The model's story of throwing an iPod at her assistant's head sounds like a play on real-life supermodel Naomi Campbell, who was arrested for throwing a cell phone at the head of one of her employees.
This episode very closely parallels the murder case of Mark Winger convicted of murdering Roger Harrington and his wife Donnah in August of 1995 in St. Louis MO but with the roles reversed. Forensic Files (1996) aired A Welcome Intrusion (2003) (#8.14) that covered this case.
The Cartier bracelet the victim was wearing is a part of the "Love Collection", and was created in the 1970s, and which Cartier continues to make. It is put on and taken off with a special screwdriver that the person giving the bracelet keeps. The Love Collection is one of Cartier's most famous collections.
