Warning: Spoilers
All Lex's plans come to fruition, seen in a well done opening which jumps back and forth without getting confusing, and allows for a great moment of vanity from Lex himself.

And then it's up to others to stop him. Will they, or his own obsessions, be the ones who do it?

A cracking good season finale, which moves at great pace, packs a lot of great character stuff and action in, and does manage not to look as if it's run out of budget. There's some great scenes with all the Luthors together, Brainy and Lockwood Jr and Alex and Kelly all make choices, as does red daughter, and a brilliant sting in the tale as Lex gives Lena things to think about.

Alex and Kelly do have a nice chemistry, and so nice to have movement with Alex's personal life given how little attention it's had till late this season.

Ben Lockwood didn't quite do what I would have expected him to, but that's the only minor quibble.

There's a lot set up in the final few scenes which promise some interesting storylines for next season also.

Ignore the haters. It's a great watch.

Where do we go from here?

Is this the season or series finale? Without revealing the plot I hope that this is not the end of the series. Will there be room for Supergirl and Batwoman on the same WC Fall Sunday night schedule? A small cliffhanger here as the nemesis of the green Martian appears (at the very last second) out of nowhere. I sure hope that this nasty villain "zaps" Lex Luthor back-to-life. Like Kriptonite, he is a necessary evil in the Superman and Supergirl legend(s). Time (or Nielsen ratings) will tell. There is much I dislike in the current storyline of Supergirl. Trans-sexual and (horrors) bi-sexual (or as I call it, try-anything sexual) does not belong here. Brainiac should be green with a large alien forehead (as he "really appears" uncloaked. He is not human yet has fallen in love with the alien superhero Dreamer?

Marvel rip off episode

Love supergirl. But is it me or did anyone else notice that lex's suit is pretty much the same as iron-man and jimmy's eye patch is like nick Fury.

Yes!!! Great!

Not many shows explore current issues but that is what comic book heroes are all about. Comic books push all story lines to explore human nature. I love this and adding the Luthors is the best part of the show. DC has always excelled with villains. This was my favorite season , i really want to explore Kara's rage that she had in season one and two. Can't wait for next season!

Unoriginal headline

Warning: Spoilers
Maybe I am spoiled by old shows, but the action and combat on this show are just so lackluster. I do enjoy watching Alex's fight scenes, but the rest are disappointing. I think part of that is the constant switching of camera angles. I don't know the technicalities of shooting a scene, but why does the angle change so often? It constantly interrupts the flow of the fight. It also makes me think that the actors cannot be bothered to properly train to show how mighty they are on screen.

As for the story, this season has been really uneven concerning the attention on certain characters, and I just have trouble caring about them because of it. Red daughters' story arc for example, her life and death could have been profound, but instead I thought 'oh'. Or was that the intention? Either way, I really hope cast and crew step up their game for next season.

I am interested to see how the storyline between Kara and Lena pans out. I can only hope that the writers don't betray Lena's character by making her evil due to this revelation.

Oh and I definitely always enjoy Brenda Strong's presence on the show. Just thought I would end on a positive note. :)

A disappointing end to the best season of Supergirl
RahulM00720 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
To be honest I tried to enjoy this episode, but could not. It was so lacklustre and boring and does not get me excited for season 5. The only part of the episode that intrigued me was the Crisis on Infinite Earths teaser.

The episode titled the Quest for Peace ended the main arc of the season. It concluded Lex Luthor's storyline in a disappointing and anticlimactic way. The final fight scene between Supergirl and Lex Luthor was utterly terrible and the worst choreographed fighting sequence of the show. It came to no surprise that Lex Luthor met his demise in this episode. But apparently, he will return during Crisis on Infinite Earths. The Monitor probably resurrected him.

This episode set up a possible season 5 main villain group called Leviathan. Eve Teschmacher is a member of Leviathan and was forced to work alongside Lex Luthor. This came to a surprise to me because I thought she genuinely cared for Lex.

The side story arc of the season focusing on Supergirl and the government was pointless and did not really matter. It was anyway resolved this episode and did not quite pay off. Alex should not have gotten her mind wiped because she anyway got her memories back in the penultimate episode. The only reason why the writers and producers introduced this storyline was to add more drama to the show.

The Crisis on Infinite Earths Teaser was the best part of the episode. The Monitor showed up and released the Martian Manhunter's brother. I do not know what the Monitor will gain from this. The other scene showed the Monitor resurrecting Lex Luthor and persuading him to join the fight that is looming.

To conclude, this episode is almost unwatchable and quite forgettable. This season in general has been quite forgettable for me. Compared to season 2 and 3, this season is a colossal disappointment. Hopefully season 5 does not disappoint!

A disappointing finale
madmada22 May 2019
Most characters story lines/ arcs led to nowhere and the season ended with probably the worst fight scenes in the series so far, which actually didn't serve any purpose. All in all, the story didn't progress 1 bit.

Dull climax.
cruise0115 October 2019
2.5 out of 5 stars.

The season finale of Supergirl tries to do a little too much with its story without any proper development on the script. The action is decent with Supergirl and Lex fighting. It can be cheesy. The visuals are cheap. The script and direction is rushed. I never found Jon Cryer to be good at playing Lex. It is just terrible. The ending of this episode does set up for the next season with close friends foreshadowing to be enemies. Some friendships stay stronger.

Overall, Supergirl season 4 I will rate it 2.5 out of 5 stars. The season had some political strong themes with its story. The villain is forgettable. Lex Luthor is terribly played by Jon Cryer. The cast ensemble is decent and fun. With some new additions in the mix. The story was all over the place and incoherent with its tone.

Bad beyond the telling
dhenderson-923 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this show an hour ago and already it's hard to recall what happened. Because it was stupid.

Last episode we unlearned basic botany. This episode we get to unlearn basic storytelling. So much is contrived and shaped to fit the show the writers/producers want to show, that logical common sense doesn't fit. We seem to be in a world where wishes and hopes are enough to make everything work out. It's like we're all six again.

Lex betrays Kaznia to the tune of "My Way". Don't get me wrong, Sinatra's a classic and generally adds value to any production his crooning graces, but this seems more like something the writers and producers have been using as their anthem throughout this entire season. It doesn't work.

So they follow that up with "Kick Start My Heart" during a fight scene. Not the Crüe's best, but it really didn't fit in this lame battle. While actual super powered beings are fighting, Alex is battling with her magic batons effectively - thus, "magic". Forget that these beings can toss trucks about or do any manner of things to her without actually needing to physically touch her. She just keeps going with those batons and they just keep getting beat by them. So clever.

Since the intense vacuum of intellect that is this show is now in full force, why stop there. Supergirl is beaten once more by Luthor, until Red Daughter some how hones in on her exact whereabouts and saves her. Forget that we've watched entire shows devoted to finding people, Red Daughter did it in microseconds. Talk about a super! Wishes and hopes.

For some inane reason, when Red Daughter dies, she's reabsorbed into Supergirl. Again, hopes and wishes win against logic, science and common sense. So now Supergirl is super super powerful so she's able to best Lex. But in her effort to save him, he drops to the island. I guess Supergirl forgot that she's superfast and could have beaten him to the ground to actually save him. But that sort of logic, reason and accountability from her would have messed with the ultimate contrived plot. Either more wishes and hopes or they've decided she's just not that smart.

The place where Lex falls after a chaotic sky battle, just happens to be close enough to a group of people/aliens for them not to be harmed, but still pull together and applaud, bringing this adventure show into a full-fledged camp comedy.

The less said about Brainiac's struggle that led to his departure as Brainy's personality the better. Let's simply leave it as more wishes and hopes.

Lena's cold-blooded fratricide of Lex finally shows us who she really is - a Luthor. And apparently a sick one at that since at least a day after his murder, Lex is shown to be in the same place. She didn't even have the decency to bury him. After murdering him, all she can think about is how her best friend betrayed her by keeping a secret. Logic and reason go whistling by in this little train of wishes and hopes.

The finale winds down with America once more invaded by illegal aliens. This doesn't feel like a good thing. The only thing super about this show was Haley's public, melodramatic, sycophantic, sappy, campy thank you to Supergirl. And the continued inability to successfully draw a convincing male character for the show. The Superman lore didn't even save this one as it was perverted and contrived by the wishes and hopes of the writers instead of by plausible story constructs and meaningful plot.

This season was intellectually repulsive. I'm certain I've called it vacuous before, but it just fits. The show deserves to be cancelled. If there was any truth and justice out there, it would be. It doesn't excite or stimulate mentally. It doesn't explore the boundaries of storytelling and plot. It doesn't pay homage to the art it came from as much as mocks it. There is nothing redeemable here. But I'm certain it will go on, despite the wishes and hopes of most of its audience.

Warning: Spoilers
!st off, I really like Melissa's acting, as the emotion she can tap into and bring to the screen is Very powerful at times, so much so that ive actually rewatched certain scenes in the series and was blown away by how the emotional intensity she brought to the screen was transmitted to the viewer! very few actors can do this, but she is one of them. The girl playing her sister is a beauty and brings such depth and realness to her role, she is a pleasure to watch..her fight scenes are usually decent as well...That said, the fight scenes regarding supergirl and Everyone else are literally painful to watch, and not in a good way! This has to be some of the worst fight choerography Ever and its sad because its making the lead look very bad as far as her skills go...she was supposed to be training with alex so that she had Some fight skill and not just her strength to rely on, but it looks like she has skipped her training...the fight skills demonstrated by the male leads is pretty aweful as well..this needs to be Seriously revamped by someone who knows what they are doing and who can add realism... the worst thing in Any of these shows , be it Flash, arrow or this one is that strong attackers are show as being easily knocked out with a light kick or punch and they stay down and out....thats NOT how things are in the real world...people are Not that easy to knock out and they dont Stay down, they get back up and keep coming... daredevil had done a great job in capturing realism in that respect..Lex luthor, sorry ,not buying it dude!...the actor just does not have the look or the manner or gravitas of that supervillian...he reminds me of a comedian pretending to be a bad guy...not cutting it...Brainiac, I Really liked the switch that happened and hoped that he was going to stay in "that " mode and go darkside...his normal persona is just to goofy and cartoonish to take seriously...seeing that drop and the serious side come out, and hearing him speak of his race as one of conquerers was chilling..i want to see more of That! I like this show and who wouldnt love melissa? she is such a likeable soul. clean up the fights, and lets clear the goofiness from this show and take it to another level! the lead actors Can act and have shown it at differing times in the series...make it darker, make it serious, Intense and bring up the level of the fights from carnival clown theatrics to something resembling reality and you will have a hit.

As if the show wasnt already dumb enough
aarongnr31 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
We all know that nothing in this show ever really makes any sense, but lets enjoy the fact that Game Of Thrones season 8 is rated lower than this bullcrap.

The thing with supergirl has always been that its incredinly stupid and the dialogue is horrendously bad, but it's always been enjoyable somehow.

I enjoyed parts of season 4 quite abit, the Alien vs Humans with the Children of Liberty was actually pretty interesting and made for some good scenes, but as soon as Lex Luthor appeared it all went downhill.

You know, there is a difference between a smart character, and a character who just appears to be smart because the writers let him know everything he needs to know to appear smart within the story parameters. But as soon as it comes to finishing him off, they make him dumb again. And I hate that sooo much.

The ONE thing, that I consistenly enjoyed in this and parts of last season was Brainy. He works really well for me, even though he should be way smarter than he is, even with "emotions on".

Oh and one thing I forgot to mention: I absolutely hate what they're doing with Lena. As of right now it seems that they want to turn her into a villain after all, which makes absolutely 0 sense. They've told us time and time and time and time again that she, unlike her family had a good heart, and that she herself wants to do GOOD, but then she finds out, that her best friend Kara, is also also someone who saved her life countless times. And suddenly she goes on a rampage? Nah, just nah.

You know whats funny? The reason why I started watching Supergirl again (stopped after season 1) a week ago, was because of her new suit and I kinda wanted to watch the new season because I like it alot. I'm not sure yet whether this was the biggest waste of time of my life.
