Shawna Trpcic, an Emmy-nominated costume designer best known for her work on several Star Wars series on Disney+ and her collaborations with Joss Whedon, died October 4, her agency Gersh and Lucasfilm confirmed. She was 56. A cause of death was not provided but Trpcic’s passing was unexpected; as recently as three days ago she was chronicling a desert trip on Instagram.
Born in Artesia, CA, Trpcic was always into science fiction and comic books. She attended Otis College of Art and Design for fashion where, in her senior year, she worked on Bob Mackie’s team.
Trpcic got her start illustrating for Albert Wolsky on the Oscar-winning film Bugsy and then became his assistant on Barry Levinson’s film Toys. She has build an impressive body of work since, becoming one of Hollywood’s pre-eminent science fiction costume designers. Trpcic described costume design as “creating fine art for the body...

Exclusive: Showtime is keeping its Yellowjackets team intact.
The network has struck an overall deal with showrunner Jonathan Lisco. The move will see Lisco continue to serve as executive producer, writer and showrunner on the hit series, alongside creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, while also developing new projects.
The move comes after it also locked up married couple Lyle and Nickerson to a similar deal last year.
Yellowjackets is a breakout hit for the network and one of the few that is not based on existing IP. The season two premiere delivered Showtime‘s best debut for a second installment that the network has seen in more than 10 years.
That’s before we’ve even got to the fun part with episode two, Edible Complex, which features the first full-blown cannibalism episode of the show and was written by Lisco.

Tawny Cypress (Unforgettable) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers) have been cast as series regulars in Showtime’s drama pilot Yellowjackets, from writers Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson (Narcos), Entertainment One and studio-based producer Drew Comins. The pilot, co-produced by eOne and Showtime, goes into production in Los Angeles this fall.
Written by Lyle and Nickerson, Yellowjackets is equal parts survival epic, horror story and coming-of-age drama and relates the narrative of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.

AMC may have its hands full with such popular shows like “The Walking Dead,” “Better Call Saul,” and most recently, the comic-book smash “Preacher,” but there’s one show in its arsenal that stands as the underdog of the bunch. The series in question? “Halt and Catch Fire,” the ’80s period drama about the personal computer revolution in Silicon Prairie of Texas. The series stars Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies”), Scoot McNairy (“Argo”), Mackenzie Davis (“The Martian”), Kerry Bishé (“Scrubs”), Toby Huss (“Carnivàle”), and Aleksa Palladino (“Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead”). Watch two exclusive promos for the new season below.

The family that slays together stays together" — it's a phrase might as well be inscribed in Latin on the Cody clan's crest. Three generations of burglars and thieves come together under one roof on TNT's rough-hewn new drama Animal Kingdom (an Americanized adaptation of the 2010 Australian crime thriller) and precious little is off-limits: the kids blow lines of coke in front of their elders, the oldest son delivers an extended angry tirade to his relatives while hanging dong, and if someone gets bumped off during a messy jewel heist, you...

I like talking to the creative people who have jobs that folks outside of the industry bubble don't necessarily understand. Last month, for example, I talked with Michael Spiller about what it means to be a directing producer on "The Mindy Project." Jonathan Lisco has a more glamorous and identifiable job. He is, after all, the showrunner on AMC's new drama "Halt and Catch Fire" and we've all learned to revere the showrunner. However, Lisco didn't create "Halt and Catch Fire." The '80s-set computer drama was created by Chris Cantwell and Chris Rogers, but The Chrises don't have a lengthy TV background, so Lisco was brought in as writer, executive producer and showrunner for the first season as part of an overall deal he signed with AMC. Lisco has been a creator -- Fox's "K-Ville" was the first series to shoot in New Orleans after Katrina -- but his...

Stop us if this sounds familiar. But following in the footsteps of movies turning into TV shows this year including, "The Kids Are All Right," "The Transporter," "The Lincoln Lawyer," "Anger Management," "Zombieland," "Universal Soldier" and more, yet another film is headed to the small screen. And this one is a pretty inspired choice. The excellent, searing Aussie crime family drama "Animal Kingdom" will be headed to Showtime for a brand new series, Deadline reports. Oddly enough, it doesn't seem like any of the filmmakers are actually involved, which is a bit of a bummer, but John Wells ("Southland," "Mildred Pierce") and Jonathan Lisco ("Southland," "K-Ville") are executive producing the series, with the latter taking on writing duties. If somehow you missed the film directed by David Michod (and you should fix that error as soon as possible), the film was inspired...

While Monroe wrestles with restraining his wild side, it’s up to Nick to keep everything from going up in flames. Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Sasha Roiz and Reggie Lee also star. There are a few sneak peeks at THR and Dread Central. Spoiler TV has the promotional stills. Here is the teaser:

Let's start the weekly round-up with Grimm.
Grimm's ratings dropped a little this week, but the show still won the 18-49 demo in its timeslot, finishing ahead of CSI: NY, Fringe and Supernatural, and rising by a full frakking ratings point (1.8) after Chuck (0.8). Wake up, Chuck.
Hitfix visited the set in Portland recently and posted a lengthy report. Here is a snippet:
Sasha Roiz on how his character will develop later in the series: "I’m not a Grimm descendent, but I'm a descendent of a long line that dates back just as Grimm does and we have a bit of a history and a past, so my line is a royal line and that will slowly unfold throughout the series."Collider has a longer interview with Sasha and Reggie Lee (more at the link):
It’s nice to see your character – like the main character – has the duality.

Somewhere between his stints on the police procedural and legal drama television series K-Ville and Law & Order, Anthony Anderson found time to take take off his badge and take on the role of a recently laid off 30-something impersonating a four-year-old African adoptee for director Rob Pearlstein’s online series Matumbo Goldberg. The best part about the way Anderson plays the character is he makes sure Mark (the recently laid off 30-something) doesn't act the part. Mark is supposed to pretend he’s Matumbo, who’s supposed to be an infant Kenyan orphan, but aside from sporting a pair of jammies and chillin’ in a bed with a bed rail and in a bedroom with Thomas the Tank Engine decals, he acts like your average American man taking advantage of all the comforts better-off family members can provide. The last time these two shared screen credits was in the Tarantino-scripted, Tony Scott-directed masterpiece that is True Romance.
Soon we’ll get to see Christopher Walken and Christian Slater together again as they join forces in “The Power of Few” for Arclight Films. The film will also feature Q’orianka Kilcher (Terrence Malick’s The New World) as a woman who in agreeing to transport a mystery package gets caught up in a globe-spanning plot that could (ominous low-pitched voice) “threaten the whole world”.
We don’t know yet the identity of the characters that Walken and Slater will play, though I would hazard a guess that Walken will play the villain. Anthony Anderson (K-Ville, Transformers) and Franke Potente (Run, Lola, Run and The Bourne Identity) are also on board. Leone Marucci will direct from his own script.
Shooting is due to kick off in New Orleans later this month.

Variety tell us that a new ensemble drama is being put together, about the intertwining lives of various La residents and their assorted quests for redemption. In “Lives of the Saints”, apparently, they find forgiveness in the most unlikely of places.
To be honest, this sounds a little clichéd and familiar. Crash provided us with an La ensemble a while ago and before that both Magnolia and Short Cuts have covered the whole “intertwining damaged lives in La” thing, in both cases with extraordinary critical and artistic success.
So far, we have Meg Ryan, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, John Lithgow, Joe Anderson (Control, Across the Universe), Anthony Anderson (Transformers, The Departed, K-Ville) and Kat Dennings (The 40-year old Virgin, The House Bunny) confirmed on board, with Chris Rossi writing and directing.
Filming is due to start mid-November and of course it is far too early to say how the film will turn out.

This week, it’s Jack and Dan versus Satan.
Okay, not really, but in this episode they do take on a corrupt senator played by Ray Wise, who also played the Devil in The CW’s short-lived Reaper.
Lieutenant Ruiz assign the two of them the “Tech Bandit” case, what Jack calls “one of the top thieves of the last decade.” Since Dan is more or less technologically retarded, he’s not particularly impressed – nor does he like the next part, where Ruiz tells them that a forensics expert from Houston has been brought in to take the case (complete with some film school student shooting a documentary about him) and they’ll really just there to help him. “This may be the week that I’m kicked off the force,” Dan says after meeting Dr. Laviolette (Star Trek: Voyager‘s Ethan Phillips). One can’t exactly blame him, as...

The Chase is almost on. On September 20, NBC debuts the new fugitive-hunting drama (check out my review of the pilot episode here). In anticipation of premiere day, we chatted with series stars Kelli Giddish and Cole Hauser, as well as creator and executive producer Jennifer Johnson, about the show, the influences of their past work, and bringing on another crime show in this day and age.
Jennifer, coming off of Cold Case, you’d know better than anyone that we have a ton of crime dramas on the air today. What made you want to return to that genre to create Chase, and how do you differentiate it from all the other series on the air?
Jennifer Johnson: I would call this one visceral. Basically when I was approached by Bruckheimer TV to do this the way I latched on to the idea was that I had a family...

Yes, Virginia, it’s another Jerry Bruckheimer show.
I can’t even begin to list all the TV series that Bruckheimer has been involved with since CSI. I can tell you that some were good (Cold Case, Without A Trace when it wasn’t digressing into who was sleeping with whom) and some weren’t (The Forgotten was quickly just that). His latest entry is Chase (September 20), which drops squarely into the oversaturated landscape of TV crime shows as the third show to feature U.S. Marshals (following In Plain Sight and Justified). These U.S. Marshals are tasked with fugitive recovery, going from their Dallas home base to anywhere in the country in order to bring down the worst offenders, since doing a show about chasing down bail-jumpers or deadbeat parents would be beyond the scope of dramatic television.

Chase is the newest action show from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and it's set to premiere on September 20 at 10:00 p.m. NBC has released two sneak peeks from the pilot episode. We also have a promo for you below.
From Emmy Award-winning executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer ("CSI" franchise, "The Amazing Race," "Pirates of the Caribbean") and executive producer Jennifer Johnson ("Cold Case," "Reunion," "Lost"), "Chase" is a lightning-fast drama that drops viewers smack into the middle of a game of cat-and-mouse as a team of U.S. Marshals hunts down America's most dangerous fugitives.
Kelli Giddish ("Past Life") stars as U.S. Marshal Annie Frost, a cowboy boot-wearing deputy whose sharp mind and unique Texas upbringing help her track down violent criminals on the run. Starring as the members of Frost's elite team are Cole Hauser ("K-Ville") as Jimmy Godfrey, an East Texas kid who never grew up and is a...

TMZ has leaked the cast reel for K-Town, a so-called “Asian Jersey Shore” set in La’s Koreatown (not a reboot of Fox’s short-lived Anthony Anderson cop show K-Ville). The show hasn’t been picked up by a network yet, which simultaneously improves and deflates my opinion of network executives. Either way, it’s a progressive step forward for television to include some other races in its ongoing exploitation of drunk D-bags for our self-aware, superior-feeling amusement. The white-hot HBO series "True Blood" has exploded into the pop-culture arena over the past two years, fueling the international vampire obsession. But unlike its "Twilight" counterpart, "True Blood" isn't afraid to show the sizzlingly sexy and graphically violent, placing it at the decidedly grown-up end of the blood-sucking spectrum. Since the beginning of the series, actor Mariana Klaveno has been in some of the grisliest and steamiest scenes of them all—as Lorena, the vampire who turned Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) into Vampire Bill during the Civil War and who continues to fight with Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) for his love. The role has required Klaveno, whose brooding, feline beauty seems to effortlessly morph from charming to cruel in a flash, to flesh out a character who relishes in the bloodsport of being a vampire, unlike Bill. And though she's a true villain in the fictional Southern setting of Bon Temps,...

I used to watch the old TV version of Nikita and liked it, but I really have no current opinion one way or the other about this remake (except, perhaps, resenting it for pushing Supernatural to Fridays). On the other hand, I have to acknowledge the fact that Maggie Q. looks great. Seriously. This new show will begin airing on Thursday nights at 9:00 p.m. (see the CW's full fall schedule) in the fall.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fifth and final one announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the list over on The CW.
While the "Melrose Place" remake didn't work and the Mischa Barton-led "The Beautiful Life" proved an utter disaster that scored the first axing of the season, the smallest and newest of the networks managed to generate a solid hit for itself with "The Vampire Diaries" and a modest hit in "Life Unexpected" over these past twelve months.
The success was needed as its various dramas like "90210," "One Tree Hill," "Gossip Girl" and "Supernatural" saw dips, while the move of "Smallville" to Friday nights has almost halved its regular audience. Yet most of the shows have scored better reviews this past season and there's a sense that the network may finally be through its worst growing pains.

Ahead of its official Upfronts presentation on Thursday, the CW has annouced that they will be making two surprise renewals for bubble shows: veteran One Tree Hill and freshman drama, Life Unexpected. However, I believe that both of them will only get half-seasons (likely 12 – 13 episodes), which means that they would be held off until midseason to premiere. All of the other CW shows, including Gossip Girl, 90210, Smallville, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and America's Next Top Model are also rewnewed.
The recently revamped Melrose Place, however, is not long for this world. The CW has dropped the new show from its line-up.
As of now, we only know of two new shows that will be picked up by the network: the new Nikita and Hellcats. The question, of course, is of timing. Supernatural fans might start panicking when they hear the rumor that the show might be airing on Fridays now,...

"Body of Proof" is joining the ABC fall lineup. It was previously known as "Body of Evidence" and stars Dana Delany ("Desperate Housewives") as a neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner whose expertise helps solve murder cases.
Chris Murphey wrote the pilot, and "CSI: Miami" veteran Sunil Nayar is joining the show as an executive producer. The cast also includes Jeri Ryan ("Leverage," "Shark"), John Carroll Lynch ("K-Ville," "Close to Home"), Nicholas Bishop ("Past Life"), Geoffrey Arend ("Trust Me") and Wendell Middlebrooks ("Scrubs").
Dr. Megan Hunt (Delany) was in a class of her own, a brilliant neurosurgeon at the top of her game. But her world is turned upside down when a devastating car accident puts an end to her time in the operating room. Megan resumes her career as a medical examiner, determined to solve the puzzle of who or what killed the victims. Her instincts are sharp, but she's developed a reputation...

ABC is keeping pace with NBC for the "most new shows ordered" title at the 2010 upfronts, adding two more dramas to its roster for 2010-11.
The latest pickups, according to several reports, are a crime show called "Body of Proof" and the Shonda Rhimes-produced "Off the Map," about doctors working in a remote South American clinic. They join comedies "Happy Endings," "Mr. Sunshine" and "Better Together" and dramas "No Ordinary Family," "My Generation" and "Detroit 187" -- bringing ABC's pickup total to nine series, which is just behind NBC's 11.
(Fox has picked up five shows so far, and CBS and The CW will probably each add three or four.)
"Body of Proof" (previously known as "Body of Evidence") stars Dana Delany ("Desperate Housewives") as a neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner whose expertise helps solve murder cases. Chris Murphey wrote the pilot, and "CSI: Miami" veteran Sunil Nayar is joining the show as an executive producer.
