Ames v. Kovac (#13.5)

Warning: Spoilers
A good episode. First of all, I am very happy that Abby made it back to work. All the story about the nanny made me worry she will be nothing but a housewife.

The main part of the episode of course is Luka's court. It is very well done as they keep on showing us how it went on while going through the court.

Great acting, Forest Whitaker is a wonderful guest start selection. Was also happy to see Maggie Wheeler as his lawyer. Was the first time I saw her in a dramatic role and she was great at it as well.

The good part about the story is that while one sees Luka's innocence (after watching 12 seasons one gets how their ER works) one still feels a lot for the poor man whose life was ruined. Looks like Luka won't win, the jury seems to be full of conspiracy fools.

Nicely observed

Warning: Spoilers
The testimony of both Ames and Kovac is littered with flashbacks of the event from their perspectives - including the unreliability of the narrators, emotional colouration, and memory inconsistencies - that is a really great way to show this visually to an audience.

Dustin, though stereotypical of surgeons, does a great job of portraying the toxically alpha male bulls**t I've seen from those of his ilk, and other stereotypical "strong men" types.

This is a really well observed episode - well written, and well directed. I particularly liked Greg and Chas meeting outside the barbershop on the Southside, nice to give Greg some establishment in his community.

Well done as always!

Great action and storyline, the portrayal of what happened to Curtis Ames was amazing. Seeing the interaction from the two vantage points made it very realistic. It was great to see Abby back in action and paired up with Pratt's problem child in Dr. Gates. I'm a little disappointed in Neela's defection to the OR but maybe she will come around to returning to the ER much as Dr. Carter did. I did like the way Abby stood up to the stuffy surgeon who is the attending. She is proving herself capable of being a great doctor with each passing episode. The writing, acting, and action that is put forth every week guarantees that ER is continually successful because it appeals to a huge population base. Every week leaves the audience begging for more and left on the edge of their seats as they wait for the coming weeks episode!!

Was it known before now how incompetent Chuny is?

Warning: Spoilers
Was it known before now how incompetent Chuny is? She had no interest in being attentive to patients, and every response she gave was arrogant and dismissive. She seems to have been the bigger, more direct problem in Ames' negative experience.

The surgeon who seems to be a generic, less masculine version of Romano made an effort to be as annoying as possible. Without the skills and humor of Romano, it is unknown why anyone tolerated him.

ER in da hood

Warning: Spoilers
Thanks to the writers, episodes of this show are now only taking me about 20 minutes to watch. Fast forwarding thru scenes with Pratt and other scenes including stories of the urban blight commentary has limited my actual watching of this show to scenes with only Abby, Kovac and Sam.

Also, trying to replace Romano with this wannabe is pathetic and laughable, almost as poorly done as the attempt to replace Benton with Pratt....and Uncle Jesse is now a regular character - gimme a break.
