"Luger" is a new British live action short film released less than half a year ago and this one was written and directed by the two Freds Waters and Syborn. The director is not too prolific, but has worked with lead actor Jack Whitehall on other projects already. The writer has worked on many more projects in the past already, also high-profile award shows. It runs for slightly over 10 minutes and is basically the story of a man meeting the two women who work as carers for his dad. The latter is not really a part of this movie although there is a lot of talk about him. He is only shown briefly at the very end in a fairly telling sequence. Now this film feels very English I must say, not only because of the accents, but also because of the approach at comedy and it is all about comedy really, fairly dark at times. So actually the way I like it, yet this one here did not do too much for me. It gets worse in the second five minutes I would say. Early on it is better still and more relatable and believable, but when the action out of nowhere moves away from a harmless little prank at the kitchen to a firearm, they're not really managing the transition. Still the actors did a good job overall and you can see they are fairly experienced and have worked on many other projects before all three of them. It was also slightly fun how different the two women were, not just physically, but also in terms of their general approach to life and work and also their take on humor. Still sometimes, it felt a bit over the top, but again this was rather the fault of the script than the fault of the actresses. Whitehall isn't too bad either, although at times he just feels like an observer and in our spot than really a driving force in this film. So well two Freddies working on this one, two actors with White in the name, quite a coincidence. Anyway, as for the ending I was not too fond of the sudden break in terms of location and how the action moved outside for a few seconds. The editing in-between was also not too good. Overall, it is not a failure, but also not good enough for a positive recommendation. As this still has not reached five votes here on imdb, it seems as if not too many consider seeing it and honestly they are not missing much this way. Go for something else instead.
