Only the first season is worth watching

Warning: Spoilers
I dare say that the first season of "Una Familia de Diez" manages to stand out from the rest of the programs created and/or produced by Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo. It is worth mentioning that during its second broadcast on the channel "Galavisión" (Channel 9 in Mexico) around 2008, the show managed to reach success with quite decent rating points.

In general, the first season had quite enjoyable and funny situations; perhaps the only problems I find is that sometimes it abuses the use of jokes referring to the situations that occurred in Mexico in those years (especially regarding the country's politics), which may not be fully understood by younger audiences, plus some things used to be somewhat repetitive, but without reaching exaggerations.

Of all the characters in the series, the best (without fear of being wrong), is the grandfather Don Arnoldo, played by comedian Eduardo Manzano, who during the 60's and 70's together with actor and comedian Enrique Cuenca formed the famous comedy duo called "Los Polivoces". Manzano is the one who provides the memorable situations and jokes for the entire program.

Such was the success and popularity of the show that a second season was made around 2008 and 2009, which never saw the light of day, allegedly due to budget problems. However, some time later, a play of the program was produced, which continued with the events of the first season of the program; it is worth mentioning that the play enjoyed some success.

In 2019, a new season was announced and premiered some time later. However, the new season did not live up to what the first one was, as I was expecting to see some more interesting progress in the lives of all the characters (but obviously without losing their essence).

And what did the audience get?... Well, the exaggeration of the characters' traits (which is quite annoying), the introduction to the show of 2 kids that I don't find funny enough (and who also act in an exaggerated way), the forced jokes and the practically obligatory, forced and predictable references to certain internet phenomena and memes (this situation has already been seen in the new seasons of Televisa's comedy shows, as is the case of "Vecinos"), the latter is intended to bring the younger generations a little closer to the program, which only provokes cringy moments. In addition, the situations that occur between the main characters are repetitive, predictable and boring, such as the recurring arguments between the characters of "Martina" and "La Nena"; although these arguments occur since the first season, they are now more exaggerated and annoying.

Likewise, some secondary and irrelevant characters (which increase with each new season) without grace or charisma become important in the plot of the episodes. Manzano's character has less and less participation and in more recent seasons, he only appears occasionally in video calls (since Don Arnoldo is supposed to be in Hollywood acting in different movies).

As of the time of writing this review (October 2022), 6 seasons have been made; each new season has fewer episodes than the previous one, and also less and less entertainment and less good ideas.

After all this, I am surprised that it is supposedly one of the most watched programs on Sundays (because the episodes of the first season are not even broadcast and I also doubt that the rating points that the television station gives are true), and also that they continue to premiere new seasons (something that also happens with "Vecinos", because in just 5 years 10 seasons have been released and they also have fewer episodes and less fun).

Now, I regret that the audience (including me) have asked for a new season of the show.

Due to all of the above, I give "Una Familia de Diez" a rating of 6 out of 10 possible stars. Maybe I should give it less, but at least for me the first season is really entertaining and the rest barely manages to cause a slight laugh.
