You have to hand it to Vincent. Wherever he ends up, it's either a house of an old friend or a relative.
The weather has taken a turn for the worse. It is Christmas 1942 and it is snowing. They arrive at a house of an old friend Paul Menard (Jonathan Glover.)
They are met by a woman called Yvette (Moira Redmond) who welcomes them and then points a gun at them. She claims to be Paul's sister.
Vincent persuades her that he is indeed an old friend. Later revealing to Jimmy that Paul never had a sister.
Vincent later reunites with his old friend. However Jimmy and Nina learn that in their younger days. Both Paul and Vincent were fascists. This shocks Jimmy but Nina has found out that Paul has been collaborating with the local Nazis and transporting people as forced labour.
I have stated that the writing for Manhunt has been uneven, at times poor. Here some of it is very good in this episode. Paul revealing how Europe was failing and waiting to be revived by Mussolini and Hitler. It chimes with all those moaners on social media today. Always complaining about everything and blaming it on everyone else.
Jimmy gets a chance for a bit of nookie with Yvette but passes up the chance to confront her about her Nazi sympathies. He ends up shooting Yvette dead. Which was rather startling as he did rather fancy her.
There is an air of tragedy and mistrust about this story. Vincent always at unease, maybe about his past getting revealed. Both Glover and Redmond are excellent.
