- Connecticut teens wed, pursue separate colleges. Distance and emerging attraction to gifted musician strain marriage.
- Connecticut high-school students Max Doyle and Jessica Carpenter fall in love and feel making love isn't enough, so they brave everyone's objections and get married. Jess gets accepted at Harvard, to pursue her lifelong ambition to become an orthopedic surgeon; Max decides against accepting any other college and waits for another chance to get in, meanwhile taking a job in construction. They end up spending little time together; she even sort of falls for fellow student Carter, a gifted guitarist-singer. When Max announces that he no longer aspires to college, she blames him for changing their plans. This is too much ingratitude for his love to overlook.—KGF Vissers
- Max Doyle and Jessica Carpenter are high-school seniors in a small Connecticut town, and they are in love. Their immediate future involves attending Harvard after they graduate so they can be together. Then overachieving Jess is accepted into Harvard, but Max's application is deferred although he's accepted into five other colleges, the closest to Harvard being 300 miles away. They impulsively get engaged--Max's parents married young and seem happy. Meanwhile, Jess' parents are going through a nasty divorce--being older doesn't guarantee happy marriages. Their converse argument is that being young and in love will lead to a better marriage than Jess' parents. Max's parents like Jess and Jess' parents like Max, but the parents are split on whether to give their blessing to this marriage. It doesn't matter for 18-year-old of-age Max, but 17-year-old underage Jess needs the consent of at least one parent. If they are able to go through with the marriage, their options are to have a long-distance relationship, for Jess to forgo Harvard and attend one of Max's schools, or for Max to move to Boston and work his way into ultimately getting accepted to Harvard; they choose this last. Can their relationship withstand these pressures, will they be able to prove their naysayers wrong, or are they indeed too young and irresponsible to deal with the adult issues that go along with marriage?—Huggo
