Izzy Shined
sblrara16 April 2021
Overall, an excellent episode. While re-watching the series I felt the need to review this episode.

In previous episodes, Izzy has bothered me. From her attachment to Denny to her overreacting to certain situations, her character has always bothered me. She's done insane stuff in the past and there's a lot more crap she does in future episodes.

This episode however is one where she shines. She was never that great with the medical aspect of her character, but she shines in this episode. I could feel the fear she gept when she had to drill the burr holes. She did so well that when Richard told her she was off probation, I completely forgot sh was on probation.

Burr Holes
CrookshanksG9 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Izzie's scene was so intense and she's pulled through like a queen!!! Doing the work surrounded by men. That was so good I feel my heart beating faster with them and my heart stopping and holding my breath while she was doing the burr holes! So glad the man was okay and she was off probation!

I admit I screamed after the end
beaglefan9215 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
All right, so last week's episode had us in the grips of uneasiness. Um, heroic save by Derek, like nobody saw THAT coming. however, what I SERIOUSLY didn't see coming was the panic that seized me during this episode.

spoilers coming. OK, so there were slightly weak parts - Alex and Izzie didn't seem to have enough to do - cmon, bring on the tense dilemmas! But OK, I watched this with a bunch of random girls, and it was so sweet and sad to watch this episode. Who can forget Derek, in his bleakest moments, allowing Sloan to lay his hand on his arm as a gesture of comfort? And yeah, the most panicking moment was the (SPOILER!!!!!!!!) flatliner. I was in disbelief. "Ok, this is ridiculous. She is supposed to be sputtering and throwing up water by now! not flatlining, for god's sake!" then the famous hushed black screen with "grey's anatomy" flashed on, looming closer, and i was in shock. after i stopped panicking, i rationalized that it was obvious that she couldn't die, otherwise for god's sake, i think everybody would stop watching grey's anatomy.

otherwise, excellent episode. who can't say they were shocked to see (insert name) and (insert name) at the end? though i had my problems with the soundtrack. grey's is known for its incredible soundtrack (the long minutes i spent looking for the names of some of the songs played!) but this one, with such an emotional and tense episode, the soundtrack was disappointing.

Meredith is so not dead. SERIOUSLY
missdramatic2117 February 2007
After thinking long and hard about the situation in which Meredith Grey is involved I've come to a conclusion. She is not going to die. Seriously! First of all the show is called Greys Anatomy, there not going to kill off Grey. (Plus Ellen Pompeo has a four year contract.) Besides, what would happen to Derek? or Ellis? Burke and Christina wouldn't get married. Not without Christinas person there to help her drag the body of the person she killed across the living room. Too much trauma would happen to each character on the show. And lets not forget George. I think a lot of us r not thinking deep enough into the previous season. George never clearly stated he was over Meredith. He apologized to her, and said he knew he shouldn't have slept with her, but what if Derek is not the only one still in love with Meredith? And Addison. She would have to live with the guilt of pulling Meredith away from Derek for the last year of her life, even though she subconsciously knew that marriage would not work. Regardless of what happens to everyone else on the show, Meredith is currently in a room with the leader of the bomb squad in the episode in season 2 "its the end of the world" and of course Denny who are the 2 people who have died and effected her since the beginning of her internship at Seattle. My theory is that in the final part of this three segment episode the two of them will help Meredith get out of her risky situation.

Iconic!!
rodrigues-3918922 February 2020
This is one of the most iconic episodes of grey's anatomy and there's a reason for it, this episode has heartbreak and an exciting premise. Simply grey's anatomy at its best! The opening scene of this episode will forever go down as on of the most memorable in grey's history

There are better Grey's episodes, up to this point
slak96u19 January 2022
Episodes 15, 16, and 17 of season 3 is when ABC started to take Grey's Anatomy seriously. The change in production values is drastically different, between early episodes and this midseason three episode set. At this point ABC knew they had a hit on their hands and the stories got way bigger in scale. It's a great episode, along with its two bookends. Very cinematic, great writing, fantastic production and direction. The acting was excellent, as it had been throughout the series, up to this point.

My only knock, especially considering the previous episode, is that the three episodes border on a mimicry of the series ER.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode had me on the edge of my feet when dr Grey is unconscious. This episode is shot so well and to sum it up it was one of the best episodes so far.

Riveting. But.
grayf16 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Well, the episode was riveting, of course it was. But I spent the whole time of the first half hour screaming at the screen: You're drowning the star! Get back to that! SO I think it would have been better to move the McDreamy rescue closer to the beginning, and you still could have stretched out all the separate beeper-notifications and all the other subplots without losing anything. DON'T drown the star and meanwhile go do something else. Nobody will care about the something else.

The Alex subplot with the seekers and the pictures and the grief was easily strong enough to be the centerpiece of its own episode, BTW. They wasted that by overshadowing it with Drowning the Star.

Meredith's Life in Danger
ZegMaarJus30 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Meredith, she just got pushed into the water. Izzie says to Vince that she is just an intern, and not a real doctor. Izzie has to drill holes into Rick his head to save his life. Izzie drills into Rick his head. Derek saved Meredith out of the water. Derek resuscitates Meredith. Richard tells Izzie that her probation has ended. Meredith has been brought to the hospital. Richard, Bailey, Burke and Addison are trying to save Meredith her life. Amazing Episode of Grey's Anatomy Season 3, what a great one. Meredith her life is still in danger, will she wake up again and can she be saved?

Slightly better than the previous dumpsterfire
irishboy1419 July 2019
This episode it still filled with melodrama, clichès, the awful child actress and bad special effects. But it was mostly at the hospital which made it more bearable, plus the aftermath was more interesting.

There is some unintensional humor, like in the previous episode. But it's turned up to 11 here because Meredith drowns for a solid 40 minutes, and is fine when she's rescued at the end. Nothing but BS, low stakes, and plot armor.

They jumped the shark...
hbk81219 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
It happened with Desperate Housewives and now Grey's. Grey's Anatomy started off as a successful witty "Hospital" show. I'm not going to lie, I enjoyed it. But just as Desperate Housewives locked that black guy in the basement all season and has everybody falling from high places this season, Grey's Anatomoy showed no better of a story line in this "shocking three part episode"! How much more predictable could the next episode be? Well let's see. Grey wakes up. Now we're back to the daily soap opera drama. Oh yea, there will be a heart to heart moment between Grey and Izzy because Denni told her "It wasn't her time to die". Izzy cries... role credits. Come on writers you can do better than that. This was almost a warning. Hopefully you don't completely jump the shark before next season.

Drowning on dry land...Why would they
blue_lover_blue1515 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I'm gonna tell you know that this does contain a spoiler for people who haven't watched this episode... Why would they kill her? Like she is the main character...the Show is called GREYS anatomy and her name was Meredith GREY. like why ...if anyone recalls on the OC about a year ago when they killed Marissa...now all of a sudden they cancel the show for low ratings..well I'm sorry but if Marissa wasn't dead i think the show would still been on. that's just my opinion....I think that was the dumbest idea ever to do that...Now i don't know what you guys think, i know some people don't like Meredith but i did and thats my opinion... Well i know from the episode that Derek won't be too happy as he was crying.. and now Denny is back? well this will be interesting...but only in Meredith's life.. i guess maybe this episode was good but only if it was really important for the future episodes
