Lain has long been my favorite anime series, and the works of Chiaki J Konaka (such as Malice@Doll) have explored concepts in media that have connected with me down to my deepest beliefs in a way I've not gotten from any other writer. To top off a magnificent avant garde journey, Ego serves as the perfect conclusion to the world, and character, of Lain. I won't get into the plot in specifics in this review, but the colossal stakes of the final events of tackled in these last twenty minutes of Lain elevate this singular concluding episode above the rest of this already stellar, one-of-a-kind experience steeped in a healthy amount of experimentalism and legitimate philosophy.
