Good show with lovable characters! Ahead of its time
KurttheWord7413 May 2019
I would rate this 7.5 if I could. Very unique and relatable. Yes this show has flaws, but the good moments outweigh them. If you didn't watch this show from 2007 when it debuted, you probably won't like it as much. I really recommend watching from Season one. Season one is a bit kiddish and cringey(actors were like 12) but the story is on point! As the seasons when on characters got more mature and it was even better to watch. Seasons 2-4 in my opinion was prime Icarly. Especially season 4. Seasons 5-6 the characters were like 18-19 years old which made it feel like a real TeenNick show. If you're like me and haven't watched it in several years, I recommend you do so. If this show started in 2019, it would be 10x better than it is. Ahead of its time for sure!

Pretty good
Jennifer_Aldaine4 July 2013
Another hit from Dan Schneider. The show is full of quirky random behavior which I find pretty funny. The acting is okay, but not great. Sam Puckett's lazy and juvenile personality is hilarious and entertaining. Carly Shay is kinda meh, but still pretty like-able. Personally, I think Miranda is a pretty decent actress, but I feel she shines best when playing an "evil" character, like Megan from Drake and Josh. Spencer Shay's falling and fire gags were entertaining at first, but became sort of tired as the show went on. Overall, the show is pretty good. Maybe some touch ups on the acting here and there, but should provide entertainment for the whole family.

iWon't lie: I think it's a cute kids' show, even if uHate puns like this title.
Ddey6524 August 2008
It seems like with everything Dan Schneider has produced, semi-spin-offs are inevitable. It certainly would seem that way with every kids' show he has produced. Amanda Bynes became such a force on "All That," she got her own variety show, which she was much better than. Former All That & Amanda Show cast-members Drake Bell & Josh Peck got a show of their own, and now Miranda Cosgrove, who played Drake's little sister on that one gets her own show here.

Cosgrove plays as Carly Shay, a teenage girl from Seattle who's the host of her own internet site and show. Her co-host and best friend is Samantha Puckett, a girl played by Jennette McCurdy, and my memories of Miss McCurdy are from an exceptionally heart-breaking episode of "Law & Order; Special Victims Unit." Fortunatley, she gets to co-star in something much less heavy-handed. Not to say that the character she plays on this series is anything like that one guest appearance. She's an allegedly tomboy-ish, obnoxious girl who's hostile to a fault, always gets in trouble at school, and apparently has a drunken, mentally-ill mother who we see as often as Dr. Niles Crane's wife in "Fraiser."

The only boy on her show is their technical producer and cameraman Freddie Benson(Nathan Kress), a boy in Carly's class who lives in an apartment across the hall from her and has an unshakable crush on her. Carly has made it clear that she doesn't feel the same way, something he's painfully aware of. Sam thinks even less of him, since he's a frequent target of her insults. Carly gets to do what she does, because she lives with her brother Spencer, a 20-something avant-garde artist played by Jerry Trainor. Trainor is another veteran of "Schneider's Bakery," being known for his role as Crazy Steve in "Drake & Josh." It helps to try to think of him as a rational version of Kramer from "Seinfeld."

You wouldn't think that a TV show about a webcast would be interesting, but it is. If I tried to make a webshow, it would either bore the crap out of you, or annoy you to no end. In all honesty I'm as bad of a public speaker as President Bush. In any case, this show revolves around the lives of Carly & Sam and how they integrate it with the webshow, and how real life sometimes gets in the way and vice-versa. Speaking of real-life, it actually has real-live kids making their own webcasts for the show, although I'm convinced a lot of the kids are obscure kid actors. Good or bad, these videos tend to end up on the show, as well as Nickeodeon's website. And yes, you have some that are amusing and some that are annoying(your tastes may vary). These completely mental misadventures of Carly, Sam, and Freddie are hardly groundbreaking, but enjoyable nevertheless. If you don't have an aversion to kids' sitcoms, perhaps you should give it a try.

For the most part, I like this show, but some parts are questionable
cemetery_whispers10 October 2010
I watched ICarly when it was first on, and i was really impressed at the first couple of episodes. It was funny, cute, and good-natured, and i was pretty young then, so i didn't think about it too deeply. This show has survived on Nickelodeon pretty well for about three years, and i have to give it a thumbs-up for being so popular.

First, the good things about the show: It' usually a really good show with some good humor and likable characters, and they usually try to do the right thing. If little kids are watching, they'll get a few life lessons from it. Spencer is my favorite character, next is Gibby. They, in my opinion, are what give the show most of it's fun. Some of the jokes are pretty funny, and they do a good job at keeping you entertained with most episodes. The whole idea of a girl making a web show is pretty unique, and i have to say that there hasn't been a show like this before. For the older people watching, the guys'll want to look at Carly and Sam, and some of the other girls on the show, and it is sometimes good for that. The plots of the episodes are usually pretty funny and creative, and some of them are realistic, while others aren't (but they're all fun.) I like watching this most of the time, which is where the 7 comes from.

There are bad things about this show, too. The one that i think of is that they show it too much. It's probably on Nick about eight times a day, and by then, i'm sick to death of it. Same goes for Dan Schneider's other show, Victorious. Secondly, some of the humor in the show is questionable. Sam is pretty annoying in a lot of episodes, and even Carly can be sometimes. In the episode where she wants to go to the boxing thing, and Spencer tells her no, she acts like a brat, and then when he busts her, she gets mad at him for something he says to the boxing guy. Other episodes like the fencing episode show that Carly bosses Spencer around but she can ignore him if he gets serious. In addition, the characters on this show are obsessed with texting and phones, and that gets really annoying. They've been going everywhere themselves and doing things by themselves like they're adults since the very start, even when they were, like, 13, they use the laugh track too much and they can even get away with hiring a bunch of little kids to make shirts for them! Oh, and everyone, and i mean EVERYONE knows what their show is. How does that really happen?

For the most part, i recommend this, because it's a pretty good show, although you'll probably pick up on the same things i did.

One of the greatest nick sitcoms ever. It's a hilarious show and great for families to watch together. The cast has great chemistry too and I still love this show very much.

Another great sitcom from Nickelodeon. iCarly preserves Drake and Josh's legacy with a show equally as funny and emotional. I love these characters and their reactions to different situations! Nickelodeon just doesn't make sitcoms like this anymore.

iCarly captures a not-so-common life of a pre-teen girl perfectly. A smart, witty, funny girl and her best friend Sam have cool life having an awesome hobby (a TV Show), a spacious condo or apartment and her guardian is her 26 year old brother. It is one of those few shows where it's centered around a teenage girl, but guys can relate to it really well especially with the eccentric Spencer and the adorable yet sometimes annoying Freddy. I like iCarly mainly because I am a sucker for 21st century sitcoms and dramas like Drake and Josh and sometimes Zoey 101. Some of them may be girly but I love watching how kids/teens act with everyday things encountering their life. iCarly has a well rounded personality making this the best Nick sitcom in my view.

I miss Drake & Josh...
JayP12910 November 2008
but i'm not saying this show is bad but Drake & Josh was better. Anyways, iCarly is funny, weird, and plain dumb sometimes. Nonetheless, iLove iCarly! With Carly, her best friend Sam, and Freddy, iCarly is a web show that Carly and Sam (Freddy is Tech Producer) perform together to make over 10,000 kids laugh all around the world (or U.S, idk). Carly is the one who comes up the skits, Sam just does what Carly says, and Freddy makes all of the special effects and "RANDOM DANCING!"(LOL). iAm giving this a 6/10 because Drake & Josh were more funny. iGuess Miranda (Carly) just wanted to move on. iHeard this Christmas that Drake & Josh will have it's own Christmas special. But iReccomend iCarly to everyone.

formulaic adorably charming
SnoopyStyle21 January 2017
Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) lives with her older brother Spencer in Seattle while their father is stationed overseas. Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy) is her tomboy best friend. Her next door neighbor Freddie Benson (Nathan Kress) is infatuated with her. The three school kids start a web show after being forced to host auditions for a school talent show. It gains popularity and leads to plenty of wacky hijinx.

This is another wacky tween show from uberproducer Dan Schneider. He has almost perfected the formula. He gets charming and energetic kid leads, wacky adults, sweet and nice settings, bright and brash style, and simple sitcom writing. It's a simple formula that works and this particular show works well. The three kids are all adorably charming. There is a wacky brother and a few side characters. There is nothing too edgy. It's a perfectly constructed piece of tween sitcom entertainment although it's not for anybody older.

Miss this show....
IDCwhatYouThink6 June 2020
I know I'm late to the party on this one, but I miss it. I was planning to write a longer review right now, but thadiusmain took the words right out of my mouth. I love this show for every reason that reviewer said. Back when this was on the air, I was in the worst spot of my life. I was a recent college grad with no job prospects and unemployed. This show was the only thing that could make me smile at that time. I'd watch it to ease my stress and just relax and disappear from the world. Of course, I do remember browsing online job sites while I watched it too, but this show kept me company when I thought the world was against me and I had virtually no self-esteem from being rejected by so many employers, so thank you for the quality entertainment throughout your 5 year run. This show will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart!

Dumb... A good dumb... A HILARIOUS DUMB!
ryanaustinf3 June 2009
Nickelodeon, good (Drake and Josh), Bad (Doug), Ugly (AHHHH! Real Monsters). It always impressed me. But the turning point began when Spongebob Squarepants first aired. Spongebob is the pivot of the fall of Nickelodeon. First few seasons were awesome, movie was mediocre, after than Spongebob has become Spongebomb. And with Nick's newer shows like El Tigre, Mighty B and Edgar and Ellen, I don't think I'll ever have Nick back. But wait! What about the new Sitcoms! Drake and Josh and the focus of this review, iCarly. Now iCarly is usually looked at as a "girly show." But no, if you're a critic, amateur or professional, you'll watch anything. And at first I thought iCarly was girly but it's for everyone to enjoy! The jokes aren't all about girls, ponies, or any feminine stereotypes. Most of the jokes can be enjoyed by anyone. So we have the main characters, Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove), Sam Puckett (Jenette McCurdy), Freddie Benson(Nathan Kress), and Spencer Shay(Jerry Trainor). The funniest characters are Sam and Spencer personally but Carly and Freddie have their moments. Especially in Season 2 when Carly and Freddie became funnier. There really isn't a villain but anyone who tries to shutdown their site. Nevel Papperman (Reed Alexander) is someone who comes to mind in a snap. He's hilarious as well but can get annoying at times. The supporting character is basically Gibby. Gibby is annoying. Every scene he's in he takes his ****ing shirt off. DUDE THAT"S NOT CUTE. IT IS ANNOYING. The comedy here is just hilarious too. Some times it's a silent chuckle but sometimes it's a ROTFLMFAOOL moment. The story is simple. 3 kids make a webshow. They face problems involving or not involving the webshow. OK but the problem is Season 1 had it's charms. Season 2 so far only had a few good episodes. So overall, I give iCarly, a 78% awesome.

My daughter loves this show....and okay, iDo too.
sirguitarist11 May 2008
There is not a lot out there that a guy my age can watch with his 11 year old daughter. Most of prime time network TV is way too adult themed to feel good about letting her watch, and many of the kid shows are just too annoying for my tastes. Along comes iCarly, a show my daughter and I have watched from the beginning. The show is definitely aimed at kids, but there are enough funny moments (often provided by Spencer, played by Jerry Trainor) to keep me interested as well. All of the four main characters (Carly, Sam, Freddy and Spencer) are likable and have good chemistry. You get the feeling that they like each other off the set as well. As the first season is coming to an end, I can only hope they'll continue making more. I recommend this for any Dad (who has a sense of humor and still knows how to be a kid once in a while) to watch with his kid(s).

It's an OK show...kinda unrealistic in some parts...
jlhracer25 July 2008
I do enjoy watching this show. There are parts on this show that are kinda cheesy but still pretty good. Miranda Cosgrove was a good pick for Carly but can get annoying at times. I do like Jeannte McCurdy. She does a great job playing Sam. Jerry Trainor was awesome on Drake and Josh playing 'Crazy Steve' and is really good on this show but however I don't really like Nathan Kress playing Freddie. I just find his acting on this show kinda weak and can get very annoying at times.

but however this show is kinda unrealistic as well. I mean, I don't see how web shows can get 300,000 viewers a week but yet again I have never seen a web show and also there was an episode where the show was turned into a TV show. I found that very unrealistic as chances of that happening in real life is slim to none. and that episode where that shoe company wanted them to advertise their shoes. I don't know how they can get paid $100,000 for doing just that. That's quite a lot of money to advertise on a web show. and last but not least, that biggest fan episode. Well, it's not unrealistic but that girl was so da** annoying!

Overall, I find this show pretty funny. Like said just moments ago, it can be very unrealistic but it's just a show. 6/10.

Funny as ever
foolishsker9 September 2007
OK so you have this girl, Carly, living with her artistic brother Spencer. Carly has a best friend named Sam, when they are forced into doing their schools auditions for the talent show they see that a lot of their class mates have awesome talents. So long story short they start up some webisodes called "iCarly" were they host many wonderful and yet random talented people. This is all done with the help of Carly's annoying neighbor, Freddie, who also has a crush on Carly.

Anyway the show is a hit that is watched by thousands of people. Personally though, I think that Jerry Trainor that plays Spencer steels the show. His random lines and insane attitude makes me crack up so much. For instance in the first episode Carly asks him to lend her his camera but he can't because he made it into a squirrel.

Overall it's fun and cool and I recommend it to everyone,

I miss this tv show so much. I also live Victorious for its episodes and funny warm humor that always hits the spot. To me though, I also wished Victorious got a proper series finale if this show could manage one.

Surprisingly good
bearfaceproductions15 August 2009
OK, Nickelodeon has released many comedy shows that I don't think should even have the comedy tag, like Zoey 101, Naked Bothers Band and True Jackson VP, those show are terrible. Yet, iCarly manages to make me laugh.

First it was the show All That, then The Amanda Show, next Drake and Josh and now iCarly. All these shows are funny and good for the entire family, the reason is that all these show are created and directed by Dan Schneider. Dan Schneider is an awesome mastermind for kids comedy. Dan also did a awesome job in "What I like about you".

The iCarly show starts Miranda Cosgrove a very appealing girl who makes a good job when working on comedy. Jenette McCurdy and Nathan Kress have made cameo appearances on many shows but they are stars in this show, their future looks bright. The show iCarly sometimes doesn't make me laugh, at times it gets a little boring, sometimes I get a good laugh and sometimes I run out of breath when laughing, and mostly its really entertaining.

Lucas (the one who plays Fred on youtube) made a guest star appearance on one episode, I don't find Fred to be funny, but when the show is directed by a mastermind like Dan Schneider, you can expect great laughs. Also on many times there is a moral in the episodes, parents I recommend that your kids watch this show.

A Captivating Teenage Series
RECB320 August 2023
This is a terrific series. I truly believe that this series was what really began and lifted teenage series, and inspired other series like Victorious, Henry Danger, and others. I finally watched the whole series when I was in my late twenties, and a couple of episodes made me teary. This series revealed multiple themes and the nature of the life of a teenager. It focuses on reality in order for viewers to watch and learn. Viewers easily can gain a clear perspective of the challenges of the particular age group.

I enjoyed watching this series. I experienced multiple emotions throughout the series. I learned and understood more about the image that the series is sending to the viewers. The cast really connected to the storyline. It allows them to learn about themselves as well.

IAm Nostalgic
angelicanieves-5926225 October 2021
I used to watch this show as a kid back when it first came out. I instantly fell in love with the cute, lightheartedness of it. The show had an innocent and refreshing charm to it, not to mention it was pretty ahead of its time. We see a young girl and her friends coming of age while navigating the challenges of middle/high school, all while slowly garnering fame with their weekly webshow. The characters were funny and adorable. Sadly, I fell off watching it for awhile because I just wasn't a fan of the newer seasons. The jokes started becoming much more corny, which would have been forgiveable if the newer episodes weren't so mean-spirited. Freddie was the butt of every one of Sam's jokes, and Carly would never defend him, most likely in an effort to keep the peace. In fact, she herself began to get rather mouthy especially with her older brother who served as her guardian. She and Sam both became quite tempermental and combative to the point where it just became a chore to sit through their banter. Gibby was a total goofball, but I personally preferred him as a supporting character rather than a main character. He was just sort of "there" in the last few seasons as a main character, it seems. Wasn't a fan of his schtick or his humor and find him to be rather annoying. T-Bo, however, is hilarious.

Now that this show is on Paramount+, I've found myself binge watching it on my lunch breaks. I can safely say that I can stomach the newer episodes a little more than I could back as a teen, but I still prefer seasons 1-3.

Spectacular
RNMorton20 February 2015
Nick has started re-running this series and it reminded me of how really solid it was from start to finish. It was a combination of three key factors - great series concept (teenage girls running their own daily webcast), fantastic ensemble casting, and really good writing show in and show out. Victorious took awhile to get going, ended up being okay, but nothing Nick in this genre has ever consistently scored like this. Maybe nothing ever scored like this in the teen genre. Miranda provides the core of the show, Freddie is the ultimate good guy without being overdone, while Sam is a unique teen show character for the ages. Like early SpongeBob, this show has amazing viewing range, my 9 year old watches it regularly now (as my 13 year old did in its first run), and I've enjoyed each episode. Unlike SpongeBob, this show ended at exactly the right time. Kudos.

iCarly is hilarious
junkmailstuff4565 November 2012
Such a great show! iCarly may be stupid, pointless, and unrealistic... but it gives you a good laugh!!! I have to admit, some of the characters are very stupid, but they're funny, which is what counts! Spencer is goofy, and exactly what you'd want in an older brother. Freddie is cute and techie. Carly is a goody goody, but she's a good character. Sam is funny, but violent and mean. T-Bo is hilarious... And Gibby... Gibby... Well Gibby's just Gibby. This show is very unique, and original. Most Disney shows are just the same concept over and over, but Nickelodeon is good at coming up with good, new ideas. I really like this show, and when it ends, I'll be very sad :(

ICarly has to of been one of Nickelodeon's best tween sitcoms. It is about a teenage girl named Carly who has her own web show with her Bff Sam Puckett as the cohost and her neighbor and other Best Friend as the technical producer. The characters are loveable with Sam's fierce attitude, Carly sweet appearance and adorable Freddie. I love iCarly! P.S. I know this is the but I wish a new sitcom will be as great as this in 2020...

Excellent!
thadiusmain4 August 2008
I love it! It's absolutely brilliant. Relaxing, light hearted, happy, a real feel-good show. The acting is very good. All characters are identifiable, real, and very engrossing. Miranda Cosgrove does a star performance as Carly Shay, the 13 year old girl who hosts the web show. The character is a pinnacle of a happy person. Her friends are just as interesting and well played, especially Sam, possibly the most interesting character on the show. The themes are usually happy and positive, and it sends good messages about life in general. If anyone needed something to take their minds off their problems or to relax or take a break, this is an excellent show that will make anyone laugh. It is definitely comedic, in a very well designed way. Characters are usually funny for what they do or who they are, not because of scripted lines or jokes. The whole mood of the episodes are nice and funny, and like any good piece of art, it is propelled by the characters. If anyone ever wants to calm down, relax, and watch a little light hearted TV, this is the show. I recommend it to anyone interested in relaxation.
