This is a joke, right?

Far from being a criticism but I am not finding this 'drama' to be played out at all seriously. The characters are hilarious in their total disregard for any sense of shame. Only half way through but shocked to see it categorised as a drama.

Entertaining.

A portrait of the world we currently live in, represented in soccer, but may apply to any government or corporate relationships. Fun and entertaining.

Could be worst

Very entretaing serie. Shockingly you learn about the millions of dollars the FIFA manage and keep the change. A big problem with the audio will though you off, the music plays in the background louder than the actors speak.

Entertaining, but too fictitius
ajsalinase13 August 2022
The story is interesting and entertaining. It provides some shocking facts about the people involved in this scandal. There are brilliant performances and the comedy works well. However, it's disappointing to note that 90% of the events are fictitious. At some points in the story it makes no sense and is hardly believable.

subtitles
alex11896 June 2020
I cannot help myself, but everybody outside the US, calls it football, but subtitles call it soccer. Even the organisation, like Chilean National Soccer Association, is actually The Football Federation of Chile. I was thinking, why did not rename FIFA to FISA. :D

The best Binge worthy show!
I'm loving every minute of it. Compelling story, dark humor, amazing performances. You don't have to be a soccer fan to fully enjoy the story. The BEST show from Amazon Prime Video so far.

A very dull, bad and not funnny recount of very corrupt deeds in Conmebol/FIFA
apextreme-18 June 2020
After episode 2, I had to force myself to finish this series. That should tell you a lot. As a chilean, I was very excited to see what would they do about the "chilean things" that are very special for the characters, and honestly they did some good things in the art direction (decorations, set production) and the main Sergio Jadue actor, Andrés Parra, does a very commendable job in recreating the real guy's accent, though sometimes his real way of talking comes out and it takes you out of the experience. Also, the very badly done makeup looks incredibly fake on Parra's character; very distracting.

But the top awful acting award goes to the actress that plays Jadues wife, wich is aboslutely unbeareble. Everything is exaggerated, talks uncomfartbly close to other characters and the chilean accent is outstandlingly bad.

The other main character is the FBI girl/storyline, wich is poorly made. It is never explained how she got there. We only have glimpses of her background, but is not enough and badly done. Her language skills, though, are outstanding as the actress speaks english and spanish very well. Her acting, on the other hand, is not good and you never buy the whole FBI thing.

Now, about the story, plot and script. Well, it is ugly bad. I mean, it retells very important recent facts of corruption in its own way, without ever deciding if its telling a true story or a fictional one (only in the latter episodes some things are clarified, but I say this lightly). Some episodes indicate high money numbers, or other kind of numbers, but you cant never know if it is real or not because it is suppusedly a satire and it never quotes anything. It is so very strangely and frustratingly told, it never quite makes sanse and it is barely informative at all.

About the soundtrack. Well, the music sounds like it was bought from a website of royalty free tunes. Awful. And very badly implemented. It never causes emotion or suspense or anything. Absolutely bland.

Now about the editing. Without being terrible, transitions are not very well done, not giving much space to introduce other topics and some bits are left unexplained while passing on to other plot points. It is here that a combination of script and bad editing leaves you wondering what kind of story they were trying to tell. And if it is a funny one I never ever laughed.

There are also some quality control errors, like a scene where Jadue is shown writing on his cellphones that Chile passes on to quarter finals in the 2014 WC. Thats wrong, Chile went on to play Brasil in its home territory but never in quarter finals. It was in the last 16s.

All in all, don't waste your time in this series. Wait for a proper doccumentary.

I don't even like football and this is GOLD
engwaerin3 July 2020
I'm a girl and I don't care about FIFA or football, but this series is EPIC. The actors have done a brilliant, wonderful job. Best acting I've seen a long time. I liked it so much, that I will rewatch the whole series after one week of finishing it. I watched it in original language and it was music to my ears. Never boring, excellent series. The fact, that it all happened, is an extra point as well. Marvellous. Just marvellous.

Far below my expectations
gonbazan23 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
El Presidente shows us how corrupted is football asociations around the world, not only CONMEBOL. That's something that everybody who loves football knows (including myself) and El Presidente put it on real numbers but with a small comedic atmosphere.

So far I have no complaints.

But... and it's a big BUT... I was expecting a lot more. I have the feeling that some aspects neededed to be polished. From the Jadue's bald hair to the Harris wig.

Some episodes feels like empty and that's including the last episode. The first half hour it's completely pointless and slow.

And something I can't stand in an Amazon TV show: Unless you were Wagner Moura in Narcos, why in the earth they couldn't search for a cast that natively speaks the language of the character that they perform? There are argentinian actors playing brazilian and american roles, chilean actors playing uruguayan roles, mexican actors playing chilean roles and so. I really don't understand why they didn't search for a native cast depending of the character.

The ending shows us that a 2nd season is coming and it's going to be about João Havelange. So I hope that in the next season they could make the TV show that is up to the task of what we were expecting of the first one.

RECOMMANDED
hakra114 December 2022
First of all: GRANDE ANDRES PARRA!!! Incredible his acting and how he not just acted but became Sergio Jadue! Watch the original videos and interviews with the chilean ex-president on youtube and there is no difference! Sure there are some little plotholes with the FBI-female but all in all its still a great watch and a must for football fans.

Also the second season thats about the beginnings of the FIFA and the life of Joao Havelange is very entertaining, interesting and well done. And there are a lot of hidden messages, that were told, some funny metaphers and all in all a great watch. Albano Jeronimo does a perfect job and its really enjoyable, letting the hopes for a season number 3, maybe about the bettings, VAR or so money other things behind the curtain of one of the most corrupt companies of the world.

ONCE AGAIN APPALLING DUBBING
hableconella-366404 April 2023
Why does this otherwise excellent drama about the long standing corruption in FIFA based on the experience of one Latin American FIFA member need dubbing and to make it even worse English subtitles that don't bear a close enough relationship to the dubbed script.

We all know that the history of the most popular game in the world - from the cobbled streets of Caracas and the exceptionally clean streets of Vienna, to the barrios and nooks and crannies of Cadiz in Andalucía Southern Spain, the barrios of Santa Cruz in Sevilla and all the way to Napoli, Potenza Bari & Lecce, is about big money and crooked noses.

Even in the streets of Palermo, Catania & Ragusa in the face of anti Mafia posters a football is always being kicked.

Dubbing is awful for whatever subject fiction or non fiction is makes the actors look fools.
