Sex & Nudity

  • College kids joke about posters they're putting up, saying to "make it look like she wants it".
  • Sexual innuendo regarding the sale of cereal is mentioned by man in an interview.
  • A cereal is mentioned to cure "impotence".
  • Food used in war rations is mentioned to have been distributed for "sexual favors" and pictures shown are slightly seductive in nature.

Violence & Gore

  • Fires break out in multiple episodes and one individual is mentioned to have died in one of them. A building after being burned is seen for at least a second.
  • A violent riot breaks out between workers and farmers with pitchforks and other farm equipment. This is only brief and we see only the beginning of it, a man later mentions that "it's chaos".
  • A man takes a shotgun and shoots himself off-screen due to his failing illness.
  • A shootout between rivals leaves one man dead, he's seen on the ground with another man trying to help him.
  • A man suddenly suffers from a heart attack before collapsing on screen. Moments later, he is mentioned to have died.

Profanity

  • Typically mild profanities like "damn" and "hell". However, harsher words like "shit" are rarely uttered under the breaths of individuals.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A war veteran is mentioned to have a morphine addiction due to injuries he sustained during the Civil War.
  • Cocaine is mentioned and briefly seen in advertisement. It should be noted that it was a different time where narcotics such as cocaine were seen as acceptable.
  • Cigarette smoking is seen quite a bit in many episodes. At one point, cigarettes are mentioned to play a critical role in heating food.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A man's illness is seen effecting him as time goes on until his death. His illness eventually began bad enough that he couldn't eat or walk without a wheelchair.
  • A man commits suicide off-screen after he becomes convinced he's dying.
  • It's mentioned a man got away with murder by claiming it was self-defense.
  • A man dies suddenly of a heart attack and by the time his son hears about it the funeral had already passed.
