answer them, leaving plot holes in the process.
Like, what caused the pony races to be divided in the first place?
I get that this movie was made to serve as the first installment of a new series, but...much of the problems relating to the story clearly came from how confident the filmmakers must've been about this leading into an all-out franchise and how reliant they were on that prospect. With all the conflicts the story contained being resolved in the end, the questions like the one I mentioned aren't even worth answering in the future.
In addition to this, the story carried too many uncanny similarities with Disney's "Raya and the Last Dragon", which came out before MLP: ANG aired. From the very time I found out what this movie's story was going to be, I had a feeling I was gonna know what would be happening from a mile away. Once I saw the MLP film...it was as predictable as I thought it'd be. It had its emotional and heartwarming moments, yet they were all weighed down by the predictableness of the story. The overall comedy aspect wasn't even as fun to watch as I hoped it'd be, because the gags fell incredibly flat among others. Because of how surprisingly quick the pacing was, the film as a whole was surprisingly underdeveloped.
On the subject of the film's themes and morals, I didn't think they were well-done either. Compared to "Raya and the Last Dragon", the way its messages were executed was reminiscent of a political lecture. It made the whole thing feel like an advocacy for socialism and other certain political ideologies rather than a story about friendship. The reasons behind why the pony races were dividing themselves from each other were also quite over-the-top, and they were hardly what I'd call believable considering they sounded like something cooked up by an amateur playwright.
And as for the animation...well, let's just say this film presented a particular example of why computer-animation isn't always the right style to use.
I get that Hasbro, eOne, and Boulder Media were wanting to use a different animation style, and I admired the fact that they were wanting to stretch themselves creatively. Compared to the film's hand-drawn animated predecessors, though, the visualization of the characters and settings didn't seem as natural as I hoped they would be. The ponies and animals looked like walking-talking stuffed toys, and the world and landscapes appeared to be based off of cheap dollhouse commercials.
The visual style certainly wasn't consistent with G4's either, and that's considering the differences in small details. I frequently noted how different in design the ponies in this movie were to the ponies in G4, from the hoof designs to that of the ponies only having cutie marks on one side of their flank rather than on both. I mean, surely I can't be the only one who took note of this, right?
Along with the film's lackluster story and animation, the prologue featuring the Main Six was absolutely useless, and the reprisals of Tara Strong as Twilight Sparkle, Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity, Ashleigh Ball as Applejack and Rainbow Dash, and Andrea Libman as Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie (who are all major performers and characters from the previous series) were criminally underused. I know it was supposed to represent the imaginations of Sunny, Hitch, and Sprout as they were playing with the Main Six dolls in their childhood, but the problem is that it didn't give any meaningful contribution to the story as a whole. Right before the scene even ended, it suddenly became a savage ridicule of G4, which did not put this film in a positive light afterwards. The hand-drawn animation used for the prologue was good, but it didn't make the scene any better either.
So, want my advice?
If you want to see a movie where the kind of story and themes this movie has is done right, go see "Raya and the Last Dragon"! If you want to see a My Little Pony movie done right, check out the one from 2017! Those movies are WAY better than this hunk of junk.

Its OK at best, it just rings hollow. Not to mention it left with more questions than answers.

So I was never one to like MLP growing up since it was a time that it would have been considered more if not entirely for girls. However A few years back I ended up watching the My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic with my younger siblings and ended up loving everything about it from the characters, the world, the challenges that were faced throughout the series, not to mention the morals and values that the series expressed and much more. To the point the series had become a favorite of mine. All of these things and more made the entirety of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic what it was, and what made it enjoyable.
MLP: A New Generation however lacked for a great deal of things, while the premise of the story could be seen as possible within the MLP universe. The movies gives no context whatsoever to the main issue the movie is centered around from start to finish. So then you're just left confused because all the elements needed to paint a clear picture are just absent with not second thought given. So it gives off the impression that this movie wanted to benefit from everything MLP: Friendship Is Magic built up from the series, movies and specials while missing all of the points that made it great. Honestly this whole movie just felt lazy, from the characters, the plot, essentially everything.
While the movie was OK at best, I cant say that I would recommend it as it just felt hollow and devoid of the love, passion, care and more that was put into MLP Prior.

This plot could be better...

I'm from Russia and I watched this movie at the
theater. Lucky man, you may say... what can I say in this review? I was disappointed! No, I don't guess g4 is the best thing ever and that's why comparing not in favor of a new gen. I'm trying to rate it honestly like an ordinary movie, even not a cartoon. This plot could be better... It looks like writers didn't try well, their ideas were once mixed up and were never untangled afterwards. Yes, it's a cartoon film, for children, but would not be nice to make a more clear and not a crumpling plot? By the way, the beginning was great! Sunny's nature and motivation was presented very great and true! But afterwards many things gone wrong, out of logic, out of meaning... it's a shame to watch it, to comprehend it. One more good thing - computer graphics was truly great. Pony models are soft and literally warm for senses. Backgrounds are amazing. And songs, of course - to hear it is a good entertainment among the general disappointment.
Wonderful family entertainment!
