Henry Cavill is understood to have left Simon West's Stratton with just a week to go until filming starts.
It's left the director scrambling to find a replacement lead before cameras start rolling.
The film is hoped to be the first in a franchise based on books by ex-serviceman Duncan Falconer; the first one is based around John Stratton - a special forces operative who works with MI6 to shut down a global terrorist cell.
Empire reports (via Screen Daily) the Man of Steel's exit is down to not being able to make changes he had suggested to the shooting script.
That seems to be backed up by comments from Guy Collins, co-founder of the film's financiers Gfm Films: "[Cavill] told us he has decided not to shoot this script at this time."

“If a director is smart, he’ll give me the elbow room to paint.” So said Gordon Willis, who worked with some very clever directors indeed, who let him “paint” some of the most beautiful and influential movies of the 1970s and made an incalculable contribution to the Golden Age of New Hollywood. The sad news of his death yesterday at the age of 82 has robbed the world of one of the most important artists of the past fifty years.
Nicknamed ‘The Prince of Darkness’ by his fellow cinematographer Conrad Hall, Willis’s trademark was his use of shadows, not just in the composition of scenes but on actors’ faces. The interior scenes in The Godfather (1972) typify this stark technique, as do the underground car park scenes in All The President’s Men (1976), where Hal Holbrook’s “Deep Throat” is rendered faceless by Willis’s photography.

Creative England has chosen 20 new non-London films for production through its inaugural iShorts programme.
The entry level shorts initiative is aimed at film-makers outside of London who have some experience in self-funded shorts or student films, have written an unproduced screenplay, or have produced work that has not yet attracted financial support from within the industry.
Each project receives £5,000 ($8,400) towards its production budget and ongoing support. They have also received production and development training from Creative Skillset.
Film-makers have been chosen from all over the country, including Exeter, Gateshead and Brighton, with projects that include comedy, horror, magical realism, sci-fi and road movies.
Creative England head of film Chris Moll said: “Over 350 applications went through a rigorous process of assessment that included interviews and workshops at our Talent Centres in Sheffield and Brighton. For the talent we are supporting, we hope this will be a pivotal moment in their filmmaking careers.”

Let’s get the story straight or at least as straight as I can remember it. One cold winter’s eve I sat down with a four pack of Burton Baton from Dogfish Head and drank the whole damn thing plus an Insanely Mad Elf and probably some vodka. Maybe more beer. In fact I find it highly unlikely that in the time where I was a freak booze hound with a penchant for micro brews with an abnormally high amounts of alcohol and sugar that I wasn’t pouring at least one more six pack down my gullet. Why do I “confess’ this? Because when I was imbibing the spirits of the season I was watching Silent Night, Deadly Night parts 3, 4 and 5 for the very first time and while I enjoyed 4 and 5 (you know how I feel about 3), part 4 has come to be somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine.

The Man on Lincoln’s Nose (2000), Daniel Raim’s short documentary about legendary production designer Robert Boyle (North by Northwest, The Birds), was nominated for an Oscar; Boyle himself received an honorary Oscar in 2008 at the age of 98. Over the course of several years, Raim continued to film Boyle in candid interviews and conversations with his production design colleagues (Henry Bumstead, Albert Nozaki, Harold Michelson) and cinematographers Haskell Wexler and Conrad Hall, and produced an equally engaging follow-up feature, Something’s Gonna Live (2010).
The film is a warm and contemplative portrait of the aging Boyle and his friends as they visit their old stomping grounds at Paramount Studios and converse about ways the industry has changed, and most importantly, the creative values they learned over the years and hope to preserve. Full of indelible clips, it’s an engrossing movie for movie lovers, and it has recently been released on...

One person from the ‘Breaking Dawn’ cast has a song on the record — is it R-Patz?
The epic track list for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 soundtrack has been released, and we’re So excited!
Sadly, Robert Pattinson does not appear on the record, but we’re thrilled to hear all of the new songs! And we’re even more excited to hear Mia Maestro — who plays Carmen in the movie — flex her pipes on one of the tracks.
Fans will also be thrilled to know that “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” (Wedding Version) by Iron & Wine seems to be the wedding song, and “Love Death Birth” by Carter Burwell will likely accompany the birth scene.

The Scorecard Review news
News: After disappointingly short appearances in last year’s The Expendables, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger are returning in larger roles for The Expendables 2. Sylvester Stallone, who directed and starred in the first film, will not be directing the sequel. He will return as an actor while handing the directorial duties to Simon West (Con Air, The Mechanic).
Source: Deadline
Thoughts by Tsr: Sometimes I find myself quite interested in sequels to films that did not live up to expectations. You know, the movies that seemed to have quite a bit going for them on paper, but then end up being letdowns. Last year’s The Expendables fits that description for me. I’m not a huge action lover, but I found it hard not to be a little excited thanks to the cast that was a who’s who of action stars. Still, it...

I've done a lot of interviews during my time at /Film, but I usually don't have the opportunity to interview cinematographers. However, when the offer came to chat with Roger Deakins, I jumped at the chance. Deakins has helped to craft some of the most memorable images in the history of cinema. His insanely accomplished filmography includes the likes of The Shawshank Redemption, Revolutionary Road, and A Beautiful Mind, not to mention many of the films of the Coen Brothers. This year, Deakins received an Academy Award nomination for his work in the Coen Brothers True Grit (his 9th nomination, although he hasn't yet won). He will also be the recipient of the American Society of Cinematographers Lifetime Achievement Award. Below is an excerpted version of our lengthy conversation. Note that there is a quasi-spoiler for True Grit in the interview. Roger Deakins, thanks so much for speaking with us today.

Robert here, back with another entry in my series on great contemporary directors. I recognize that I'm following up last week's demanding foreign director with another this week. While I usually like to break up the more esoteric filmmakers, something seemed fitting about putting Tarr and Weerasethakul back-to-back. They're so similar yet so different.
Maestro: Bela Tarr
Known For: philosophical films with long takes, mostly his seven hour film Satantango.
Influences: Tarkovsky is obvious. Accroding to Tarr, Rainer Werner Fassbinder most of all.
Masterpieces: Satantango and Werckmeister Harmonies
Disasters: none
Better than you remember: none
Box Office: numbers not available.
It may be required by law that every article, post, discussion about Hungarian director Bela Tarr mention Susan Sontag, the great critic who championed him as one of the few high points remaining in modern cinema, saying of his opus Satantango, "Devastating, enthralling for every minute of its seven hours.

Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J are in talks to star in CBS' "NCIS" spinoff.
The pilot for an offshoot from the hit procedural will air as an episode of "NCIS" this spring, just as the pilot for "NCIS" aired as an episode of "Jag."
