James Cameron is sharing one of his favorite moments from “Barbie” with Greta Gerwig, the film’s director and co-writer. It’s America Ferrera’s showstopping monologue, the one that had audiences breaking into applause as her character slams the impossible demands society imposes on women to be successful in ways that don’t threaten men. “You basically sum up thousands of years of the female dilemma in one minute,” Cameron says. “I don’t think it’s ever been done as succinctly and hit the mark so perfectly.”
Cameron delivers that verdict via Zoom from New Zealand, where he’s making the next “Avatar” film. Gerwig is half a world away in New York, but despite the geographic distance, the two have an easy rapport. Perhaps it’s because they share the novel experience of having directed billion-dollar-grossing, culturally defining blockbusters. Their discussion is being taped, which has Gerwig...

"We're all going to get eaten alive!" Yes, yes they probably will. Saban Films has revealed the trailer for an action horror movie called The Flood, another of these junky direct-to-video B-movie horror flicks that seem to be popping up all the time now. It's from the same bad filmmaker who also made Battle For Saipan, also with Casper Van Dien, who is back again for this one. A horde of giant hungry alligators is unleashed on a group of in-transit prisoners and their guards after a massive hurricane floods Louisiana. Yes, this is the alligators-in-a-prison movie, if anyone wants to watch. Starring Casper Van Dien, Nicky Whelan, Louis Mandylor, Devanny Pinn, Ryan Francis, Randy Wayne, and Kim DeLonghi. This does not seem worth anyone's time or money - steer clear of this one, folks. There are plenty of other better giant alligator / croc movies to watch instead: Sewer Gators,...

As it is widely known, Studio Ghibli has been impacting the anime industry rather significantly throughout the years, with some specific elements, such as the relationship with nature and using kids to comment on rather serious topics. being the most widely implemented. “Made in Abyss” is another of these titles, which goes though, into more mature territory, particularly after a point, when violence becomes a factor. Initially a manga series written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi, it then became an anime series and a movie, a video game, while a live-action adaptation is in the works.

The novels of Kazuo Ishiguro have, as the Nobel Prize committee asserted in 2017, “Uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world.” The beloved Japanese-born British writer, 68, has gained an international reputation for his coiled, emotional works such as “The Remains of the Day,” “Never Let Me Go” and “The Buried Giant,” among others.
Ishiguro has also written a few movie scripts, including for directors Guy Maddin and James Ivory. But his screenplay of 2022’s “Living,” an adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s “Ikiru” (1952), set in 1950s London, marks Ishiguro’s purest expression of his talent in the film world. The Nobel committee’s “uncovered the abyss” quote could apply to this story of a reserved bureaucrat (played by an incandescent Bill Nighy) facing his own mortality.

Talent agencies that signed the WGA’s new Code of Conduct aren’t being flooded with calls from writers seeking new representation now that they’ve been ordered by the guild to fire their agents who refused to sign. Deadline reached out to many of the 48 agencies that signed the Code and asked if they’ve been getting calls from writers who fired their agents on this the first business day since the Code went into effect.

When The Elder Scrolls made the jump to consoles in 2002, after spending almost a decade exclusively on PC, there were those who doubted Bethesda could pull off the transition. Would the complexity of the PC RPG series, as well as the keyboard and mouse controls, translate to the Xbox? Or would sacrifices have to be made on the less powerful platform?
Morrowind's Xbox port turned out to be a success, both critically and financially, paving the way for subsequent Bethesda console releases, but that all came at the expense of certain PC features, such as the ability to load mods in the game.
