Travis Kelce continues his push into Hollywood, scoring a role in Ryan Murphy’s FX horror series Grotesquerie.
Grotesquerie star Niecy Nash-Betts confirmed Kelce’s involvement in the show in an Instagram video posted on Tuesday. Although details on the show are scant, Nash-Betts along with Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville are among the announced castmembers.
No details have been revealed on what role Kelce will be playing. In February, Murphy dropped a teaser for a new series titled Grotesquerie in an Instagram post. The cryptic teaser features Nash-Betts’ voice, sounding very disturbed about a crime scene.
Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce, who is having something of a pop culture moment due to his relationship with Taylor Swift and his team winning the most recent Super Bowl, has been increasingly upping his off field entertainment work and even dabbling in the dramatic arts. Travis Kelce is following in the footsteps of Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan by hosting a game show that features celebrities.
With that recent news, Strahan seems ready to assist Kelce in preparing him to host the new game show.
Kelce is reportedly adding that to his accomplishments, which include winning several Super Bowl rings with the Kansas City Chiefs, appearing on Saturday Night Live, and dating Taylor Swift.
After spending his career with just one team, the New York Giants, Strahan moved into various business ventures and television projects.
Those TV gigs include his work as an analyst on Fox NFL Sunday, co-anchor on ABC’s Good Morning America, and host of ABC’s rebooted The $100,000 Pyramid.
With that experience in hosting, he might be able to provide valuable insight to Kelce for his upcoming gig.

Last April, Jason Kelce entered the NFL’s West Coast media hub in Inglewood, California (it’s right next door to SoFi Stadium), with trepidation. In an otherwise nondescript conference room, Kelce talked with those sitting with him about the difficulties that NFL stars can have after they retire from the game, an attendee recalls.
Kelce was in Los Angeles to attend the NFL’s broadcast boot camp, which gives players a chance to hone their skills for TV, radio, podcasts and other mediums.
“So many guys are interested in, ‘How can I stay in football?’ ‘I think I’d be good on TV, but I’m not really sure,’ ” Tracy Perlman, the NFL’s senior vp player operations, told The Hollywood Reporter at the time about the boot camp. “So this gives them the opportunity to learn about it and understand the commitment it takes, and it gives them the reps to figure out,...

Travis Kelce has made no secret of his interest in an off-field career when he retire from the NFL.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is now in talks to host his first game show – a reboot of Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? for Amazon.
Sources told Deadline that there are conversations but a deal is not yet closed. This could also depend on his availability given that he appears ready to suit up for the Super Bowl champions for another seasons – a “threepeat” if you like.
Kelce previously hosted dating show Catching Kelce for the USA Network, long before he got together with Taylor Swift.
It would mark the latest reboot of the format, which came from Mark Burnett, and aired on Fox between 2007 and 2009 and again in 2015. There was also a syndicated version and a reboot on Nickelodeon, hosted by John Cena, in 2019.
The news was broken by Perez Hilton.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is in discussions to host a celebrity-focused reboot of the long-running game show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” that would stream via Amazon Prime Video, according to two people familiar with the matter. The deal, if signed, would represent the football great’s latest move toward general entertainment after appearances on “Saturday Night Live,” the reality series “Catching Kelce” and a podcast he hosts with his brother, Jason.
Amazon Prime Video declined to make executives available for comment, and CAA, the agency that represents Kelce, could not be reached for immediate comment. The idea of showrunners such as The White Lotus’ Mike White and Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan writing entire series of television by themselves was a much-debated topic of conversation during the WGA’s long summer strike.
After the WGA scored minimum staffing requirements in its deal with the AMPTP, it emerged that these solo scribes will be able to keep ploughing on, alone.
As the 2023 WGA – AMPTP Mba puts it, “This Paragraph M. does not apply when a single writer or team of writers is employed to write all episodes.”
It comes as the deal requires for shows with six or fewer episodes, studios must hire at least three writers and three writer/producers. For shows with between seven and 12 episodes, the minimum is now five writers and three writer/producers and for shows with more than 13 episodes, there must be at least six writers and three writer/producers.

Before being tapped to oversee all content across Roku Media, David Eilenberg got his start in the industry as a writer and producer for reality TV and game shows.
“I spent quite some time as a writer on a game show called ‘The Weakest Link’ and that was really my entry point into working in production full time,” he told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View.
“That was an interesting point in the evolution of broadcast because it was at the beginning of really the first reality boom,” he continued. “And so they started fishing for game show people to come into certain types of reality show producing, because at that point, in one way or another, most of the big reality shows were games and so they needed people who could think in that way.”

HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order for “Peacemaker,” a spinoff from the upcoming “Suicide Squad” film. John Cena will play the title role, reprising his role from the film. The film’s writer and director, James Gunn, will also write the series and direct multiple episodes, including the pilot.
HBO Max has ordered eight episodes of the show based on the DC Comics character, which is described as an action adventure comedy. The exact plot of the series is being kept under wraps, but it is said it will explore the origins of Peacemaker, a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. Production is slated to begin in early 2021, prior to Gunn starting work on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” “The Suicide Squad” is set to be released in theaters Aug. 6, 2021.

A few weeks ago, WWE superstar John Cena earned a Daytime Emmy nomination: Best Game Show as a producer of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” on Nickelodeon, which he also hosts. And pretty soon he could be joined by a couple other sports entertainment alums: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin are both on the ballot for Best Reality Host.
Johnson is a contender for “The Titan Games,” NBC’s athletic competition series in which men and women go through endurance challenges in the hopes of winning a $100,000 grand prize. The show was first eligible last year, and though it wasn’t nominated, it’s the kind of physical competition that academy members might gravitate towards having nominated “American Ninja Warrior” for the last four years in a row. And the current season started airing in May, so it would have been fresh in mind...

If someone asked you what recent pro wrestling superstar would probably win a major showbiz award first, your first thought might be Dwayne Johnson, who set aside his career as The Rock to become a movie star, arguably the most successful crossover ever from the WWE. But John Cena could actually beat him to the punch — or the body slam, as the case may be. He’s nominated for Best Game Show at the Daytime Emmys as an executive producer of Nickelodeon’s “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,” which he also hosts.
A prime time version of “5th Grader” began in 2007 with comedian Jeff Foxworthy as host. It tested adults to see if they could answer questions taken from elementary school textbooks. Eventually the show transitioned to a daytime syndicated format. But it was off the air for several years before it was revived on the kids’ cable channel in 2019 headlined by Cena.

Things started off so well on Chicago Med Season 2 Episode 14.
Well, for the audience anyway. A massive pileup and a shortage of both personnel and supplies sucked for the residents of #OneChicago. Unfortunately for everyone, things went downhill from there.
Don't get me wrong, there was a lot to love about "Cold Front." Getting the docs out into the city and working on scene was excellent. The cases were connected and strong. But then the entire Ed team seemed to suffer from collective stupidity.
Excuse me while I vent; I'll get to raving about everything that was great in just a minute.
In a blizzard situation, with a mass casualty event, I'm pretty sure you don't have to be Smarter Than A Fifth Grader to immediately start setting up a blood drive. I mean, these people all have had medical training, right?

The “Hollywood Game Night” season finale and its lead-in “America’s Got Talent” handed NBC its usual summer Tuesday victory last night. CBS finished second with just a rerun of “NCIS” and an original “Zoo” episode. The Spanish-language nets tied for third in the key 18-49 demographic as ABC’s soft season of “Extreme Weight Loss” came to a sad ending. Fox tied for fifth with ABC in the main demo as “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader’s” rating rose in its own season finale. Fast National ratings for Tuesday, July 7, 2015. "America's Got Talent" and a decent return for "Hollywood Game Night" helped NBC cruise to Tuesday night victory overall and crush the competition in the key demographic. The night's other notable was very solid Week 2 retention for CBS' "Zoo," which was down only 0.1 in the key demo and a few hundred-thousand viewers overall. Let's get to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 2.0 rating for Tuesday night, dominating in the key demographic. CBS was a distant second with a 0.9 key demo rating, followed by ABC's 0.6 key demo rating and the 0.5 key demo rating for Fox. The CW averaged a 0.4 key demo rating for the night, a number that looks to be preemption-inflated. Overall, NBC averaged an estimated 8.71 million viewers and a 5.1 rating/9 share for Tuesday primetime. CBS was a solid second with nearly 7 million viewers and a 4.6/8 for the night. ABC's 2.27 million viewers...

Fox’s “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” landed the network in a fifth-place tie with Telemundo on Tuesday, when the Jeff Foxworthy show was coupled with a “World’s Funniest” special. NBC easily climbed to the top of the heap with “America’s Got Talent.” NBC was first in ratings with a 2.2 rating/8 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 8.9 million, according to preliminary numbers. At 8 p.m., “Talent” scored a 2.5/9 and 10.9 million viewers — both highs on the night. “I Can Do That” at 10 received a 1.4/5 and 5.1...

The primary purpose of the game show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” which returns to Fox on May 26, seems to be to trot out grown-up contestants to provide an answer to that title question that’s almost always “Well, no.” Still, the Jeff Foxworthy-hosted show doesn’t have a lock on memorably embarrassing onscreen moments. Real comedy still happens on late night, we can prove it. If you like Conan comedy gold, Fallon friendliness, cutesy Corden, list-making Letterman, kneedy Kimmel, and all the rest, I hope you’ll enjoy this column too.
Last night was David Letterman’s last time ever hosting a late night program. Other late night hosts gave thanks, and Dave looked back at some favorite memories, with music by the Foo Fighters. If you can gauge which other hosts/networks like Dave the most based on who begged the audience to switch over to CBS, it’s Kimmel and Conan. Kimmel didn’t even air a live show last night, and Conan got Patton Oswalt to make enough references to Halloween 3 and The Andromeda Strain that everyone was forced to tune out.
Late Show with David Letterman
Dave’s final entrance. Dave wishes Stephen Colbert all the best. The show will be in excellent hands.

This Week in TV News is a compliment to the Week in Review feature, which will now be focused on film news.
AMC has guaranteed two seasons to the prequel companion series of The Walking Dead, as per THR. The announcement was made earlier this week, and comes as somewhat unsurprising news. The Walking Dead continues to be one of the channel’s highest rated shows, with its popularity showing no signs of waning as the show’s fifth season rolls along. In addition, AMC has found similar commercial and critical success with Better Call Saul, its new series that is itself a spinoff of Breaking Bad.
There’s no set title for the series as of yet, and working titles have included Fear The Walking Dead and Cobalt. The first season, much like the show that spawned this spinoff, will consist of six episodes, with creator Robert Kirkman working...

This newly announced event game show on ABC sounds a bit tough—and more than a little mysterious.
ABC has made a direct-to-series order for 500 Questions, a new event game show from executive producer Mark Burnett and Warner Bros. unscripted and alternative television president President Mike Darnell. Burnett and Darnell previously worked together on Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?
Details about the show are scarce, but according to the press release, the show will feature “contestants in a pressure-packed, incredibly intense environment.” Hopefully, it won’t be as much pressure as it will be for the contestants on Sex Box.

Watch: New Trailer For 'Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom' Brings The Struggle For Freedom To Big Screen
Based on an inspiring true story, led in front of the camera by Idris Elba and guided behind the camera by Justin Chadwick ("The Fifth Grader"), it would seem that "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" would tick all the Oscar bait boxes with ease. And yet, ready to hit theaters next week, buzz is rather non-existent for the rigorously respectful film. After trying a U2 driven spot, and one blazin' with hip hop beatz, a more traditional trailer (still with a bit of U2) has been unveiled and yeah, it looks exactly as is. Idris Elba plays the South African leader in a movie that looks like it'll encapsulate his story quite well, but what's missing is any kind of edge. Not that this movie needs to amped up and turned on its head, but perhaps it would've been better delivered with a bit of vitality instead of sheer reverence for the story being told.
