A Studio Ghibli short that makes fun of themselves.
emasterslake7 November 2006
This aired on Japan TV back in 2000. Ghiblies is mainly about charactered versions of the staff members of Studio Ghibli doing their normal routine, life, and making the next animated film.

This one does introductions to a few of the characters who resemble the employees you'd find at Studio Ghibli. Each one of them either has a secret past, bad luck, or acting stranger than fiction itself. Throughout the short you'll get plenty of laughs as this contains Japanese office jokes in a whole different way.

I really liked the way they thought this short up. Especially the same water color animation used in "My Neighbors the Yamadas". The cool thing about it is it has one part hinting the start of the production of the Oscar Nominated "Spirited Away".

It's not too hard in finding this piece of Ghibli's talent. You're able to obtain off the internet. Cause that's how I found it. If you like Ghiblies: Episode 1, then check out the more well known Episode 2. See my review for my opinion on it.

Unusually messy for Ghibli

Warning: Spoilers
"Ghiblies: Episode 1" is a 12-minute animated short film from 2000 that shows several Studio Ghibli employees during their work. Of course, it is all to be taken lightly and made for fun purposes. Actually you could almost call this a collection of vignettes, snippets or really short films put together for the overall product here. The animation style is somewhat unusual for Ghibli, but that's not the biggest problem in my opinion. The biggest problem to me was that this one felt lacking focus and all over the place and honestly it turned into a bit of a mess that you don't really expect from Ghibli. Perhaps only the employees can enjoy this one from a bit of an insider perspective. I myself like some Ghibli stuff quite a lot, but this one here is certainly a contender for least favorite. If you still wanna see it, get a good set of subtitles unless you are fluent in Japanese. Oh yeah, there is a sequel to this one here from 2 years later and I think this one worked out better. More details on my review at the sequel's title page. Back to this one here: I give it a thumbs-down and don't recommend checking it out.
