A similar story would appear in the 1994 comic story "Le Schtroumpfeur de Bijoux" (lit. "The Smurfer of Jewelry" or "The Jewel Smurfer" in English where "Smurfer" means "Thief" in the Smurf language) where Jokey was taken by a couple of entertainers who would have him perform for humans. However, it would vary from "Sideshow Smurfs" in that Jokey would also be forced to steal for his captors.

Goofs
The unscrupulous entertainer Bombast has a bulldog to performed tricks before the dog was replaced by Clumsy and Smurf. However, bulldogs were not used to perform tricks during the Middle Ages (the background of the Smurfs cartoon series), but were solely bred to bait bulls.
