Hungary has finally a gangster movie...

...even if it's surely not in the top league of mob flicks, but it's quite descent for a start.

It has the usual setup for these kind of movies: drugs, betrayal, twists, affair and so on. For the hungarian movie standards I think it did a good job and opens the door for future mob projects (which unfortunately still didn't happen yet).

Most of the actors did a good job, the movie never really got boring. What I disliked are the too long trippy visual montage scenes, but for some reason hungarian directors really love doing this. A mystery for me.

If you want to see a not so typical hungarian movie, I recommend Zuhanórepülés, as it's a descent end result.

going straight down

Warning: Spoilers
I don't like stories where the main char happens to be an all time loser - I mean what's the point? Also the story is far too predictable - at any moment of the movie. And despite the fact that it's supposed to be a realistic mafia flick gangsta shootings and takedowns are sometimes just funny. The Russian characters are very cool however ...! It could have been even a cool movie - if they only concentrated on what they really had - the cool Russian characters. Too bad that they couldn't just add some okay story around that. Now it's just between the 2 acceptable types - it's too violent (prison bathroom rape scene with nudity & violence) for a Friday night movie - and too substanceless (zero depth shallow) for a Cannes type of movie. At least that's what I think :)
