Alone in the Dark 2

Hottie Natassia Malthe To Return Once More For Uwe Bolls BloodRayne 4
The sexy Natassia Malthe is set to return to Uwe Boll's 'BloodRayne' franchise in the new fourth installment. Malthe -below ('Alone in the Dark II') will be back as Rayne, the Dhampir (child of a vampire father and a human mother), to face more enemies and perform more evil ass-kicking. But more importantly the Malaysian actress managed to get naked and steamy in predecessor 'Bloodrayne: The Third Reich' so fingers crossed for a repeat performance in 'BloodRayne 4'. The 'BloodRayne' movies, based on the video game series of the same name, have all been helmed by director Boll - the man who has been disappointing game fans for a few years now with his endless list of game to feature adaptions which include the likes of 'Far Cry', 'House of the Dead', 'Alone in the Dark' and 'Postal'.

Uwe Boll at an event for BloodRayne (2005)
Exclusive: Natassia Malthe Talks 'BloodRayne' and Girl-on-Girl Action
Uwe Boll at an event for BloodRayne (2005)
Natassia Malthe is a regular in the films of Uwe Boll. The Norwegian stunner has appeared in BloodRayne: Deliverance, Alone in the Dark II, and In the Name of the King 2. Her most recent Uwe flick is BloodRayne: The Third Reich, in which she plays the eponymous character, a human/vampire hybrid who fights evil. The third in the BloodRayne series is now out on DVD, so we sat down with Natassia. She told us about working with the notorious director, growing up naked in Norway, and that hot girl-on-girl scene. You keep coming back to work with Uwe Boll. What makes it a good working relationship? I looked it up in an astrology book - it said we would have a really successful working relationship. And it's true! But...

This Week on DVD: Michael Jackson’s This Is It, Surrogates, Whip It
From Jigsaw to Jacko, this week's DVD release are a real mixed bag. Some of the higher profile films hitting a digital format today include Drew Barrymore's Whip It, the Bruce Willis sci-fi action film Surrogates, Saw VI, the poorly received comedy I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, and Michael Jackson's This Is It. Digging a bit deeper, we also have the indie drama Little Ashes, which stars Robert Pattinson as Salvador Dali, Jennifer Baichwal's metaphysical documentary Act of God, and the direct-to-dvd Thomas Jane noir-thriller Give 'Em Hell Malone. All this plus the U.S. release of Pontypool and Parker Lewis Can't Lose: Season 2! What movies will be in your queue this week? Whip It [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) Michael Jackson's This Is It [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) Surrogates [5] (+ Blu-ray [6]) Saw VI [7] (+ Blu-ray [8]) Bright Star [9] I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell [10] The Boys are Back [11] Little Ashes [12] Pontypool [13] St. Trinian's...

DVD releases for Tuesday, January 26, 2010
This is a massive week of releases featuring a handful of films even I have to catch up with (not to mention there’s something for everyone in today’s line-up). But enough rambling, on to the goods!

Finally on DVD in the Us this week is the Canadian pseudo-zombie film Pontypool (review, amazon) from one of my favourite Canadian directors Bruce McDonald. Be sure to watch through the end credits! And by the way, the Us DVD cover art is pretty awesome.

Highlander director Russell Mulcahy’s private investigator drama Give 'em Hell, Malone (amazon) hits store shelves. It stars a great cast featuring Thomas Jane, Doug Hutchison and Ving Rhames. Fans of hard-boiled revenge thrillers may want to take a peek at Takanori Tsujimoto’s Hard Revenge Milly (amazon).

If a gorgeous looking prison escape drama is more your cup of tea, Rupert Wyatt’s The Escapist (amazon...

Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy (Criterion Collection) Believe me, I am mindful of the price of Criterion releases when I review and recommend them for purchase. It just so happens I view this three film release as an absolute must buy and at $57.49 at Amazon right now I don't see how you can pass it up and if you are looking to buy two DVDs this week perhaps check out Barnes and Noble, which is having their "Buy Two Get One Free" sale, which includes box sets.

As for my complete thoughts on this set you can click here to read my extensive review. WWII in HD I guess it's only fitting the History Channel's WWII in HD arrives the same week as Rossellini's War Trilogy gets a superb refinishing via Criterion. I have this set here and...

Alone in the Dark II will go straight to DVD beginning January 26, 2010. The film offers some familiar faces including: Lance Henriksen, Bill Moseley, Danny Trejo, and Michael Pare. However, the film has received some early poor reviews and the only available movie clip from the film onlys creates more questions that the promo answers. Have a look at this grainy trailer from Vivendi Entertainment below - if you dare!

A synopsis for Alone in the Dark II here:

"When the night falls, and the creatures of the dark are crawling out of the shadows, there is only one man who stands between us and the evil: Edward Carnby. One of the most popular characters in video game history, Edward Carnby returns for a second mission (Traileraddict)."

Director: Michael Roesch.

Writer: Michael Roesch.

Cast: Rick Yune, Rachel Specter, Lance Henriksen, Bill Moseley, Danny Trejo, Ralf Moeller, Zach Ward, Natassia Malthe, P.J. Soles,...

Alone in the Dark II DVD Art, Date
Lionsgate Home Entertainment has set a January 26 release date for Alone in the Dark II . Because you demanded it. Michael Roesch directed this entry which nixes Christian Slater and Tara Reid and gives us Rick Yune, Lance Henriksen, Ralf Moeller, Pj Soles, Bill Moseley, Rachel Specter, Michael Paré and Danny Trejo. Can you handle that? Yeah, didn't think you could. Edward Carnby, played by Slater in the last entry, is now embodied by Yune. Weird. That's the cover you see on the left brandishing the tagline "Evil returns." This entry has to do with a witch and a lab - when a full synopsis comes to light, we'll give it to you!

Rejoice! Alone in the Dark II on DVD in January
If ever there was a movie that did not require a follow-up, it would be Uwe Boll's disastrous Alone in the Dark. Uwe Boll only produced this time around, allowing the makers of the direct-to-dvd House of the Dead 2, Peter Scheerer and Michael Roesch, to write and direct this second installment of the Alone in the Dark franchise that continues its grand tradition of gobbledygook storytelling.

An evil centuries old spectral witch lurks inside a lab?

The role of Edward Carnby originated by Christian Slater is now played by Rick Yune; what exactly happened at the end of the original that turned Carnby Asian?

Gone are Slater, Tara Reid, and Stephen Dorff, but what a cast they still managed to wrangle for this name-only sequel about a team of witch hunters battling it out with a wicked witch while fighting over a cursed dagger: Rick Yune, Bill Moseley,...

Preview: Ninja Assassin
Ten years ago, the Wachowski brothers, little known at the time, released their second movie as directors, The Matrix. A product of their love of Hong Kong action movies and Manga, it became huge. The mix of stylish action and spiritual introspection struck a chord, particularly with teenage boys searching for an identity. Two inferior sequels followed, but they did’nt diminish the cultural impact the first movie made, and the Wachowskis were set – they could write their own cheques.

Their follow up movie, Speed Racer, got very mixed reviews. They did, however, unearth a very talented young martial arts actor, Rain. Another young man, by the name of James McTeigue, had worked as a second unit director on all three Matrix movies. Having learnt his trade from the talented brothers, McTeigue made his directorial debut with 2006’s V for Vendetta. The Wachowski, along with their Matrix producer Joel Silver,...

50 Influential Scream Queens: Part 1
Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.

There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone...

DVD news #1: New Silent Scream/Sorority discs and more
A couple more cult-fave slasher flicks of the early ’80s receive the special-edition treatment via DVDs that arrive November 24. Fango got the details on a new disc of Mark Rosman’s 1983 The House On Sorority Row (the basis of the current big-screen remake Sorority Row) from Liberation Entertainment, and the DVDebut of 1980’s Silent Scream from the new Scorpion Releasing.

House On Sorority Row, previously issued on a bare-bones disc by Elite, has been given a fresh transfer from a recently discovered print for this 25th Anniversary Edition (even though the film is technically 26 years old). The film is now supplemented with:

Audio commentary by writer/director Rosman Alternate ending Photo gallery Trailer

Retail price is $19.95. Silent Scream, directed by Denny Harris from a script by Jim and Ken Wheat (who also produced) and Wallace C. Bennett, is set at a boarding house where a group of college students take up residence,...

Third Alone In The Dark on the way?
Fango recently caught up with actor Rick Yune, best-known for his roles in such blockbuster action fare as The Fast And The Furious and Die Another Day and more recently seen in such low-budget efforts as The Fifth Commandment (which he also wrote and produced) and the creature-feature sequel Alone In The Dark II (pictured, and reviewed here). Considering that the latter’s producer Uwe Boll is turning Bloodrayne into a trilogy, it goes without saying that a third Alone is almost certainly guaranteed.

Even so, the Korean-born Yune, who replaced original star Christian Slater in the second installment, reveals that he will not reprise the role in any further follow-ups. “I have heard that they want to continue the Alone In The Dark series,” he tells Fango. “But I definitely will not be going back to play Edward Carnby again. I got involved with Alone In The Dark II...

Director unveils Penance trailer, talks new projects
Fango caught up with writer/director Jake (Days Of Darkness) Kennedy, who tipped us off to the new non-work-safe trailer (which you can seen below) for his horror flick Penance. Previously titled The Devil’S Dungeon, produced by Will (Automaton Transfusion) Clevinger and filmed last year in Los Angeles, Penance stars Jeepers Creepers 2’s Marieh Delfino (pictured) as a stripper who falls into the hands of sadistic surgeon (Graham McTavish) with genital mutilation on his mind.

“The title changed from The Devil’S Dungeon to Penance since we believe it has far exceeded our own quality standards in terms of cast, performance and look,” Kennedy tells Fango. “So we wanted to steer away from a B-movie-esque moniker and more toward a cooler, more representative name. Penance means ‘the repentance of one’s sins,’ and that’s exactly what our bad guy is trying to do—and what he’s...

Review: Alone In The Dark II
You have to feel at least a little bit sorry for Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer, the writer/directors of the in-name-only follow-up to Uwe Boll’s notorious creature-feature flop Alone In The Dark. Having cut their teeth penning that film and the snooze-inducing House Of The Dead II, the twosome recently turned to calling the shots behind the camera with the low-budget vampire opus Brotherhood Of Blood and this far more extravagant outing—which, nevertheless, still suffers from an obvious lack of greenbacks.

Thus, whereas the original Alone In The Dark (which few people will dispute was a convoluted, badly acted mishmash of pathetically timed jump scares, lousy monster FX and sci-fi mumbo jumbo) at least looked lavish enough to pass muster as a theatrical attraction, this installment has a lot less to fall back on. So not only did the two have to try and reinvent a franchise...

Read on for a look! The film tells the story of Edward Carnby, who joins forces with a team of witch hunters to track down the dangerous witch Elisabeth Dexter.
