Somewhere, at this very moment, someone's dad is probably watching one of the Jesse Stone movies on DVD, and that man is having a great afternoon. After this, he might pop in "Ford v. Ferrari" for the seventh time.
The character of Jesse Stone began his life in a series of airport novels written by the late Robert B. Parker. The first Jesse Stone novel, "Night Passage," was published in 1997 and it followed the titular former LAPD detective (and divorced recovering alcoholic) as he investigated money laundering and murder in Paradise, Massachusetts. Parker had a hit on his hands with "Night Passage," and proceeded to writer eight additional Jesse Stone novels from 1998 up until his death in 2010. Jesse Stone had become an institution at that point, and other authors began writing Stone novels in Parker's style. There have been 11 additional Jesse Stone novels written after Parker's death.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Beck reenters his morning phase on his surprise new single, “Thinking About You,” which arrived Thursday night with no warning from the singer-songwriter.
After spending the last half-decade traversing the pop universe with albums like Colors and Hyperspace, “Thinking About You” finds Beck returning to the mellow, introspective, and acoustic vibes found on 2014’s Album of the Year Grammy-winning Morning Phase and 2003’s Sea Change; “Thinking About You” was actually recorded in the same studio where Beck made the latter classic.

Few Grammy Awards were as memorable as the 57th annual event. That night, Sam Smith almost swept the general field, Kendrick Lamar won his first awards, and Sia delivered one of the most memorable Grammys performances of the 21st century. But most importantly, the 2015 ceremony was remembered for the last award presented, which would prove not only controversial but, to many people, an exemplification of certain problems with the recording academy that have only gotten worse since then. The night of the 57th Grammy Awards was defined by one big question: how did Beck beat Beyonce?
To understand Beck’s landmark win, we first have to take a short look into his previous work. Beck has been known for making eclectic yet mainstream alternative music. His debut album, the folk-driven “Golden Feelings,” didn’t receive much attention. It wasn’t until his third studio album, “Mellow Gold,” that Beck got...

Ah, to be a Canadian character actor. To be paid to almost anonymously blend into role after role after role, to segue from big-budget action films to small TV movies to guest roles on classic TV series.
In the course of a week, Stephen McHattie will have appeared in the highest-rated program on its broadcast night ("Jesse Stone: Sea Change") and the most eagerly awaited film in the annuls of comic book geekdom ("Watchmen"). No one's watching them for McHattie himself, and it's a shame, because he's the sort of actor who invests every role with a quiet authority, an intensity that seems to be part and parcel of his particular trade.
I noticed McHattie first around 1989, when he appeared in the third season of "Beauty and the Beast," the very example of a show that just couldn't survive once its female lead (Linda Hamilton) because pregnant and opted to leave.

Manheim, Hope, Baker set in 'Stone'
Camryn Manheim, Leslie Hope and Kathy Baker have joined the cast of the CBS telefilm Jesse Stone: Thin Ice, the fifth installment in the successful Tom Selleck movie franchise from Sony Pictures Television.
The franchise, based on the best-selling series of novels by Robert B. Parker, stars Selleck as a small-town police chief.
Manheim will play Elizabeth Blue, a woman in search of her child who was stolen from the maternity ward seven years ago. Selleck and Michael Brandman are executive producing Thin Ice, which begins shooting this month in Nova Scotia. The airdate has yet to be determined.

Poker face: Selleck eyes NBC's 'Vegas'
Emmy winner Tom Selleck is in discussions to join NBC's Las Vegas as the fast-paced drama's new leading man.
He would play the smart, powerful, fun-loving new owner of Montecito Resort & Casino, a new character designed to fill the void left by the recent departure of the show's star James Caan.
Caan, who played the head of the casino's surveillance team for four years, recently left the series to return to features (HR 2/28).
Vegas, from NBC Universal TV Studio and DreamWorks TV, was picked up for a fifth season in February and is slated to begin production on its order soon. The show also is looking to add a beautiful female concierge in the wake of the departure of co-star Nikki Cox.
Josh Duhamel also stars on Vegas, with Molly Sims, James Lesure and Vanessa Marcil rounding out the cast.
Selleck's starring role on Vegas would mark his first regular gig on a drama series since his Emmy-winning turn on Magnum, P.I.
He followed that up with memorable recurring roles on NBC's hit comedy Friends and, most recently, on ABC's dramedy Boston Legal.
Selleck also has had success with the Stone Cold series of original movies for CBS, with the latest installment, Jesse Stone: Sea Change, slated to premiere in May.
