One of My Favourite Childhood films
MovieTVRomanceFan15 June 2020
Polly World was always one of my favourite childhood films. I've lost count over the numerous times I would watch it on DVD. This was such an underrated movie and it's too bad they didn't make more movies like this one or make a TV series out of it. This was great entertainment with all the fun challenges Polly and her friends participated in as well as the great music too. I love Polly so much in this movie. Despite her wealth, she is a kind, caring, down-to-earth person and one of the best friends a girl could ask for. I also enjoyed the team up between Beth and Lorelai, watching as they tried to send Polly away to boarding school. Lorelai is another classic (almost) wicked step mother who wanted to send Polly away so she could have her father all to herself. I'm glad Lorelai was exposed before it was too late and Polly gets to stay with her friends and family.

Overall, this was a fantastic movie that any young girl would love.

OK, good & poor themes. 7 year old daughter in love with it.

Sweet & sour. Good themes of friendship, trust, putting others needs before your own. Didn't like the commercialism and the focus on needing to shop all the time. Also these girls are focused on clothes and shopping - fashion is a key value. Also blatant advertising for Popsicle - are they owned by Mattel? There was an evil stepmother which some object to, but overall I liked it. Polly was always nice - even when facing adversity, and bounced back from bad news - good lessons for my girl to emulate. My 7 year old daughter is Polly crazy (an understatement) and we've watched this about six times so far. She can watch it over and over and over and enjoy it. We are up for another Polly movie.

Cute animation, nepotism wasn't great

Warning: Spoilers
Cute animation style with very beautiful colour scheme. Polly Pocket is a nepotism baby whose friends are too scared to say anything. They treat her like the leader and barely have any identities. The band is called "Polly and the Pockets" for goodness sake. Beth is the "antagonist" and she is a little mean but to be honest, I get it. She just seems like an ambitious girl that's tired of seeing Polly get hand outs all the time.

There barely is a plot (a game show with a hot tv Ken doll type TV presenter is being hosted at Pollyworld- a theme park named after Polly) and the subliminal messages you get from it are "being rich is fun and your friends should make their world revolve around you". That being said, I think all media is inherently biased and you can still raise a decent and thoughtful kid who likes this movie. An entire theme park in your name? A pink limousine with a smart wardrobe that dresses you? I'll admit it is incredibly cool and I wouldn't hold it against anybody if they enjoyed it. I liked those parts. I think I liked the movie as a whole I just hated the protagonist.

A girls movie with a nice colour scheme, interesting worlds but an emphasis on female friendship rather than female antagonists (ie: Polly's evil step mother, Lorelai, the "mean" girl from school, Beth) would be Barbie in a Fairy Secret. They also have actually good songs on the soundtrack... Let's just say it's no wonder Lorelai didn't want Polly and the Pockets singing at her wedding.
