This year, I will be attending my first ever New York Comic Con with a press pass from Popoptiq.com. I am very excited and a little nervous about getting the chance to rub shoulders with 150,000+ comics, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, and video game fans. (Sorry if I forgot your specific niche.) This year, New York Comic Con is really bringing their A-game as far as panels, guests, and even afterparty opportunities. This year’s guests range from Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto to the casts and writers of upcoming genre TV shows like Sword of Shannara, Ash vs. the Evil Dead, and Legends of Tomorrow and of course, a stacked comics creator lineup from living legends like Chris Claremont and Brian K. Vaughan and relatively new stars like Batgirl artist Babs Tarr and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Jughead artist Erica Henderson.

Some people make fun of me for my aversion to camping, but the joke's on them! I've seen way too many movies to not know that no good ever comes from poking around in the woods where you do not belong. At the very least shitting behind a tree sucks. Need another example to embrace civilization?
Below you'll find the trailer and artwork for Bodom, which is coming to us courtesy of Don Films. The Finnish flick, which was written by Taneli Mustonen and Aleksi Hyvärinen, is currently in pre-production.
Synopsis
Every camper’s worst nightmare came true at Lake Bodom in 1960 when four teenagers were stabbed to death while sleeping in their tent. As the years passed and the case grew cold, the unsolved mystery turned into an urban legend, a creepy campfire story passed from generation to generation.

We got a look at some Cannes-specific sales art for for Alberto Marini's new flick Summer Camp today. The movie shot earlier this year and looks to be readying its release. C'mon and dig it.
Thanks to Hitfix for scoring a look and posting this one.
Summer Camp marks the directorial debut of Marini and was executive produced by [Rec] franchise director Jaume Balaguero.
We still don't have a whole lot around this movie aside from a vague concept. Summer Camp centers on three American camp counselors who show up for their summer jobs at an English-language camp in Spain and come face-to-face with a virus unlike anything seen before.
Maybe it's a good thing that there's still some secrecy here. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Look for more on this one soon!

Sporting a cast that should garner the interest of any horror devotee alongside the rapidly genre-embracing Eric Roberts, Harrison Smith's Camp Dread is promising all sorts of old-school delights.
Well, UK fans can find out if it delivers on those promises when Image Entertainment release the flick on DVD on June 23.
From the Press Release:
Imagine a reality show where the contestants – a succession of unpleasant characters – are eliminated not by standard ejection but by hanging, drowning, strangling, beheading and all manner of murderous methods. Welcome to Camp Dread.
A group of misguided young adults – amongst them killers, blackmailers, sex offenders – have been sent to the camp as part of a new reality show. This is their last chance to avoid prison or rehab and if they avoid elimination they could win $1 million along the way.
Manipulating the contestants is down-at-heel horror director Julian Barrett, played by Oscar nominee Eric Roberts,...

The clean, crisp air; the smell of the campfire; the call of nature. (Wait! What?) Yes, those are all wonderful things we associate with summer camp. A time for young people to venture out on their own and have experiences they'll remember for the rest of their lives... even if that's only about another 25 minutes.
The upcoming film Camp Dread, starring Eric Roberts, rekindles all those great memories of summer camp horror movies past, and oh, how we love them.
After becoming the setting of some truly memorable films in the 80's, summer camp has forever been tagged as the perfect hunting ground for the slasher. It's secluded, it's quiet, and it's filled with poorly supervised camp residents and camp counselors. Is there a more perfect recipe for a bloody good time than that? I think not!
So where do we start? Of course with the counselors. Oh those irresponsible,...

Produced by Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films, Josh Anthony’s directorial debut Happy Camp tries to add a little something new to the found footage trope. Anthony was kind enough to take some time to speak with us about his love for the genre amd the challenges of taking the trip to Happy Camp.
He also discussed his high hopes for his first film to be successful enough that he’s allowed to make a second. That’s the dream, right?
DC: There are so many found footage films on the horizon and many that came before. Just to separate you from the pack a little bit, can you talk about the story of Happy Camp?
Ja: I wanted to try to evolve it a little bit more. When we first started doing this, it was a little bit stagnant and everyone was trying to do the Blair Witch model.

Camping. Maybe I'm too much of a diva in that I far prefer shitting in a bathroom rather than behind a tree outside, but nothing good ever happens on such expeditions. Unfortunately for our heroes in Mother Nature, finding the right spot to relieve themselves is the least of their troubles.
Below you'll find some stills, the trailer, and artwork for Johan Liedgren's latest film, Mother Nature, starring Phillip Roebuck, Shawn Belyea, Petra Wright, and Elliot Leidgren.
Synopsis
A father and son face increasingly vicious, erotic, and surreal harassment on a trip to the wilderness of eastern Washington. This is modern man gone camping, forced to find survival in the most primal of places - himself - and discover that survival never comes alone.

It's been 20 years since Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez decided to lace-up his P.F. Flyers and "pickle The Beast." Sunday, April 7 marks the original 1993 release date of "The Sandlot," the classic that celebrates the joys of baseball, summer, and a child's wild imagination. The movie centers around new kid Scotty Smalls and the make-shift baseball team he joins -- despite never having picked up a baseball -- that plays every day at the same sandlot. After a homerun leaves them with no ball to play with, their summer takes an unexpected turn and puts them face-to-face with the kid-eating dog they've dubbed "The Beast." In honor of the anniversary of one of the greatest baseball tales ever told, here are the 20 things we love most about "The Sandlot." 20. It provides the ultimate in summer nostalgia. One of the many reasons why "The Sandlot" holds sentiment for so many people is...

It’s the end of the world. What do you do?
Well, if you’ve been kind to others, you get lifted up to heaven. But if you’ve been partying at James Franco’s house and, in Michael Cera’s case, smacking Rihanna’s butt and blowing cocaine in McLovin’s face, you probably won’t be greeted at the pearly gates anytime soon. Plan B? Camp out at Franco’s house with the likes of Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and Jay Baruchel, obviously. Because if you don’t, you could end up like Aziz Ansari,...

This one’s been on my radar ever since FX artist/geek girl Michele Monaco sent me a frenzied text which read, “Omfg we Must Go to this!!!!” And after speaking with the Great Horror Campout’s publicist, Brett Ruttenberg, I couldn’t agree more.
It's Halloween Horror Nights meets "Blackout" by way of Camp Crystal Lake in the summer! Read on for the details!
From the Press Release:
New in 2013, the Great Horror Campout will bring a unique kind of camping experience to Los Angeles. From Ten Thirty One Productions (creators of the popular Los Angeles Haunted Hayride), the Great Horror Campout will be an overnight, twelve-hour experience that puts campers into an immersive horror camping adventure jam packed with content.
Campers can choose the intensity of their adventure; however, whether they decide to stay in their tents with friends or venture into the darkness is all fair game.

Most actors would run the opposite way at the thought of encountering Stage Fright, but Minnie Drive is diving headfirst into the horror-musical project helmed by Jerome Sable (The Legend of Beaver Dam), and we don't blame her one bit!
Per The Wrap, the British actress joins "Meat Loaf" Aday, Allie MacDonald, and Douglas Smith in the production. Sable, who composed the music and co-wrote the lyrics with Eli Batalion, will direct from his own script. Serendipity Point Films is producing, and shooting begins September 6th in Canada.
Stage Fright tells the story of a posh musical theater camp terrorized by a killer who hates musicals. Driver plays Kylie Swanson, a haunted star of the Broadway stage and mother of two siblings who find themselves at the center of the unfolding horror at the camp. Meat Loaf plays Roger McCall, a slumming Broadway producer-turned-camp director.

Comic-Con kicks off today, July 12, in San Diego. And if you’re not lucky enough to be in San Diego for all the geektastic celebrations (or if you’re just not that into that kind of thing), we have the solution. Take a look at what you can be doing instead.

Time’s a fickle bastard. And it’s rare that a sitcom gets renewed for a third season, much less one that stars a trio of internet discoveries on Comedy Central, which hasn’t had a scripted hit since Chappelle’s Show, whose full number of seasons only stands at two. So to not only give Workaholics—which to reiterate, stars three guys who combined don’t equal even a pinky of Chappelle’s comedic legacy—a third season double the size of the first two is a ginormous vote of confidence. With 20 episodes on the way, the network has to be sure that the boys have more in them than dick jokes and drug-induced behavior.
Or maybe they don’t, and that’s just fine: there’s no need for Workaholics to be about anything more than a bunch of stoner friends enjoying a highly exaggerated post-grad life, but...

Part four of our four part interview with the Little House on the Prairie star
If you've been following our blog for the past few weeks and reading our interview with Alison Arngrim (Little House on the Prairie's Nellie Oleson), you know by now that Little House is a world wide pop culture phenomenon. But did you know there's been a musical made of the story?
Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura "Half-Pint" Ingalls in the TV series is now playing Caroline "Ma" Ingalls on stage. The production started at the Guthrie Theater in Minnesota in 2008 and just recently wrapped up a national tour.
We asked Alison if she knows what's next for the show and about Melissa's stage injury.
Passionistas: Have you been to see the musical?
Alison: Oh, my God. I saw the dress rehearsal. I was in Minnesota for the dress rehearsal,...

Maybe you don’t want to bother with the crowds. Maybe you’re stuck at home because your brother-in-law is coming up for the weekend. Maybe you forgot to buy tickets. Whatever your situation is, it’s a sure thing that you don’t really want to miss Comic-Con but fate has forced your hand, and the rest of you, to stay right where you are. Which isn’t in San Diego (disregard if living in San Diego). But have no fear, dear reader! Toy Story 3 has topped the weekend box office for the second week in row, beating out the debuts of Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups and Tom Cruise’s much-hyped action thriller Knight and Day.
Toy Story 3 (Pixar)
We feel kind of bad for the studios that paid mega millions to land Hollywood heavyweights like Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler for their blockbuster hopefuls, only to see them smashed aside by a bunch of animated toys.
Then again, we’re kind of amused to imagine Tom Cruise squirming after the worst box office debut for one of his action movies in 20 years. Let’s face it Mr. Cruise, you’re just not Top Gun at the box office anymore. All those weird couch-jumping antics and freakish Scientology spewing episodes aren’t making things any easier.

So, Twilight fans are very keen to see their heroes and villains disrobe and suck face and blood in the new film from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which premieres in Los Angeles tomorrow.
This is not news – we all know that self proclaimed Twihards will talk up Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Launter, and the Stephanie Meyer books a storm given half the chance, but the reports coming out of the Huffington Post (among others) of Twilight fans taking over the Nokia Plaza with a ‘tent city’ are testament to the film’s enormous magnetism and how fandom manifests itself.
Twilight Eclipse Premiere Queue - Fans Camp Out
I remember hearing of Star Wars fans camping out in anticipation for the release of The Phantom Menace, and I’m sure that down the years other film franchises have inspired similar events – that the Twilight: Eclipse premiere is the latest will come as no surprise.

Writer/director Bill Bennett might not be a genre mainstay, but he’s certainly been in the filmmaking business a long time. He’ll be taking his first stab at the genre with his newest film, Uninhabited, and we’ve got your first look at it.
Pb Phase put up a groovy little collection of images from this supernatural horror flick in which ”a young couple go to a remote and deserted coral island for a camping holiday, only to find that the island is inhabited by a ghost seeking retribution for a past outrage.”
Click the below image for the full gallery, and watch this space for more, folks. We’ll give it as we get it. We're good like that. We're good in other ways, too, but if we went into those kind of details, this would be a far different website.

MattCanada here with a bit of an overview and Best-Of Gay films for the last decade.
Gay cinema over the last ten years has been intrinsically tied to both the political gains made by gay activists and the intense battles surrounding everything from the worldwide fight for gay marriage to nationally specific issues like America's Dadt and Doma, and Britain's repeal of Section 28. The relationship between the political and the cinematic is always most pronounced in the medium's relationship to minority groups and their texts.
The Aughts have seen gay-rights become the most visible"social values" issue in America, and this has been reflected in a number of high profile American films dealing frankly, sexually, and politically with what it means to be gay in America. Milk, Far From Heaven, and Mysterious Skin employ gay filmmaking traditions, like those of Affirmation Documentaries (Richard Dyer's term), Sirkian melodrama, and New Queer Cinema,...

The Bedtime Stories soundtrack. The problem with Adam Sandler is he isn’t likeable when he’s trying to be. He’s only likeable when he’s playing a loser – as in The Wedding Singer, and Punch Drunk Love. The rest of the time he’s just a bit creepy.
When he branches out into family fare he’s always going to get the lukewarm scripts, he’ll get a bankable seasonal offering, but he won’t get a flagship - not Bruce Almighty, but I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. And when he goes for Christmas feel-good he gets Bedtime Stories, a high concept puff of air, a nothingness of a film, a watered down version of Night At The Museum, which was itself a watered down version of Jumanji. And it’s almost a shame, because The Wedding Singer was great, and Punch Drunk Love is down on his CV for all eternity,...
