Willow Smith is a rising actress and singer. As the only daughter of Hollywood stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, she has worked hard to get out of the shadow of her parents. So far, Smith has been successful in her endeavors and has forged a path for herself that would make her parents proud of her.
Willow Smith is primarily a singer, but she has acted in films and done modeling gigs too, all of which have contributed to her net worth. The 23-year-old has steadily made a name for herself and has become one of the most influential figures in the industry, regardless of her family name.

“Barbie’s” billion-dollar box office haul has opened the door for more feature film adaptations of iconic plastic ladies. American Girls, the 18-inch dolls that had an absolute chokehold over millennial youths, are finally getting their day on the big screen. That’s right: Samantha, Kirsten, Molly, Felicity, Addy (and maybe even a few more — fingers crossed for the ’90s twins) are going to Hollywood.
Fresh off their success from Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster, Mattel Films announced plans to produce another toy-centric flick with Paramount Pictures and Temple Hill Entertainment, based on the American Girl dolls.
Screenwriter Lindsey Anderson Beer, who penned and directed “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” and Netflix’s “Sierra Burgess is a Loser,” is attached to write the screenplay and produce.

Exclusive: Montreal-based film sales and marketing consultancy Film Associates International has unveiled a slew of international deals on new 4K restorations of the work of celebrated Canadian director Patricia Rozema.
New York-based arthouse distributor Kino Lorber has acquired North America for her second and third features White Room (1990) and When Night Is Falling (1995) and U.S. rights for more recent work Mouthpiece (2018).
Regarded as a classic in the LGBTQ+ cinema canon, the lesbian love story When Night Is Falling revolves around a literature professor in a religious college, in a relationship with a male colleague, who embarks on a passionate affair with a female circus performer.
Following its debut at the Berlinale in 1995, its North American release prompted unexpected controversy after Canada’s ‘The Globe and Mail’ dropped an advertisement for the film showing two women kissing, and in the U.S. the Motion Picture Assn. of America applied an Nc-17 rating.

Well here we are. April is going to be a fairly sedentary and isolating month for a lot of people. At least we now thankfully have some guidance as to our entertainment options as HBO has released its new streaming releases for April 2020.
HBO’s original series premieres are pretty busy this month. The fourth season of Issa Rae’s excellent comedy Insecure arrives on April 12. That’s preceded by the fascinating docuseries Atlanta’s Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children and followed by book adaptation I Know This Much is True.
On the film side of things there are a few exciting options. Good Boys arrives on April 4, It: Chapter Two on April 11, and Stuber on April 18. Some older movies arriving on April 1 are Team America: World Police, Die Hard, and Slumdog Millionaire.
Here is everything else coming to HBO Now and HBO Go in April 2020 via HBO PR.

In his first major move since exiting Amazon Studios, distribution executive Bob Berney has teamed with wife Jeanne Berney to reopen Picturehouse, the label he once headed. The Berneys are co-heads of Picturehouse and they made the deal with James T. Volk, chairman and founder of Origin Entertainment, which produced the film along with Elysia Productions and Rose Pictures.

Introduced in 1986, the American Girl brand encompasses dolls and a book series, and features characters with historically based backstories, like Kaya, a Native American 9-year-old growing up in the 1700s, and Josefina, a Hispanic girl from New Mexico in 1824.

An atypical disaster movie, less about the failure of technology than the failure — and perhaps the resurgence — of the human spirit in the face of that. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for stories about women

It wouldn’t take much to destroy civilization: just shut off the power, everywhere, for months on end. Cinematic audiences have been subjected to their fair share of post-apocalyptic films in recent years. Most allegories for Western society's destructive treatment of the environment are told from either a central male protagonist's perspective or from a distinctively male gaze. Into the Forest, Canadian director/screenwriter Patricia Rozema's first feature since Kit Kittredge: An American Girl in 2008, is a cautionary tale of a world without power or fossil fuels but told from a distinguishably (and refreshingly) female viewpoint. Adapted from Jean Hegland's lyrical novel by the same name, Rozema's visceral film features tour de force performances by lead actresses Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood, playing sisters who stave off physical and mental obstacles in order to survive the apocalypse. We were lucky to speak with...

Amazon Studios has closed a multi-year deal with Mattel for four live-action specials based on the toy manufacturer's popular "American Girl" doll franchise. Amazon Studios also has the option to produce multiple seasons of TV series with "American Girl" characters.
Two of the "Amercian Girl" specials will feature characters from the "BeForever" franchise of historical dolls, and one special will feature characters from their Girl of the Year franchise. The first special premieres later this year.
The pricey American Girl dolls were introduced in 1986 and have been adapted for several films in that time including 2008's theatrical release "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" and HBO's "An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strong".

The just-right mix of wistfulness, snark, and painful personal growth makes this nonstop hilarious, with humor that gets women in a way movies rarely do. I’m “biast” (pro): love Amy Poehler and Tina Fey

The Academy has announced the new class of invited members for 2014 and, as is typical, many of which are among last year's nominees, which includes Barkhad Abdi, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong'o and June Squibb in the Actors branch not to mention curious additions such as Josh Hutcherson, Rob Riggle and Jason Statham, but, okay. The Directors branch adds Jay and Mark Duplass along with Jean-Marc Vallee, Denis Villeneuve and Thomas Vinterberg. I didn't do an immediate tally of male to female additions or other demographics, but at first glance it seems to be a wide spread batch of new additions on all fronts. The Academy is also clearly attempting to aggressively bump up the demographics as this is the second year in a row where they have added a large number of new members, well over the average of 133 new members from 2004 to 2012. Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave were two of the 271 artists and industry leaders invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which determines nominations and winners at the annual Oscars. The entire list of Academy membership—which numbers about 6,000—isn’t public information so the annual invitation list is often the best indication of the artists involved in the prestigious awards process. It’s worth noting that invitations need to be accepted in order for artists to become members; some artists, like two-time Best Actor winner Sean Penn, have declined membership over the years.

Pop quiz: What do Chris Rock, Claire Denis, Eddie Vedder and Josh Hutcherson all have in common? Answer: They could all be Oscar voters very soon. The annual Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences invitation list always makes for interesting reading, shedding light on just how large and far-reaching the group's membership is -- or could be, depending on who accepts their invitations. This year, 271 individuals have been asked to join AMPAS, meaning every one of them could contribute to next year's Academy Awards balloting -- and it's as diverse a list as they've ever assembled. Think the Academy consists entirely of fusty retired white dudes? Not if recent Best Original Song nominee Pharrell Williams takes them up on their offer. Think it's all just a Hollywood insiders' game? Not if French arthouse titans Chantal Akerman and Olivier Assayas join the party. It's a list that subverts expectation at every turn.

Many films and books that take place after society has crumbled try to tell large-scale stories where the fate of entire regions or countries is at risk, and nuanced characters are replaced with carbon copied people who rarely screw up what they.re doing. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Jean Hegland.s subdued novel Into the Forest, a novel that will soon be getting a feature adaptation from director Patricia Rozema (Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. The narrative is largely centered on two sisters, now set to be played by Evan Rachel Wood and Ellen Page, which is as good an actress duo as one can hope for in that age range. Early this year, Ellen Page announced that she would star in an adaptation of Jean Hegland’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic novel Into the Forest. At the time, she was the only talent attached to the project; no director, screenwriter or co-stars had even been rumored. Today though, more pieces are falling into place as Evan Rachel Wood has joined as the sister of Page’s character.
Furthermore, Patricia Rozema, who also helmed Mansfield Park and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, is now attached to direct.
Though an official plot synopsis for Into the Forest has not yet been released, more details on what we can expect from the project can be found on the Amazon page for Hegland’s novel:

Julia Roberts is getting into the TV game. The Oscar-winner is developing a TV show called Taming of the Shrew, EW confirms. But fans of the Bard, don’t get too excited — this project is not related to the play of the same name by William Shakespeare. The show has thus far been only described as a half-hour workplace comedy that “follows a horrible boss and the employees trying to reign her in.” Deadline first reported the news.
The project is also not to be mistaken with another workplace comedy Roberts began developing last year, a feature called Second Act.

Patricia Rozema's 1995 film When Night is Falling followed the story of Camille, a "straight" woman who is trying to find happiness in the things that are going right for her. But when her dog dies and she meets an alluring circus performer at the laundromat, things begin to shift, and she can't tell if it's for better or for worse.
Whatever came of the actors and director behind the '90s circus-lesbian flick? We'll tell you!
Pascale Bussières as Camille, a professor at a religious university who falls for another woman
The redheaded French Canadian beauty has starred in several films in her home country, including another gay-themed film, Set Me Free (1999) and one called Replay, in which she was obsessed with her best friend. In more recent years, she's appeared on French TV shows Belle-Baie and Mirador, while continuing to make films. (She's starred in two that came out this year already.

A train crash unleashes a sense of wonder in Super 8.
Writer/director J.J. Abrams’ (Star Trek) science-fiction adventure movie Super 8 offers an almost Spielbergian sense of wonder and adventure. And it’s no wonder, as the 2011 summer hit is co-produced by the legendary Steven Spielberg (Jaws) himself.
The film’s story follows a group of kids in a small Ohio town who witness a catastrophic train crash one night while they’re filming a Super 8 movie. When the group realizes that the crash was more than just an accident, they set out to find the truth — which turns out to be something more shocking than any of them could have imagined.
A lively blend of adventure, action, mystery, science-fiction, humor and, yes, some Spielberg-ish heart, the PG-13-rated Super 8 stars Kyle Chandler (TV’s...

Paramount Home Entertainment has finally announced the release date and details for J.J. Abrams' Super 8 on both blu-ray and DVD. So if you missed out on this film over the Summer (shame on you!) you'll finally get your chance to check it out.
Most of us here at Tmp really loved Super 8. Matt's review was oozing with love for the film, and it was well deserved. Now, fans will have the chance to take this darling home and enjoy it as many times as they want on November 22nd. I know it seems like a ways away, especially considering films like Transformers 3 (which has only been out 2 and 1/2 months) is releasing in a couple weeks. More than likely, however, they're trying to cash in on the Holiday shopping.
I mean, the big films with lots of fan followings (like Star Wars) can release pretty much whenever...

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl was supposed to kick off a bunch of feature films based on the dolls from different historical eras. The 2008 movie wasn't a box office success, so subsequent movies looked doubtful. But, it looks like the next American Girl movie is moving forward as a DVD with Universal Home Video distributing. Newcomer Jade Pettyjohn will play the American girl with Nia Vardalos (My Life in Ruins) and Ian Zierling ("Beverly Hills 90210") starring as her parents. No other details were available about the storyline or which doll the film is about.

[1] Derek Cianfrance's been collecting quite a solid cast for his next project, the "Deer Hunter meets The Godfather" crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines. Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, and Eva Mendes are already on board, with Greta Gerwig circling [2] another part. Now the latest addition to his cast is Aussie actor Ben Mendelsohn, who along with Joel Edgerton and Jacki Weaver has been enjoying a nice (and well-deserved) career boost from the success of last year's Animal Kingdom. The Place Beyond the Pines focuses on a multi-generational feud sparked by an encounter between Gosling’s character, a pro motorcycle rider who turns to bank robbing to support his family, and Cooper’s character, a cop. Mendes will co-star as Gosling's love interest, while Gerwig is up for the role of Cooper's wife. Mendelsohn is in negotiations to play Robin Van Der Zee, a mechanic who pulls Gosling into his bank robbery operation.

The biggest triumph that director J.J. Abrams’ ("Star Trek," "Cloverfield") achieves with "Super 8" isn’t the special effects or the secretive plot; it's the fine group of child actors he's assembled. Not since "The Goonies" has an ensemble of misfits been so entertaining.
In "Super 8," six Midwestern kids witness a mysterious train crash in 1979 while making a zombie film, and strange things start happening. Cue the screams of voice-cracking adolescents. They laugh, they cry, they blow stuff up, they sing "My Sharona." Fun fact: The actors actually wrote and directed the film-within-a-film themselves, so don’t forget to stay for the credits.

Stanley Tucci has some major range.
Just think about it: how many Hollywood stars have the chops to appear in comedies like "The Devil Wears Prada," action blockbusters like "Captain America," family films like "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" and psychological dramas like "The Lovely Bones," which, by the way, Tucci earned an Oscar nomination for? The guy can do pretty much anything.
But he's never done anything quite as big as this.
The speculation can end, because Lionsgate has revealed that Tucci has indeed signed on to "The Hunger Games," where he will play television personality Caesar Flickerman.
For those who don't yet know your Foxface from your elbow, here's the quick scoop: set in a nasty future world where the government is a bunch of jerks, "The Hunger Games" tells the story of a bunch of kids forced to fight to the death on national television basically for giggles and grins.

Few days ago we reported that Will Smith and Jay-z are planning to do that Annie remake, and that Smith’s daughter Willow will (obviously) star in it.
Today, we have the same news, only with official details that Jay-z will team-up with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment as a co-producer on the project.
Sony Pictures Entertainment will help develop the remake.

Willow Smith, the singer of Radio Disney hit "Whip My Hair," may get an acting role that is a real stretch for her: playing Little Orphan Annie. Based on a comicstrip that started in 1924, Little Orphan Annie is a Depression-era tween who lives a miserable existence in an orphanage without a penny to her name. Smith, of course, already has two dedicated parents who have Daddy Warbucks money: Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Willow's dad is reportedly contemplating remaking another movie version of the Broadway musical Annie (the other movie version was in 1982 and there've been some TV versions as well). Elle Fanning (pictured, Dakota's little sister who starred as the title character in Phoebe in Wonderland and voiced a character in Astroboy) and Kyle Chandler ("Friday Night Lights") will star along with kids Gabriel Basso (he played Fake Freddie on "iCarly"), Zach Mills (Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl) and Ryan Lee ("Special Agent Oso") and grown ups Ron Eldard (Mystery, Alaska) and Noah Emmerich ("White Collar").
The storyline of Super 8 is being kept quiet but it's influenced by the movies Abrams and Spielberg grew up watching and loving. Super 8 is a type of film used in a home video camera popular in the 1970s. It's set for release next summer.
