Actually a pretty funny episode.
TOMNEL27 October 2006
Stars: Trey Parker as Satan, Stan, Cartman, Randy Marsh, Jimmy, Mr. Stotch, Steve Irwin, Catholic Priest, Ted Bundy and others.

Matt Stone as Kyle, Butters, Tweek, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Gacy, Catholic Priest and others.

South Park, recently has been a bit lacking in funny. Of course the South Park Halloween Special is the perfect opportunity to make a hilarious episode. This episode was really hilarious..at times. The main plot is Satan is throwing a big "Sweet 16" Halloween party. In order for it to be off the hook, he needs a Ferrari cake, which he sends Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy to get, in a spoof of the Three Stooges. Meanwhile Butters, and some of he other boys, manage to contact the ghost of Biggie Smalls. It's a silly, but good episode. It's got good ol' South Park brand violence too! My rating: ****/*****. 22 mins.

"Satan" at his best and one of greatest plots
tomdegroot-572243 February 2022
Satan is his peak here and ages like fine wine.

Whenever South Park takes any comedy shot at organized religion the scenes are gold. The side characters featued are amazing, and the boys have some of the most memorable scenes here. The plot is super fun and is extremely rewatchable A great South Park staple that stands out. Fun start to finish and highly recommend it.

The ironic controversy regarding this episode highlights what Trey and Matt were satirizing
The-Last-Prydonian30 June 2020
For those unfamiliar with this episode, this one caused a major media backlash when it aired due to the late Steve Irwin appearing at a fancy dress party held by Satan with a stingray protruding from his chest after his widow, Terri released a statement voicing how she felt he was being mocked. Although I can appreciate why she would have been upset, and watching the episode and the intent of what they were trying to do I can't say that I agree that was ever the case.

Needless to say, though the media uproar created as is many's the case now seems bafflingly ironic. Given that the episode arguably had even more sick, a black comedy in relation to the fact that it depicts the presence of the three notorious real-life serial killers, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and John Wayne Gacy. It just goes to show that when it comes to what's bad taste they have a strangely isolated view as to what to take offense at.

Putting this all to one side though, as typically provocative as one might find (Cardinal Roger Mahony and other Roman Catholic Church officials of Los Angeles are seen holding young boys on leashes and wearing bondage gear) and while it has a fun premise, Hell on Earth doesn't rank as one the boys best work when they're at their pinnacle. The whole concept of Satan throwing a party to merely feed his need for attention does indeed have sparks of wit and inventiveness. The further conceit of party guests that include Adolf Hitler and Gandhi also neatly lends itself to the absurdity of the scenario.

However, the whole side-story involving Cartman, Stan, Kyle, Token, Tweek, and Butters experimenting with a ritual which is a transparent parody of, the 90's horror slasher movie, Candyman to invoke the spirit of the late rapper, Biggie Smalls which does have traces of wit doesn't hold together as cohesively as I would have hoped.

Where the episode in its sporadic interludes from the party works best are those involving Bundy, Dahmer, and Gacy, dubbed The Three Murderers as they ape the vintage comedy trio, Three Stooges, committing bloody acts of murder and sexual deviance while attempting to bake a cake for Satan's party. Mockery has indeed never been more caustic or penetrating. However this really just serves as satirical icing on the cake of the bigger joke which really is there for what it is. It's merely a fun off-the-wall concept that isn't intended to be as biting or thought-provoking as some of their other episodes, and in the end, it just amounts to nothing more than that. Black is at times deeply twisted comedy.

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, it has controversy. Yes, it is dark, but good grief it's funny! The pop culture references, the parodies, are on point. Plus, how adorable does Butters look dancing in his little pyjamas at the end

Great Halloween episode
gangstahippie22 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The Halloween and Christmas special episodes of South Park have always been the better ones in my opinion. Hell On Earth 2006 is a great and funny Halloween episode. Satan wants to have a really good Halloween party just like those "spoiled girls on my super sweet 16". Satan goes through great lengths to make the party perfect while the clergy try to gain passes into the party, but cannot. Meanwhile the boys think if you say Biggie Smalls in the mirror three times, he will come back to life and try to kill you. Butters tries it and Biggie does in fact come back. He then makes Butters take him to the Halloween party, but he keeps getting called back to other kid's bathrooms when they try it. In another part of the episode, Satan wants a Ferrari cake and sends three people to get it. These people are Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy. They try to bring the cake to Satan's party but they keep killing everybody instead. Ted gets mad at them and hits them like Moe does in the three stooges(this part is a spoof of those shorts). Hell On Earth 2006 is a great Halloween episode!

You look like the crow, you look like a rich American teenage girl but I got wise, you're the devil in disguise

Warning: Spoilers
Another episode that gained the attention of the newspaper that I usually read when it was released and certainly that note just said that in South Park Steve Irwin was at a Halloween party. I really wanted to check this episode and finally I could watched it and it is really funny but just for certain things and in other and more direct words, it is mostly like a disappointment since I really wanted that Hell on Earth 2006 could have been one of my personal favourites episodes. The plot is as simple as this: Halloween is near and Satan wants to "confirm" that Halloween is his night, a night of pure evil so he wants to give a big party in California, he want more or less a party like one of those of the spoiled MTV girls, Satan wants his sweet 16 party! So upon this simple story we have certain constants during the episode that are funny but certainly the kids are not on fire and Satan's Halloween party is not that memorable to can make us forget about anything else. The funniest stuff of this episode is the movie of Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy, definitely great gory stuff for a Halloween episode but also and of course really hilarious. I laughed with the other constants, certainly Biggie Smalls will have a difficult time and is hilarious the scene of the priests with kids as pets. The costumes at the party are also great and fun to watch, check the one of Chef, Sponge Bob and before the party the one of the Crow, I laughed very hard in that scene that is more funny when we watch who's sexiest than Satan. Also was kind of cool for me to see that the beer they were drinking at the part was Corona, or at least were the exact same colors. And the Irwin stuff, well he was also drinking Corona and enjoying the Halloween party. On a DVD commentary of Trey Matt they says that if you want to show some "hardcore" stuff the "trick" is to create a character that is against that. So here is Satan who says that is not cool to have a crocodile hunter costume because is just very soon. It is actually a hilarious scene, of course this episode was controversial and of course was hilarious when Satan discovers that is actually the crocodile hunter, no costume no Halloween party!

Then this is a worth watching episode, not as great as I wanted but still I laughed. 8.5 out of 10

One of my favorite episodes!

Satan is one of the most hilarious and outspoken characters in South Park, who happens to be the main attraction in this halloween episode that definitely makes it superior to any other South Park halloween episodes! After watching it once, I was obsessed with the unexpected plot lines and dialogues, had to watch it over and over again!

One of the worst episodes
tim-bayliss6 November 2009
I'm a die hard South Park fan, and have seen every single episode.

Normally I love every episode no matter what Matt and Trey do, but sadly, this has to go down as one of the worst episodes they've ever made.

There really just isn't that much comedy involved.

Matt and Trey are capable of so much more than this.

-

Normally I rate average South Park episodes at 8, because they're always well made, full of laughs, with clever stories.

Sadly this episode is lacking in anything you'd normally associate with Matt and Trey, therefore I give it a 3.

If you could watch only 1 episode of South Park in your life, don't make it this one.
