Not a horror movie
aqos-120 July 2009
This was a movie about infidelity and revenge. A twin with the "twin" connection senses that something is wrong with her sister. This movie took forever to establish the plot. A plot that has been done many times. The acting was lousy for the most part. Once the plot comes together, the movie ends. Laura and Ashley are twins that live with an abusive father. The father seems to favor Ashley, so Laura gets the blame for everything. There is a promise made that the girls would never be apart, but as they grow up, their lives go in different directions. Ashley gets a job in a diner where she meets Barry, a married man. Of course no good can come of this. The fact that Barry had tinnitus was a poor excuse for a way to track him down. I kept waiting for this movie to get better and for there to be some resolution somewhere, but it never happened.

Horrible
Guffinator200317 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
So the wife and I just finished it despite several threats from both of us to turn it off. For the most part boredom was the worst part of this movie, there was just very little excitement. The acting was atrocious, to the point where we actually chuckled several times during some of the worse scenes (the church lady for example). The dead sister was using paranormal means to contact her living twin, although rather then send useful information she focused on trying to scare the hell out of her instead which looked a lot like The Ring. Rather then get the police involved -- which I'm sure those earplugs she found would have DNA all over them -- she instead devises a horrible plan to 'get' the man who covered up the accidental death of her sister. I call it a horrible plan because in the end she allows him to kill her too, which the movie then fades to black. Bad dialog, bad acting, bad ending.

Not even as good as tagline sounds
JAWheat41127 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
OK ...I watch a lot of bad movies. I pride myself on that fact. many times there are some gems in the B rated bombs. But this movie is one of the worst I have watched. I like a good horror movie...but one with a plot of and sense of movement. The opening scenes seemed pretty good. Decent music and imagery. Then it goes down hill from there. One of the main characters has a disability (Ringing in the Ears called Tinnitus). Now this will in turn threaten to reveal his secret. They made that too much of a focus of the movie. So what he has ringing in his ears and accidentally left an ear plug somewhere where that he shouldn't have been. No need to keep bringing it up. So this guy is having an affair with this girl and in a motel she falls and hits her head on the end table. So instead of letting everyone know of his affair he decides to dump the body. Now her twin sister is trying to find out where she is and what happened to her. Well after seeing her sister over and over again (as a zombie like ghost) and even pointing directly to the location of the body she finally finds her. Now the body is recovered and she is set out to deal with the one and only suspect that killed her. Bad thing is that she didn't have much of a plan. Only to pretend to be her twin and met the guy where the body was dumped. The idiot didn't even believe he killed her. So all is revealed there and even though she had a gun....somehow she manages to get herself strangled. So the last scenes of the movie are of the "spirits" of her and her twin walking out of the water. So you mean to tell me in this movie the bad guy wins. And not one but two innocent people die.

Good things about the movie: imagery

Bad things about the movie: music sound effects long and drawn out misdirection of plot low grade acting from some not all actors

Kill me before the sequel.
redback35127 September 2009
Warning: Spoilers
For a film with so much promise it was disappointing, thinly plotted and the acting ranging between horrendous and unbelievable. The plot had more holes in it than swiss cheese and it's the worst clichéd ending I've seen in a movie for some time. The final scene would have ripped my heart out, if the entire movie hadn't been so painful to begin with. I was numb! From the very first scene - one was left wondering, if the sister was trying to reach out to her twin for help, or simply scare her to death which would have been better for the audience and saved us from two hours of the worst acting I've seen to date. It was a horror in the true sense of the word.

cliché imitation crap
electricrain7 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This movie isn't worth the film it was photographed on. The dialog is flat, filled with cliché overused lines and delivered by amateur actors who sound like their reading a script for the first time. The choppy, shaky, film style is a cheap imitation of the "The Ring" style visual effects. The characters do not even act like a normal person would. For example, the character who is looking for her twin sister at her home forces her way through the front door, creeps around the house all frightened and sobbing and she doesn't even once call out her sister's name to see if she is home. What? You would think she had just buried her sister instead of searching for her. Way too many flashbacks to her childhood. Too many unnecessary flashbacks is a typical sign of an amateur director. It is actually funny watching the numerous shots of the woman driving her car down the street, up the driveway, around this corner, over here, over there, oh a side view, now a front view. Enough already. You would think you are watching a TV commercial for the Solaris! Terrible movie. 0 out of 100. I really pity anybody who spent money making this film or to watch it.

This movie seriously sucked!!!!
d_ski200030 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I actually started of enjoying this movie, but I noticed that there were elements that made it very difficult to watch enjoyably! Wtf! How do you do a revenge movie about a twin sister avenging her sisters death only to have the sister die in the dumbest way humanly possible!!!! Please do not waste your time with this piece of trash film. I was originally drawn to this movie because of the cover and story premise. Don't be duped its possibly the worse movie ending in years. Even if you make it through the entire movie, you will be extremely let down. I hate to say this but "I know who Killed Me" was better than this, if that doesn't tell you how bad this film is nothing will. Lifetime wouldn't even play this type of garbage, and 90% of it felt like a Lifetime movie!

Utter waste of time
isaksson-sara28 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
There is so much that is wrong with this film, but to sum it up: Terrible acting- so bad it must have been on purpose. poor script - they may have had some good ideas but this was not the best way to present the story. ridiculously bad ending- in some cases the ending manages to save the film-not in this case. if you manage to sit through the entire film you will want to kick yourself at the end because the ending is not even worth waiting for. This is the worst film i have seen in a long time. It was complete torture sitting through this film, i would have appreciated someone warning me in advance. So do yourself a favor. Watch this film only if you have absolutely nothing better to do. Even then you will regret having put yourself through the unspeakable torture.

I wish the movie had been as good as it looks.
ageimerfilm1 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I also saw this movie at a local screening about a year ago. First, I'm going to say that it looks great. Cassella is incredibly talented and a fantastic cinematographer. I just wish the movie had been as good as it looks. I would not call this a horror movie. Putting in a few shots of a decaying ghost does not make it a horror movie. There's no mystery, there's no suspense, you know who did it the entire time.

It's a drama. You know what's going on with both sides the entire movie. The acting was okay, I guess, but nothing special.

And the tagline, "Revenge can be deadly"....really?...they should have check how many hundreds of horror/thriller movies have that exact same tagline?

It pains me to say some of this, but I know a lot of the people who worked on this movie, and I know they don't want people blowing smoke up their ass, so I give my honest opinion.

All over the place..
jason_onyx27 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of this movie was decent enough, but with sub par acting, it was just bland and dull.

SPOILERS The film does not work because of the nature of the death, it was accidental, so although it was a murder it wasn't like the guy set out to do it. Also through some flashbacks there is a secret that is revealed that sort of makes the events like justice to a degree. There is no emotion in this film. The first 20 minutes or so is just this woman calling her sister, and hearing her message. It was dull and boring.

With some polishing, and better acting it could have been pretty good.

Decent movie, until you get to the end of it.
kornstress_818 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Okay at first this movie seemed pretty good even though it was moving rather quick and even though they only had a $60,000 budget it was good but if you found your sister dead in a lake and found out who might have killed her why would you go chase him around and pull a gun on him with only one bullet and waste it and end up running from him all retarded and get yourself killed? Plus after you found your sister dead in the lake and found a clue and figured out who the killer was why wouldn't you hand that clue over to the police who think you killed her? And at the end of the movie when she acts like her sister who was a waitress and she is talking to the bad guy she should of met him somewhere and recorded him saying she was dead and what happened for her "proof". I don't know I was not happy with the ending. This movie could of been so much better if it lasted longer and the acting was better and if the ending did not suck so bad! Do not waste your money on this movie because if you do you will be writing a review on here too and will not be happy.

Well made, well done, good indie...finally.
ksband095 July 2009
While not perfect, I was very impressed with the level of craft shown on this film, specially knowing of its low budget ahead of time ( I read it through Fangoria Magazine). And it was real low. But lets not have an opinion based on the budget of the film, it is actually a smart, well presented thriller- drama. The problem I see with little films that look this great is that they often get judged as a larger film, which is unfair. Also, this is not a horror film, it is a small drama. It is a shame distributors are selling it like that. This leads to some critics getting upset at it because it was "not scary" enough. I think this one is a winner and one can see we are not dealing with some amateur director with no ambition ( which by the way, not only directed the thing, shot it and wrote it. I rented it on Netflix, along with another low budget horror film. That other film cost 4 times more and had none of the skills shown here.

I am very impressed. Great story, not perfect, but great. Good performances from most of the cast. Very good photography and overall, a great effort. If this is the starting point for this director, I can only imagine what lies in his future.

Good for low budget
jillianstewart4 July 2009
I rented this movie because I watch a ton of Indies and love horror. Though it wasn't scary I was surprised by how beautifully shot this film is. I appreciate the grainy, home made looking movies too. They are fun but this does not look like low budget and the acting is way better than any low budget indie I've ever seen. It's not a blockbuster like The Ring but if you can appreciate independent films than it sets a new standard. There is Lifetime movie element to the story but I thought that it was entertaining. Maybe a couple holes in the plot but the ending gave me goosebumps. I say it was worth my four dollars. Don't expect an Academy award type film. Just appreciate for what it is.

Started slow, interesting elements, but falls apart at the end
ShawnInNJ27 June 2009
This movie had several interesting elements: Asian horror style ghosts, twin sisters and flashes of their brutal childhood, and the primary story of a girl searching for her missing twin. At the same time it deals with guilt, fear and revenge. this film just never managed to pull everything together.

While it isn't a terrible film, it felt like it wasted so much of its originality and concept due to the lack of execution. There's a lot of influences from Asian horror movies in this film but not blatant or distracting.

That's the first half of the movie. The second half of the movie takes an turn away from the supernatural origins to a ridiculous revenge plot. While I understand the director intentionally left some parts of the story unresolved, it arrived at such unexpected conclusion via a nonsensical path.

Overall it isn't a bad film. It had a lot of interesting spots, but it took too long to fully develop, and when it finally got going, the story turns and becomes rather pointless.

Just misses
dbborroughs14 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Just okay film about a woman who is a twin having disturbing visions of her sister in danger back at home. She then returns home to find all is not well and that she is going to have to find out what happened to her sister and why.

This is the sort of thing that kind of almost works but doesn't quite. I can't really put my finger on why it didn't work but it was good enough that I kind of wished it was better, or at least had gotten the little things right- like having the girls who play the twins in the flashbacks be closer in size. I think perhaps thats whats wrong with it there are lots of little things that just are wrong.

Boring but beautiful
guntario26 February 2011
Second coming failed to capture my attention. The story was over-dramatic, poorly written and the situations were unbelievable. It seemed to have been written by someone who had never been through anything similar, and wrote about what they imagined it would be like. About a quarter of the way into the movie, I realized that the story was not interesting, and my mind started wandering. By the end of the movie, I was having to rewind just so I would be able to see what happened. And when the movie ended, I had not even realized this until about 30 seconds into the credits.

I can, however, say the camera work was well done. It's just unfortunate that the camera had to be focused on such poor acting. If visuals made a movie good, this would have been a great flick.

Cool!
dmaigut30 June 2009
just got this and I was totally surprised at how "studio quality" this film looked. I mean, they shot it for pesos or something, real low budget. Well directed, great performances (specially young Haley Boyle), a fantastic score and a weird finale. Well done, definitely worth a look. The little twins were real good, and the actor that played their father was excellent, real evil. Also, the flashback sequences were very well shot and executed.

The villain, Greg Thompson, was totally spot on, I suffer from tinnitus and his performance brought it all back. By the way, using tinnitus as part of the plot was smart, as it is a torture. Great film.

A sister gives clues to her twin as to why she's missing. Secrets of their past revealed as movie unfolds.
auntbecky-230 June 2009
If you like to watch plots unfold slowly as the movie progresses, like light bulbs going off revealing answers to perplexing questions as you go, I think you'll really like this movie. It shows the uniqueness of the bond between twins, as one twin gets "messages" or "visions" from the other as to why she's missing, and where she is. With their disturbing past being revealed as the story progresses, things get more and more unsettling. It's not the most "scary" movie I've ever seen, but it's got more intrigue and dark character building than a lot of horror films I've seen. The special effects are quality - it kept my attention all the way. And I think some of the characters were interesting that weren't necessarily the leads. My favorite part is the ending, which I really didn't see coming.

A surprise, a total surprise
stephanboy096 July 2009
Finally got to rent this. Huge fans of indie films and huge fan of horror cheese B-grade flicks. Unfortunately this was not what I expected. I was very impressed with the quality of the production. The IMDb budget says 1.5 million, which is BS. I read on Deadlantern.com the true budget and I was shocked. Lets just say the story is a bit predictable and the effects are so so, but its actually a small indie paranormal drama with touches of gore here and there. But there is quality here. First of all, for an indie of this price range it looks awesome, very professional. I did like the whole tinnitus thing, the ringing in the ears condition, I thought that using this as part of the story was amazingly original, never heard of it before, and I watch a lot of films! Very good, good, good job, can't imagine what these guys can do with an actual budget! Also read some great reviews on this film on other sites, so I hope it does well. As a movie fan, I am always on the lookout for small quality films like this. A surprise, total surprise.

Great thriller...not for the moronic ADD crowd
glorifiedcameraman30 June 2009
This is what an indie film should look, feel and be. An intelligent thriller.

I saw this about a year ago at a local screening and was quite impressed with what I saw. In a world where most indie horror flicks are full of cheesy zombies, stupid inane direction, and shots that look straight out of a porn film...Second Coming is a film that shows that independent micro budget movies can compete against studio films.

The plot of the film has been seen before, and some of the acting might be wooden, but there is intelligence, great craft and true film-making behind this thing. With a little bit more money...I can only imagine what these people can do.

Great performances from the lead, Greg Thompson, and Haley Boyle is simply amazing playing a double role as the little twins.

The direction, writing and photography are top notch, not an easy task considering that it was shot for very little, as they explained in the screening I saw.

Do yourself a favor and rent this one, if you are a fan of old school thrillers and hate typical Hollywood endings...you'll enjoy this one.

Highly Recommended.

A psychic bond between twin sisters, a missing person, and a lead character tortured by tinnitus, ringing in the ears.
bandmp30 June 2009
I love horror films, especially ones revolving around "people stories" as opposed to just like "monster movies". I thought Second Coming was real cool - and I liked the elements of twin sisters, their past was intriguing. But I mostly thought it was imaginative to revolve some of the plot around the physical defect of tinnitus. I don't remember anyone using that before in a movie to create angst and a shift of balance for a character. Some of the settings and scenes were dark and unsettling, which were pretty effective. I think maybe this is an Indie film, which makes it even more of a triumph in my book. It must be hard to achieve Hollywood type effects on an indie budget or whatever. Some of the supporting actors were really quality - you don't always see that in a low budget film. Anyway, I give it a thumbs up.

A total surprise, very good.
moviendcoming1 July 2009
First of all, this is a real slick film. Too slick for my D movie cravings. I mean, low micro budget flicks usually should look and feel like crap, and there is a charm to those movies, what makes me love them, the underdogs, the ones without all the fancy Hollywood stuff.

But this film totally surprised me, from frame one, it looks awesome and it should not be like this. I congratulate Jose Cassella for photographing a solid piece of entertainment. Filmmakers take notice, this is how independent films, specially micro budget indie films should look like.

Loved the story, my father suffers from Tinnitus, so the use of that condition in the story line was a masterstroke.

I got this Tuesday from Blockbuster and I did hesitate at first, somehow the cover didn't do it for me. But I took the chance and you all should take a chance on this little gem.

Its not for everyone, as I read here among other comments, but for me this is one of the best Indie "horror" films I've seen...ever. I don't know if I should say "horror", it really isn't a horror film, its more like a drama with a few small touches of gore.

Also, the extras are gold, pure gold. The short film included, its called "Wish", its even better than the film!. and the Tinnitus PSA that is also on the extras is simply amazing, to the point and it contains a message that needs to be spread, people need to know about the damages of Tinnitus.

A surprise, truly a surprise.

a great indie thriller!
ksfilms30 June 2009
beautifully shot and made indie film. A great effort. The whole tinnitus sub-plot was not only highly original (never heard of tinnitus before),but educational too... In a strange way. The lead was a tad weak but the rest of the cast was dead on balls perfect. Great score too from Angelo Milli ( 7 pounds). Jose Cassella not only directed but shot this too, and you can see great craftmanship at work here. A great little thriller for people interested in a more evolving pace. Cassella is a talent to watch, if he can make a film like this for the micro budget he had (I heard around $60,000), then watch out for this guy! Terrific flick, congratulations.

Something odd here...
Phil-12125 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Isn't it odd that most of the negative reviews were posted several days before the movie was released though no previews were done in more than a year? The movie is beautifully shot. I don't know what the budget was but the $60,000 quoted in another comment seems low for this quality.

This movie is not for folks who want to see a big creature killing helpless teenagers but it is a film of interesting revenge. Doc Kirby is great as the evil Dad in this movie. He has a future playing the 'heavy'. His flashback scenes with his daughters look great.

I would have liked a more definitive ending but the groundwork is there to figure it out. Take a look and see what independent films should be. Even with a low budget, this one delivers.

Picked up at video store
fraudlady200010 February 2012
I just so happened to walk by this movie and I picked it up. I have never heard of it before and wanted to give it a try. This was an absolutely GREAT movie. I don't understand why I haven't heard of it before. The characters were amazing and the story line was great. I love the way they used "been there done that" kind of themes you normally see in almost every other horror movie. I couldn't stop watching it. I don't understand some of the other comments about people getting together to report that this movie was bad. I guess there are haters in every form of business. I hope more people find out about it and watches it. I know I am certainly going to be recommending it to everyone I know.

Great!!!
deadman1112062 July 2009
It was a very amazing movie. The actress (Juliet Reeves) was awesome. She is a rising star of our time. I cannot wait to get more titles, with comedy, drama, and horror with her in them. The movie itself had a well written plot, it kept you on the edge of your seat. It had an exceptional cast, that was also well directed and produced. I would love to see all the same people in other titles. Not every day do you get to see a good movie that makes you want to see it again and again. What more can I say about this movie besides the fact that I will recommend this movie to friends and family, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that they will enjoy it just as much as I did. Further more I cannot wait to see more titles with the wonderful Juliet Reeves. Thank you very much.
