Luc Besson's outlandish 2014 sci-fi actioner "Lucy" was a bigger hit than you remember. Modestly budgeted at only $40 million (much of which likely went to the salary of star Scarlett Johansson) and armed with an incredibly ludicrous plot, "Lucy" made over $450 million at the international box office, baffling just about everyone. Critics were merely warm on "Lucy," giving it largely indifferent and/or vaguely positive reviews. The movie has a 67% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 236 reviews), with the words "silly" and "ridiculous" being used a lot to describe it.
As of this writing, "Lucy" is becoming a hit again on Netflix, with /FlixPatrol reporting that the film has ranked among the service's top 10 movies in the U.S. since (at least) April 15, 2025, on through to April 21. No one can really say why an 11-year-old sci-fi thriller has suddenly grabbed the attention of so many Netflix subscribers, but we...

Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer just added some serious firepower for Season 4. Sasha Alexander, known for her roles on Rizzoli & Isles and NCIS, has joined the hit legal drama in a recurring role as FBI Agent Dawn Ruth. Described as “no-nonsense” and “intimidating,” Agent Ruth won’t be knocking politely on any doors, that's for sure. According to Netflix’s official character description, she and a colleague crash one of Mickey Haller’s dinners to deliver a thinly veiled threat: drop your FBI investigation… or face the consequences. As we know, that will put her squarely at odds with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s lead character, the slick defense attorney at the center of The Lincoln Lawyer, who is more used to dealing with courtroom drama than FBI pressure.

Drew Barrymore credits 1994’s Western action flick Bad Girls with changing her life at 16 years old.
In a recent episode on The Drew Barrymore Show, the host reunited with co-star Andie MacDowell and the two reminisced about the film (which also featured Madeleine Stowe and Mary Stuart Masterson) about four brothel workers on the lam after a justifiable homicide and who set out in search for a better life in the Wild West.
“When we did Bad Girls, I was 16. I was such a dumbass,” Barrymore said, to which MacDowell responded, “Oh my God, you were so beautiful and so good.”
The Charlie’s Angels star continued, “I always talk about how much it changed my life. If I hadn’t done that film, there’s no way I’d be sitting here right now because it was that film that showed me if you care about something, be involved.

Scarlett Johansson remains one of the most widely known actors working in Hollywood, and she's appeared in a wide variety of genres over the last three decades. Johannson is now most associated, of course, with her work in the MCU, having first joined the franchise with Iron Man 2 in 2010 as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow. Johansson bid Marvel farewell with the release of Black Widow in 2021.
Outside of her work in the MCU, Johansson has appeared in acclaimed titles like Asteroid City (2023) and Marriage Story (2019), as well as Under the Skin (2013), a foray into horror. Johansson has also appeared in a handful of romantic comedies over the years, including Lost in Translation (2003), Don Jon (2013), He's Just Not That Into You (2009), and Scoop (2006). The actor returned to the genre once more this year, starring opposite Channing Tatum.

In an unexpected turn of events, one of the worst romantic comedies of the 21st century has been in Max's top 10 for over a week. Don't expect the film to be on any top romantic comedies lists, since it doesn't do too well with modern audiences. The 2009 film He's Just Not That Into You sits at a positive 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb, but hasn't seemed to age well over time, with viewers coming to recognize that the film based on a 2004 dating self-help book is, well, out-dated.
If it's so out-dated, then why is the romantic comedy trending in Max's top 10? Some are revisiting the film for nostalgia or genuine interest, while the majority are looking back at how hilariously bad the ensemble film is. The movie adaptation of the book He's Just Not That Into You by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, dictates the rules and myths that they say command the dating game.

Acting might seem easy on the outside, but is a tremendously troublesome job where one scene can ruin the entire feel of a project. Whether it involves something as easy as drinking coffee to kissing scenes, actors need to be perfect at everything they do to make the experience as real as possible.

Bradley Cooper's image has changed a lot over the years. From "A Star is Born" to "Maestro," today's Cooper likes to play roles that are more complicated and introspective. But before he could go for the artsy roles that showed off his range, he first had to make a name for himself as the confident jerk. He played an over-the-top dirtbag boyfriend in 2005's "Wedding Crashers," and an irredeemable cheating husband in 2009's "He's Just Not That Into You." If you wanted to cast a mean dude for the audience to hate, mid-2000s Cooper was your guy.
That's why "The Hangover" in 2009 was such a good transitional role for him: he was still playing a selfish, opportunistic person, but his character Phil had a heart of gold underneath that rough exterior. When she’s not earning laughs as the flighty but metamorphosing Summer Dutkowsky, the self-proclaimed “hot one” of Girls5eva, the real Busy Philipps — beloved actor, internet personality, and podcaster — has spent the past seven years building a reputation as the brutally honest one.
Around 2017, Philipps started chronicling her daily life on the then-nascent Instagram Stories, speaking directly into the camera with a confessional “Ok … You guys …,” followed by whatever might pop into her brain at any given moment. For Bradley Cooper, his star wasn’t just born. He’s been in Hollywood for decades, and yet the multi-hyphenate talent seems to still be discovering more of his talents.
After cornering the rom-com market with an iconic “Sex and the City” cameo and a sultry “He’s Just Not That Into You” storyline, Cooper expanded into darker dramas. Cooper’s “Place Beyond the Pines” performance in the two-hander alongside fellow 2024 Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling, sporting the same “Barbie” bleach dye job, paved the way for Cooper’s “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle” turns for both David O. Russell films. It’s almost as though Cooper has too many best roles to count.
Eventually, Cooper himself made his directorial debut with Oscar-winning “A Star Is Born.” Cooper helming “Asib” not only landed him among the canon of classic film history with the retelling of the beloved show business romance,...

Bradley Cooper's 6-year-old daughter, Lea, makes her acting debut in the film Maestro, playing a young version of Jamie Bernstein. Lea's cameo occurs around the 36-minute mark of the movie and is a special moment for Cooper's daughter. Maestro is Bradley Cooper's second directorial film after A Star is Born, and it features an all-star cast including Cooper himself, Maya Hawke, Carey Mulligan, and more.
Though it is well-known by now that actor Bradley Cooper both starred in and also directed Netflix's musical drama Maestro, another significant detail about his involvement is that his 6-year-old daughter, Lea, also played a role in the film. Maestro tells the true story of the romance between famed composer Leonard Bernstein and Costa Rican actress Felicia Montealegre. Aside from playing Leonard Bernstein, Bradley Cooper also directed the Maestro movie, making this the second film he has ever directed, the first being 2018's A Star is Born.

Among the most underrated romantic comedies ever made is Comet (2014), starring Emmy Rossum and Justin Long. Those performers got their start around the same time as one another, with Long debuting in Galaxy Quest (1999) and Rossum in Songcatcher (2000) at the turn of the century. The former film is far more famous. But Songcatcher saw great success upon release, as well. In the following year, Long starred in a horror stint called Jeepers Creepers (2001), and it was off to superstardom from there.
Meanwhile, Rossum appeared in Mystic River (2003) by Clint Eastwood, then traversed a similar trajectory. She followed up with another supporting role in The Day After Tomorrow (2004), along with the first co-starring role of her career in The Phantom of the Opera (2004). But more recent fans of Rossum's may be familiar with her versatile career thanks to her leading role as Fiona Gallagher in the hit television series Shameless. She's...

Jennifer Aniston's role as Rachel in Friends defined her career and made her a Hollywood icon, despite her success in movies and other TV shows. Rachel was the main character in Friends and her storylines, especially her relationship with Ross, sparked discussion and influenced the analysis of relationships in other shows and movies. Aniston excelled in romantic comedies during the 2000s, but also proved her talent in dramatic roles, breaking away from her comedic reputation and earning award nominations and acclaim.
Though her Friends role as Rachel isn't Jennifer Aniston's best part, it has come to define her career and is her most iconic turn. Debuting in 1994, Friends follows the exploits of six young adults who try to navigate life in New York City. Scarlett Johansson couldn’t get her audition for Alfonso Cuarón’s “Gravity” off the ground.
The “Under the Skin” star told Entertainment Tonight about doing a screen test for Cuarón’s Oscar-winning 2013 film that eventually starred Sandra Bullock as an astronaut whose space shuttle is destroyed.
Johansson revealed that she has “done a lot of weird screen tests” and cited “Gravity” as one of them.
“I did a screen test for the movie ‘Gravity,’ that Sandra Bullock is fantastic in, but I had to be in, like, the full whole space suit thing, and sort of pretend I was kind of like floating in space,” Johansson said, “even though I was just sitting in a chair with a helmet on.”
The “Asteroid City” actress recently told Variety that she felt “hopeless” after losing out on “Gravity” amid a slew of “unfulfilling” roles.

Scarlett Johansson has done phenomenal work in film. She’s coasted from genre to genre, beginning her career in the 1994 film North. Johansson’s movies have grossed nearly $15 billion, making her the highest-grossing actor of all time ahead of her MCU co-star Robert Downey Jr. and action star Tom Cruise. Some of her most prominent work includes rom-coms like He’s Just Not That Into You, Her, and Rough Night. She’s also been the voice behind plenty of animated characters like Princess Mindy in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Kaa in The Jungle Book, and Ash in Sing.
Though Johansson has brought laughs to many screens, she’s also brought inspiration. Her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has catapulted her into a realm not many actresses have visited, as her recurring role as Black Widow has brought her monumental success. However, with great regard, comes great endings — and as of this year,...

For quite some time now, Christmas has come every day for Ali Afshar.
The actor, producer and former race car driver is founder and president of Esx Entertainment, a prolific indie film and TV production company that’s made its name in recent years pumping Yuletide content to streamers amid the pandemic.
The projects are modestly budgeted and shot efficiently and safely, mostly due to Afshar’s commandeering of his hometown — a sleepy Sonoma County village called Petaluma, where he built a soundstage from a converted barn and mines below-the-line crew from local residents. Titles include Netflix’s “A California Christmas” and its sequel “City Lights,” and the HBO Max originals “A Christmas Mystery,” “A Hollywood Christmas” and “Holiday Harmony.”
Afshar’s well-oiled Christmas machine functions at such a level that, during a recent conversation with Variety, he revealed he was in the middle of shooting another film — “A Wine Country Christmas.

Jay Shetty loves love.
So much so that the life coach and self-help guru worried his emotions would get the best of him when he officiated Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s wedding in August. “The No. 1 thing that was going through my mind was, ‘Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry.’ Because I’m a full-on crier,’” Shetty says, adding, “I was just talking myself down. So I had to just pull myself together because… every part of me just wanted to sob full of love.”
J.Lo and Affleck aren’t Shetty’s only Hollywood devotees. A former monk, Shetty also officiated Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell’s wedding. Scarlett Johansson is looking back on how her decades-long career impacted her view of herself.
In an episode of the “Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi” podcast (via THR), Johansson reflected on roles in “Lost in Translation” and “Girl With the Pearl Earring,” which she followed with roles in films like “Scoop,” “Match Point,” “The Black Dahlia,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” and “He’s Just Not That Into You,” often playing a seductress-type character. Johansson admitted to having to break free of the typecasting and untangle her own identity growing up in the spotlight.
“I did ‘Lost in Translation’ and ‘Girl With the Pearl Earring,’ and by that point, I was 18, 19 and I was coming into my own womanhood and learning my own desirability and sexuality,” Johansson said. “I was kind of being groomed, in a way, to be this what you call a bombshell-type actor. I was playing the other woman...
