Now the British summer has made a belated reappearance, we can expect a few downsides such as hay fever, sunburn and insect bites - but no flying pests in our gardens can rival Dragon Wasps. And a can of the standard repellent probably won't do much good either.
This giant creature feature is written by Mark Atkins. His previous genre outings include numerous hit-inspired 'mockbusters' such as Snakes on a Train, 30,000 Leagues Under The Sea, War of the Worlds 2, Allan Quartermain and the Temple of Skulls, Princess of Mars (an alternative version of John Carter), Battle of Los Angeles and Avh: Alien vs Hunter.
He's also been involved in several dragon-themed productions including Dragonquest, Merlin and the War of the Dragons, and Dragon Crusaders.
Now offering an insect slant on the concept, the cast of Dragon Wasps features Corin Nemec (Stargate Sg-1, Smallville, Supernatural), Dominika Juillet (Dark Angel), Benjamin Easterday...

Jersey Shore. The. Musical. ?. !.
While most fans of pop culture best remember Daniel Franzese for his standout role as the catty gay best friend in that one Lindsay Lohan movie that didn't suck ("Mean Girls"), Danny has also built a fanbase for himself with films like "Kill Theory", "Bully", and "I Spit On Your Grave".
His most recent undertaking, however, involves him belting out songs with titles like "I Fucking Love You" and wearing a padded muscle suit under a wifebeater, alongside several other actors and actresses portraying juice-heads, guidettes, and gorillas.
That's right. 'Jersey Shore', undeniably one of the guiltiest pleasures MTV has ever tried to foist on us, has become an off-Broadway musical.
Running in Los Angeles at the Bootleg Theater on Beverly Boulevard, "Jersey Shoresical: A Frickin' Rock Opera" has been garnering rave reviews from its audiences, and so far it has been sold out, standing-room-only for every performance.

Exclusive Adam Rosenfelt, the former president of Element Films, has launched a new financing and production company that expects to make three movies per year, TheWrap has learned. Gambit Films will make commercial independent movies with budgets of less than $20 million, Rosenfelt told TheWrap on Friday. Other principals at the firm are the former head of physical production at Element Brian Pitt, and equity partner Dylan Narang. Rosenfelt intends to run Gambit the same way he ran Element. That company produced the 2009 "Kill Theory," the 2007 "Mr. Brooks," the 2005 "Waiting" and others. Rosenfelt,...

Distribution company Maya Entertainment will release a new sci-fi thriller titled Speed of Thought. Nick Stahl (Mirrors 2), Mia Maestro (Frida), and Taryn Manning (Kill Theory) will star. Speed of Thought involves that prolific gift of telepathy and the lengths that governments will go to manipulate those with this power.
Nick Stahl plays Joshua Lazarus, the gifted and his name portends to biblical references. Is this a gift from God? There are references to Joshua leading the Isrealites in the New Testament and of course, Lazarus is one of the first ever zombies (resurrected by Jesus). One begins to wonder at the significance of the name and why filmmakers continue to choose their influences from religious doctrines e.g. Christian, Jewish and Muslim teachings. Have there been some new eye witness accounts of the messiah recently, that his reviewer has missed?

While sifting through Youtube trailers the other day, we came across what appears to be a German release of the movie trailer for the upcoming Mother's Day Remake. After doing some research around the web, we found that indeed it is a promotional trailer for the Darren Lynn Bousman's film, but not the "official" trailer which should be releasing very soon.
Short Synopsis:
"The sadistic members of a villainous family return to their childhood home to terrorize the new home owners and their guests."
The movie is slated for an opening date of April 1st via LightTower Entertainment and Gigapix Releasing. The film stars veteran actress Rebecca De Mornay (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle), Jaime King (They Wait, The Tripper), Briana Evigan (Sorority Row, Burning Bright), Shawn Ashmore (The Ruins, Frozen), Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) Lyriq Bent (Saw II, III and IV), Alexa Vega (Repo! Ride With The Devil (Criterion) Ang Lee’s revisionist take on the Civil War is awash in moral ambiguity, along with some stunning cinematography, production design, and fine performances. Set during the Kansas-Missouri border war, Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich star as two friends who join up with the Confederate-sympathizing Bushwhackers, finding an odd ally in a former slave (Jeffrey Wright). While it’s fascinating to see America’s bloodiest conflict through the eyes of a foreigner, thereby allowing much of the previously mentioned ambiguity a certain latitude, the film never loses the bad taste it leaves for one simple reason: it asks us, the audience, to side with not just the Confederates, but some of the lowest trash that made up the dregs, and the fringes, of the movement. Big points for audacity, but snake eyes on the story itself. Singer Jewel is impressive in her film debut.

There have been two After Dark Horrorfest movies where the sadistic mastermind's true motives are in trying to prove a point. In both movies, that point is something about human behavior. The first movie that tries to do this is Kill Theory, which I thought was well done. The second of these movies is Dread. In the same vain as Martyrs, Dread's psychological (then physical) trauma inflicted on the victims is done to prove a point. While Martyrs went beyond the limit, Dread goes a tad lite on the issue.
Yes, I'm actually calling Dread a diet version of Martyrs.
The story revolves around Stephen (Twilight hearthrob/current racebending offender, Jackson Rathbone) a college student who decides to do his thesis on dread, or what people fear the most. With the help of his super weird friend Quaid (Shaun Evans) and his girlfriend (in theory) Cheryl, they begin interviewing...

If you like to be scared, really scared, we know a great way to terrorize yourself for nearly twenty hours, all for just $159.98. How, you ask? Each year, After Dark opens eight indie horror films in theaters in major markets, and then the folks at Lionsgate release them on DVD, both separately and as a packaged set. The 2010 collection is out now, and there's some stuff well worth recommending, a bunch of cool, up-and-coming actors and actresses screaming their heads off, and stacks of directors showing some major chops and priming themselves for bright futures. Lake Mungo (2010) centers on a family that discovers some crazy secrets about their daughter after her supposedly accidental death. The relatively unknown cast includes Rosie Traynor,...

Now in it's fourth year, Horrorfest, the annual cinematic showcase for After Dark Films, has established something of a reputation as a platform for fresh, daring filmmakers to get themselves noticed. More than just a simple market for nasties, the After Dark label stands for quality by way of authenticity, delivering horror films by genre lovers for genre lovers. In addition to this yearly frightfest, After Dark recently announced a new venture to develop their own projects, in partnership with SyFy, NBC, and Lionsgate, titled After Dark Originals. Aiming to do for horror what the Sundance Institute did for the American indie, the eight slate series will begin production next month with a view towards theatrical release later this fall.

After Jason, Michael Meyer, and Freddy Kruger, should we add ‘Deranged Climber’ to the pantheon of great horror characters? No, but Kill Theory is a solid new stalk and slash film from director Chris Moore that, while never coming close to breaking any new ground, manages to generate more than its share of suspense and is a decent way to kill 84 minutes. It may be “by-the-numbers”, but it’s obviously made by people who know what makes slasher films work, which it does and I appreciated it’s lack of gimmickry. The ‘kill theory’ of the title is all about the natural human instinct to survive, but that’s just an excuse to set up a row of attractive young actors to die horribly, which they do.

Slasher flicks are a lot like microwave pizza: tasty and slightly satisfying, but generally not very filling and entirely forgettable. And just because you dole out some microwave pizza on a slightly nifty plate -- we're still talking about plain old microwave pizza. And yes, this metaphor is going somewhere. Kill Theory, the directorial debut of prolific film producer Chris Moore, is a (very) basic slice of microwave pizza, and the (allegedly) nifty plate on which is it served is a gimmick. Kill Theory is, in many ways, a very basic, very familiar tale of "body count in a cabin," and the gimmick is this: instead of a mysterious lunatic who is killing young adults, we have a mysterious lunatic who is forcing...

If you're unfamiliar with After Dark Films' Horrorfest, its intentions are this: Scour film festivals and film markets for great new genre fare to be part of an eight-strong lineup of films called Horrorfest. Theaters around the Us can then choose to partake in said lineup, in turn bringing the 'fest experience' to those who can't travel around the world to actual film festivals to see said films. Unfortunately, the reality of Horrorfest is a little different.
They do indeed scour film markets for acquisitions, but most buzz-worthy horror films tend to attract larger distributors with deeper pockets. That means that the actual pool of festival favorites that Adf has to chose from is rather shallow. Making matters worse, over the last few years theaters have realized that Horrorfest doesn't have big enough films or a big enough advertising presence to make partaking in the fest worthwhile. So instead of...

Our coverage of the 2010 After Dark Horrorfest continues with our exclusive interview with Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction writer/director Kevin Hamedani. Zmd marks the first horror/comedy for After Dark and judging by the way Hamedani describes his flick ('a hybrid of that realistic dry humor of Election with the occasional broad political jab of Dr. Strangelove with zombies') I'd be willing to wager that horror fans could be in for a serious treat here. In theaters January 29nd–February 5th Zmd:Zombies of Mass Destruction will be joined by The Final, The Graves, Hidden, Dread, Lake Mungo, Kill Theory and The Reeds. We're just two short weeks away from After Dark Films' Horrorfest 4, and today they finally unveiled their event poster. I guess since they decided to discontinue selecting a "Miss Horrorfest" for 2010, they also decided to make the poster less suggestive than in previous years.
Even so, I have to say I dig it. Check it out below, and let us know what you think.
After Dark Horrorfest 4 runs for one week in theatres across the United States from January 29nd–February 5th, 2010, making it the largest nationwide film festival. The films to be shown include Dread, The Graves, Hidden, Lake Mungo, Kill Theory, The Final, Zombies of Mass Destruction, and The Reeds.

Actually, before we begin announcing the final film to join the lineup for Horrorfest 4 we have to back up and also mention what the 7th film is as well. We kinda forgot to tell you. Tee hee. Whoops. Back before the holidays After Dark Films announced that The Reeds would fill the seventh spot. In The Reeds, a weekend boating trip through the Norfolk Broads becomes a deadly ordeal for six 20-something year old friends who lose their bearings in the vast reedy tidewaters. Chances of escape and hopes for survival diminish as inexplicable forces terrorize the lost and terrified group.
The eighth and final spot will go to Kill Theory. In Kill Theory, a group of college friends visit a secluded vacation home to celebrate their impending graduation. The fun doesn't last long, however. Forced to participate in a deadly experiment by a sadistic psychopath, each friend must kill in order to survive.
