Running out of air
Tweekums20 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
After the previous stand-alone episode we have one that has three main plot strands; two stand-alone and one which advances the main plot. In the first and most dramatic of the stories Chief Tyrol and Cally get trapped when the damaged airlock they are repairing develops a leak causing the inner doors to be sealed; while that are trapped inside those trying to come up with a rescue plan must hurry as the temperature is dropping fast and they only have enough air to survive for half an hour. In the second story Admiral Adama is reminiscing about his wife as it would have been their anniversary; as the episode progresses we learn theirs was not a happy marriage. In the third and ultimately most important plot strand President Roslin asks Adama if Apollo would be able to help with Baltar's trial; he isn't keen at first but although nothing is decided by the end of the episode it does look as if he will take on the job.

This episode was certainly and improvement on the one before; while the story of Adama's marriage wasn't one of the best the problems encountered by Chief Tyrol and his wife were genuinely gripping; knowing this shows propensity for killing off major characters I wasn't sure if both of them would make it first time I watched this episode; the tension was improved by the fine acting by Aaron Douglas and Nicki Clyne who were great in their scenes together. The plot involving Apollo was fairly minor this week but I'm sure it will develop into something important as the episodes pass and Baltar's trial approaches.

Why don't they just fix the leak from outside the ship?

These "bottle" episodes are really hit or miss for me, and this was a huge miss. I know this show is all about character development, but I definitely don't give a crap about Adama's ex-wife. Please move on to the good stuff soon.
