Remedy Entertainment is currently involved in a number of projects. They recently launched a game called Alan Wake 2, which ended up being an incredible critical success. While it grows towards being a commercial success at its own pace, gamers around the world await its Dlc to be revealed and launched. Besides that, they are also working on remakes for Max Payne 1 and 2.
As fans await the recently announced Dlc for Alan Wake 2 to get a trailer, there’s a lot else they have to be hyped about. The above-mentioned Max Payne remakes are two of those things. There’s also a game that would be the sequel to Control, but one thing that fans do not know is going to happen is that all these projects might end up being set in the same universe.

The filmmaking trio known as Rkss has previously brought us the films Turbo Kid and Summer of 84. Their latest is the slasher Wake Up, which had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas yesterday – and we not only have some reactions to the film that came out of that screening, we also have a clip from the film, courtesy of Deadline! You can watch the clip in the embed at the bottom of this article.
Written by Alberto Marini and based on an original idea by Martin Soudan, Wake Up centers on a group of hot-headed Gen Z activists who find themselves brutally hunted after they become trapped in a furniture superstore during an act of environmental protest gone wrong.
The furniture store setting reminds me of an ’80s slasher that deserves to be more popular, Hide and Go Shriek.

IGN continues to drop more Alan Wake 2 clips, with the latest 5-minute gameplay footage seeing Alan Wake meeting up with an old friend.
The clip sees takes place in The Dark Place, a nightmare version of New York, where Alan is currently trapped. He’s not alone, as Alan finds a familiar face in the jacket-wearing, paisley tie-sporting detective Alex Casey, the hero from Wake’s successful crime book series.
Despite being voiced by James McCaffrey and sharing the likeness of Remedy Entertainment’s Creative Director Sam Lake, Alex Casey is not Max Payne (though Max will be getting a revival soon). According to Lake, this version of Casey is “more over-the-top hardboiled” than before. Lake notes that this version of Casey is drawing from the same inspirations and his love for noir as Max Payne did, right down to an outfit “reminiscent of Brad Pitt’s character in the neo-noir film,...

Get ready to delve into The Music of Heatmiser. The Portland band best known as Elliott Smith’s pre-solo career springboard has announced a new rarities compilation arriving October 6th via Third Man Records, and a demo version of the track “Lowlife” is out now.
Heatmiser initially distributed The Music of Heatmiser — then a 6-song cassette — at local record stores and shows to promote the band before they released their 1993 debut LP, Dead Air. According to co-founding singer-guitarist Neil Gust, this longer package — featuring 23 additional demos, live tracks, rare versions, and previously unreleased songs — came together thanks to drummer Tony Lash.
“Tony found a bunch of forgotten recordings and started mixing them and sending them to me,” Gust said in a statement. “We were struck by the freewheeling energy of the band; you could hear how much fun we were having. In 1992 we could barely afford the studio so it...

Developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Game Studios, the video game Alan Wake begins with the narrator quoting a line that was written by Stephen King – and during an interview with Eurogamer, Remedy boss Sam Lake revealed that King only charged them $1 to use that line.
In case you’re not familiar with Alan Wake (as I wasn’t before seeing the article on the Eurogamer website), Eurogamer provides the information: Alan Wake begins with a sequence where we see the title character driving through the lonely countryside, over which we hear him deliver the following lines: “Stephen King once wrote that ‘Nightmares exist outside of logic, and there’s little fun to be had in explanations; they’re antithetical to the poetry of fear.’ In a horror story, the victim keeps asking ‘Why?’ But there can be no explanation, and there shouldn’t be one. The unanswered...

Stephen King‘s a pretty cool guy, if you didn’t know. Not only has the master author set up a program to allow students to use the rights to his novels for just a dollar, but Stephen King had also done the same dollar deal with Remedy Entertainment and Alan Wake.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Remedy’s Sam Lake recently revealed he had “really, really, desperately wanted” to be able to open Alan Wake with a quote from King himself. After all, there were so many references to the famed Maine author in the game, so why not go the extra mile?
Of course, Remedy did get that quote from King, and according to Lake, the developer just had to pay a dollar in order to use it. “It’s my understanding he wanted $1 for us to get the rights to use it. [It was] so very generous.”

Control’s first Dlc, The Foundation, offered a lot of exploration but surprisingly little world-building. Protagonist Jesse Faden had settled into her role as Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, and learned more about the game’s ever-shifting brutalist setting, the Oldest House. Limited by the mostly identical hallways of the House’s undercroft, The Foundation never matched the wonder of finally seeing the sky in the initial campaign or meeting some of the characters for the first time.
Fortunately, the newest venture into the Oldest House, Awe, is a much more substantial expansion, bringing horror and quirky humor to a story that feels a bit constrained by its length and unanswered questions. Awe has some of the same problems with scope as The Foundation, but offers stronger world-building and a miniature return to the game’s expertly balanced tones. Humor and horror effectively collide as Jesse follows a...

It appears that Alan Wake will finally return in Control‘s upcoming Dlc expansion, Awe.
A new trailer for Awe is light on details, but it opens with the sound of typewriter followed by Alan Wake’s voice warning us to “stay in the light.” After a few cinematic flashes of some mostly industrial settings, we’re treated to a few snippets of gameplay from the upcoming Dlc.
While Alan Wake does not appear as a playable character during those gameplay segments, we do catch a brief glimpse of him during the trailer’s closing moments. Interestingly, he’s shown in black and white during that closing and in the logo for Awe. This may just be a stylistic choice, but given the nature of Control‘s inter-dimensional story, that black and white motif may be telling us more than you might initially think.

The war’s just begun, we’re definitely not winning, and your assignment is to make a movie about a tragic defeat that could be the first of many tragic defeats for the U.S.A.. Paramount’s careful morale-building war drama doesn’t exaggerate or over-sentimentalize the brutal fall of a tiny island in the Pacific. John Farrow directs a fine group of actors who knew the film ‘had to say the right things.’ It stands as a fine example of filmmaking reaching for hope in the face of disaster.
The first WW2 Hollywood combat film based on an actual battle is the beautifully made Wake Island. It’s even more beautifully conceived to achieve multiple public relations aims in a time of great crisis. Until 1941 Wake Island had been little more than a stop for Pacific-hopping Pan-American clipper ship airplanes; Japan bombed it a few hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Jeffrey Tambor isn’t giving up on Transparent without a fight — or so it seems, according to a new report from The New York Times.
In the wake of multiple sexual harassment allegations, Tambor on Nov. 19 issued a statement criticizing the “politicalized atmosphere” on the set of the Amazon dramedy, saying, “I don’t see how I can return to Transparent” and signaling his own departure. Now, a representative for the actor tells the Times that Tambor has “no plans to quit,” leaving the series in a state of limbo as the streamer’s investigation into multiple harassment claims marches on.

Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit. I have never been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one. In this country, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

After facing increasing pressure to take some form of action, Netflix has fired The Ranch star Danny Masterson, effective immediately. The actor stands accused of raping four women in the early 2000s; the Los Angeles County District Attorney and Los Angeles Police Department continue to investigate the claims.
“As a result of ongoing discussions, Netflix and the producers have written Danny Masterson out of The Ranch,” a Netflix spokesperson tells TVLine. “[Monday] was his last day on the show, and production will resume in early 2018 without him.”

It really is her turn.
Netflix has opted not to pull the plug on House of Cards in the wake of Kevin Spacey‘s abrupt termination and will instead refocus the series’ sixth and final season around Robin Wright‘s Claire Underwood. In an eerie bit of unintentional foreshadowing, Season 5 ended with Wright’s newly-installed Potus looking into the camera and declaring, “It’s my turn.”
It’s not clear how Spacey’s Frank Underwood will be written out, but all signs point to the character suffering an off screen death.

The minds behind Altered Carbon have really taken reduce, reuse, recycle to heart.
In the teaser trailer for the upcoming Netflix sci-fi drama — which we now know premieres Friday, Feb. 2 — a company called PsychASec informs us that “Centuries ago, mankind discovered a way to transfer consciousness into a new body, making death a mere inconvenience,” and promises that people now can “Live forever — in the body you deserve.”
Altered Carbon is based on Richard K. Morgan’s 2002 novel of the same name. Per the official logline, the dystopian series “is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set...

Think back to the games of 2010, and you may immediately come up with deservedly acclaimed titles like Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2 or Alan Wake. If you're a Nintendo fan, you may fondly recall the magnificent Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's also just possible that you have happy memories of Silicon Studios' joy-filled action adventure, 3D Dot Game Heroes.
A relatively low-key success when compared to 2010's bigger releases, PS3-exclusive 3D Dot Game Heroes was nevertheless one of the most charming little games of the year - a retro-themed fantasy romp which freely heaped elements from classic adventure titles into its basket, while coming up with more than a few ideas of its own.

The 2013 Polaris Prize long list was announced today, June 13, in Montreal, revealing the forty Canadian albums that made it through the first round of the $30,000 critic-voted best Canadian album award.
“This year's Long List is all over the map, but in the best possible way,” said Polaris Music Prize founder Steve Jordan in a press release. “A lot of our jury expressed that this was the most difficult Polaris ballot they’ve ever submitted. The results of this careful and passionate deliberation will make for some truly engaging listening for music."
Indeed the music prize long list is incredibly eclectic, a testament to the diversity of Canadian music, and ranges from the popular electro-rock of Metric and noise-rock of Metz to electric powwow crew A Tribe Called Red and turntablist Kid Koala to the art-pop of The Luyas and the pop-pop of Tegan and Sara. Over on its sister show, "The Secret Circle", things don't seem quite as cheerful, however, as Episode 1.06 is called "Wake". Read on for both of the synopses.
Episode 3.06 "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (10/20/11 Air Date; 8:00-9:00 Pm):
Welcome Back, Seniors — On the first day of their senior year, Elena (Nina Dobrev), Caroline (Candice Accola), Bonnie (Kat Graham), and Matt (Zach Roerig) are still reeling from recent events, while Tyler (Michael Trevino) seems to be enjoying everything a little too much.
Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is annoyed by a new houseguest, and everyone is surprised by the arrival of a new student in Alaric’s (Matt Davis) history class. Matt asks Bonnie for help when he realizes he made a serious mistake.

Get ready to travel deep down underground, as Stormhouse takes residence in an secreted military base. Here, you will find a "horrific nightmare" that turns research personnel into stapled monstrosities of their former selves. The first teaser trailer for Stormhouse is very bloody and the film stars Katherine Flynn (Wake), Martin Delaney (Flags of Our Fathers), and Frankie Fitzgerald (Troy). Take a cautious step into this first teaser trailer for Stormhouse below.
The synopsis for Stormhouse is here:
"In 2002, eight months before the invasion of Iraq, the Military captured and imprisoned a supernatural entity at Stormhouse, a secret underground base.
This film documents the final four days of that experiment. 'Ghost whisperer' Hayley Sands is brought to Stormhouse by the Government to make contact with the captured entity. But her arrival triggers a series of events which lead to the entity's escape, plunging the base into a horrific...

For years, the videogame community has been pushed aside, making way for the far "greater" social interests such as film and/or television. While we were forced to endure acceptance speech after acceptance speech - from individuals so consumed in their own worlds they had forgotten all about reality - we dreamt of bigger and better things...how things have changed.
The Videogame industry is now one of the most powerful - and profitable - in the world, with more and more companies eager to get in on the action. Conversely, this raise in popularity has seen many of these 'elitist' individuals come crawling back, like an infected arm to its unaffected owner. While the film companies and cinematic production team continue to reel off remake after remake, the videogame industry remains awash with originality, with new ideas as fruitful as they ever were.

Chicago – We may be a little late to the wrap-up of the 2010 video game party, but there’s still time to take one final look back at the year that was before we get (more) addicted to “Little Big Planet 2” and “Dead Space 2.” What were the outstanding titles of the last twelve months? And what games will you still be playing in 2011? Chances are, these are the ten titles that won’t be leaving your console anytime soon.
Let’s start with a look back at 2010 as a whole — Was it a good year for video games overall? Mostly. There were at least three games that I believe will have a massive impact on the gaming landscape (“Red Dead Redemption,” “Mass Effect 2,” “Heavy Rain”) and two of the best shooters of all time (“Battlefield: Bad Company 2,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops”) competed for the title of the most notable multiplayer experience of the year.

As far as video games go, 2010 might well be remembered as the year that controversy clashed with quirk. Or the 12 months that downloadable content went from novelty to staple. Or the 52 weeks where indies energized the mainstream. Or the 8765.81 hours of the iDevices' video game ascendancy. No matter how you slice it, it was a cycle of change, excellence and surprise. The games below symbolize all of that and more, depending on how you experienced them.

Romance at a mortuary? Of course that's quirky.
In Wake Bijou Phillips plays an emotionally detached 20-something who finds solace in attending random funerals. Things get complicated when she meets a grieving stranger, Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries), and she inadvertently befriends him. Sure, it's outlandish at times but that's part of its appeal.
Danny Masterson (That 70s Show) has some comical supporting scenes and when paired with soundtracks like "Say A Lot" by Buddy, "Hear Me Sing" by Am, and "Madman" by Coby Brown it's worth a watch.
Available on Netflix.

Chicago – As the video marketplace gets more and more crowded, it becomes even harder for some titles to stand above the competition, especially in the incredibly crowded month of May 2010. It takes confidence to challenge highly anticipated titles like “Red Dead Redemption,” “Alan Wake,” “Super Mario Galaxy 2,” and “ModNation Racers” for gamer dollars.
“Lost Planet 2” should have been one of those “most anticipated” titles but early buzz started to hint that something was wrong. While there are enough things that work about the game to warrant a look, the buzz was right in that it’s only worth your time after you’ve played the vastly superior titles also released this month.
Video Game Rating: 3.0/5.0
“Lost Planet 2” is all about size — creatures so big that you could be climbing on them before you realize it and weapons so enormous that they not only need two hands but sometimes a friend to help you carry them.

Is exploring the frontier in Red Dead Redemption growing wearisome? Did you already collect all 120 stars in Super Mario Galaxy 2? Are you finished plowing through the noir narrative of Alan Wake? Well, then Best Buy is here to help.
From May 30th to June 5th, Best Buy will discount the recently released racer Split/Second. For just $39.99, Xbox 360 and PS3 users can purchase the Black Rock Studio game and also have exclusive access to three downloadable Best Buy vehicles.
This game is seriously cruising under the radar right now with the launch of both Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2 still on everyone’s mind. Our own Jeff Schille awarded Split/Second 4.5 out of 5 stars and claimed, “The production values are virtually unparalleled, the experience is truly unique, and the gameplay is a huge amount of fun.”

It stars Michael Stahl-David ("The Black Donnellys"), Kelli Garner ("Lars and the Real Girl"), Jaime King ("The Class"), Keir O'Donnell ("Sons of Anarchy"), Sebastian Sozzi ("Choke"), Mehcad Brooks ("The Deep End," "True Blood"), Anne Son ("Wake"), Daniella Alonso ("Friday Night Lights") and Julian Morris ("24," "ER"). "My Generation" was created and written by Noah Hawley ("The Unusuals," "Bones"), who is also an executive producer.
What a difference ten years can make. In 2000, a documentary crew follows a disparate group of high schoolers from Greenbelt High School in Austin, TX as they prepare for graduation, then revisits these former classmates ten years later as they return home to rediscover that just because they're not where they planned doesn't mean they're not right where they need to be.

Have you ever seen a movie that left no impression on you at all? Something not good enough to enjoy but not bad enough to bother complaining about? Director Ellie Kanner’s Wake is one of those movies that you’ll quickly forget about and never mention again. There is nothing interesting or memorable about this film at all.
The first scene starts out rather promising, with our leading lady Carys (Bijou Phillips) laid out on a slab at a funeral home, while the mortician makes up her face. She’s not dead. She just likes to lie there while her infatuated friend Shane (Danny Masterson) touches her up with his undertaking skills. She asks him about upcoming wakes and funerals because she likes to attend them.
At this point, you may be thinking that you’re in for an enjoyably morbid comedy about someone obsessed with death, such as...

Ride With The Devil (Criterion) Ang Lee’s revisionist take on the Civil War is awash in moral ambiguity, along with some stunning cinematography, production design, and fine performances. Set during the Kansas-Missouri border war, Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich star as two friends who join up with the Confederate-sympathizing Bushwhackers, finding an odd ally in a former slave (Jeffrey Wright). While it’s fascinating to see America’s bloodiest conflict through the eyes of a foreigner, thereby allowing much of the previously mentioned ambiguity a certain latitude, the film never loses the bad taste it leaves for one simple reason: it asks us, the audience, to side with not just the Confederates, but some of the lowest trash that made up the dregs, and the fringes, of the movement. Big points for audacity, but snake eyes on the story itself. Singer Jewel is impressive in her film debut.

Hold your horses! Rockstar Games’ upcoming western themed sandbox title Red Dead Redemption has been delayed again. But before you get up-in-arms about the situation you’ll be glad to hear that it’s only been pushed back a couple of weeks to May 18th (21st in Europe) – you can put the pitchforks down now.
The new date was announced via the official Rockstar blog, where they promised that this would be the final release date. They also added:
“We at Rockstar have always prided ourselves on the uncompromising quality of our games – and will always opt to take a bit longer to polish and fine-tune a game to be as perfect as possible when we think it necessary. With Red Dead Redemption, we felt that these extra few weeks will make a big difference in helping us deliver you an experience beyond your expectations. Thanks for your patience. We...

Update – Special thanks to Boro of the ComingSoon Boards for pointing out a very important game I left off of here. My fault.
I’m actually really thankful the great Erik Buckman has allowed me to take the reigns of the gaming section ’round these here parts. Truth be told, if I thought I could handle it, I’d want to learn to program games and do that. Alas, I have a passion in film and am pursuing a directing career, while in the meantime covering two of the things I love most: movies and video games.
Today we’ll focus on the gaming side of things, and after a stellar 2009 for the medium, 2010 looks like it’s going to be even better, especially if you own a PS3. After a year that saw a price drop, increase in Blu-ray, Uncharted 2, Demon’s Souls, and Killzone 2, Sony continues to pursue...

Space. Ever think that one day we'll be cruising around the galaxy as simply as we do now our highways? One thing's for sure ... the aliens out there seem to be a lot more dangerous than the Border-crossers here!
The Hollywood Reporter got word today that both Louise Linton and Sean Patrick Flanery (pictured) have landed roles in the upcoming sci-fi/horror flick Scavengers.
The film focuses on crews of space scavengers competing for supplies, energy, and treasure. When the crew of the Revelator, led by Emerson (Linton), comes across the alien-created Chaos Generator, they must fight to keep it out of the hands of her former shipmate, the sinister Captain Jekel (Flanery).
Never trust Anyone named Jekel.
The film will be the directorial debut of production designer Travis Nicholas Zariwny ("Wake"). James Rosenthal ("Little Fish, Strange Pond") is producing.
Production on the low-budget film begins today.
