The man in the ending scene wearing the members only jacket who walks in the restaurant to the counter, takes a peak over at Tony Soprano and his family and then walks into the bathroom for an unknown reason is played by Paolo Colandrea, the owner of Penndel Pizza in Penndel, Pennsylvania.
The finale was directed by show creator David Chase. The only other episode Chase directed was the pilot.
When it premiered (June 10, 2007), it was viewed by 11.9 million viewers.
The final scene of the episode was filmed in late March 2007 at Holsten's Brookdale Confectionery, an ice cream and candy shop located in Bloomfield, New Jersey. The Bloomfield Township Council initially tried to stop HBO from filming in the town because they found the show offensive to Italian-Americans and voted to deny the production company a filming permit. However, as the council had no authority to stop filming in the town as long as the crew met the requirements stated in Bloomfield's code for filming crews, a permit was later issued.
Even though her character of Meadow's friend, Hunter, played by Michele DeCesare, appears in only six episodes of the series, significantly she is featured in both the first and the final episodes.
During his final conversation with Uncle Junior, Tony refers to their line of work as "this thing of ours," which is an almost literal translation of Cosa Nostra, the official name of the Sicilian mafia.
