- When a college heartthrob is accused of rape by a less popular student, his girlfriend navigates various versions of the story in search of the truth.
- Nanki Dutta (Kiara Advani) is a songwriter for her boyfriend, Vijay "VJ" Pratap Singh's (Gurfateh Pirzada) band. Nanki and VJ study at the prestigious St. Martin's college. The other band members are Tashi (Tenzin Dalha) and KP (Chayan Chopra). Hardy (Ashish Khanna) is VJ's friend.
She finds herself in a dilemma when Tanu Kumar (Akansha Ranjan Kapoor), a new student in her university who has a crush on VJ, joins in the #MeToo movement accusing him of having sexually assaulted her on the night of Valentine's 2018 on Twitter. That night was also a college concert. Tanu had been throwing herself on VJ all night. She was also heavily drunk. After the concert finished, Tanu, VJ and 2 friends (Rajat Khosla and Tarun Khanna) went back to the hostel by the back door. Although 1 witness said that there were 5 people who went back to VJ's room and not 4. Tanu vanished after that night and only resurfaced at the time of the #MeToo movement.
Nanki attempts to help Vijay by consulting Danish Ali Baig (Taher Shabbir), the lawyer investigating VJ's side of the story. Mirchandani (Dalip Tahil) is Danish's boss and family friends with VJ's parents. Tashi believes that VJ is innocent, and Tanu is taking advantage of the #MeToo movement. The coolest girl in college was already his girlfriend. Tanu, according to Tashi, had been "around" the campus.
That night Tarun and Rajat were in the room with VJ and Tanu. Rajat says that he and Tarun left when Tanu and VJ started getting it on. Tarun says that it was consensual between Tanu and VJ. VJ's family (Father Pratap Singh (Manu Rishi) & mother Sushma (Niki Aneja Walia)) says that Tanu is a gold digger. VJ is privileged as his dad is a politician, so many people assume that he is at fault. Nanki tells Danish that Tanu manipulated her lack of privilege from the very beginning. She would play the victim card when asked to follow the rules and would claim that her hostel peers are isolating her as she is a scholarship student from Dhanbad and because of her lower economic status.
Nanki had no idea that VJ's parents had paid for his admission into St Martin's. Nanki maintains that Tanu manipulated VJ, but Danish counters that VJ allowed himself to be manipulated. Nanki tells Danish that on Valentine's night VJ came to her later that night, and admitted that he cheated on Nanki, with Tanu.
Tanu moves back into the hostel a week after her allegations against VJ. Nanki slaps Tanu and gets suspended herself by college Principal Dr Roy (Kunal Vijaykar). Hardy tells Danish that he saw Nanki going towards the boy's hostel at 1 30 AM on Valentine's night. Turns out Nanki was working on her thesis with a faculty member, who was also going to write a recommendation for her application to Rhodes. When Nanki was returning from the faculty residences, she saw KP in the concert area, vomiting. She assumes that KP was puking as he was drunk. When VJ confronts Nanki about spending time with a faculty at 1:30 AM, Nanki turns back and says that she knows that VJ used a pull to get into St. Martin's.
Nanki tries to get Danish fired by sending Sushma to talk to Mirchandani, claiming that Danish is trying to frame VJ. Danish handles Sushma by saying that he is only trying to arm Mirchandani will all the facts. He then shows Nanki another testimony in which KP claims that he saw Tanu hobbling late on Valentine's night (like after sexual assault), and that Tanu ran into Nanki when she was coming back to the girl's hostel. But Nanki never told Danish that she ran into Tanu that night. Nanki has a panic attack and runs away.
Throughout the movie, we experience Nanki's frequent panic attacks and hallucinations based on the recent incident. Tanu's hands and thighs had blood on it and Nanki pushed her away. VJ insists to Danish that sex with Tanu was consensual. He says that Tanu coming to his room, was her idea.
Danish finds that the morning after, on 15th Feb, Tanu had filed a complaint with the police, but the police never registered the case. There was no medical test done. Nanki finds from another faculty member Promila, that Tanu came to her that night at 2:30 AM and said that she had been raped by VJ and wanted her help to file a police complaint. Promila took her to the dean and Dr Roy, and they called in Pratap and Sushma to try and dissuade Tanu. Tanu was adamant that she had to file a complaint.
Tanu has still not filed a formal rape case against VJ and Mirchandani says that maybe Tanu wants an out of court settlement. Danish goes for a settlement meeting and finds that Tanu was already paid to suppress the police complaint. Her case is over as now her actions look like blackmail.
Nanki is suspicious about the blood and breaks into VJ's hostel room and finds blood traces on his mattress. Nanki is shocked and destroys the mattress. Pratap files an extortion case against Tanu. Danish wins the case and Vijay is released much to Tanu's dismay. Tanu is asked by the court to pay Rs 5 Lakhs to VJ. Danish finds that Pratap hired Tanu's lawyer to fight a bigger case for him, which is why Tanu's lawyer never contested the extortion charge. Proof of payment to Tanu was a clear admission of guilt. Danish resigns. VJ tells Nanki that he has cheated on her by sleeping with Tanu but did not assault her.
However, Nanki remains suspicious due to inconsistencies with the case. During a festival held at the campus, Tanu explains every detail of what happened during the fateful night while exposing her true intentions and feeling towards Vijay.
Nanki deduces Tanu's #MeToo tweet and ties every loose end cited throughout and comes to the realization that Tanu told the truth all along that Vijay is actually a demon and raped Tanu when his ego got hurt. VJ wanted to have sex with Tanu in front of his friends and she slapped him. Nanki realizes that KP saw the rape taking place (he was the 5th person in the room that nobody spoke about) and puked at the concert area right after. That's when Tanu came out of VJ's room, walked towards the concert area and ran into Nanki.
Vijay's crime gets reported by Nanki and is arrested by the local authorities. KP testifies against VJ. Soon after, Nanki gains the courage to share her own experience with sexual abuse, when she was 13 years old, encouraged by a relieved Tanu. Nanki says that when she was sexually violated, she told Dr Roy, who was also her local guardian. Roy told Nanki that she had a sexual vibe. And that men cannot control themselves and that women need to behave accordingly. Nanki reveals this incident to the entire college.
