The argument caused between Peter and his family by his dislike of Le Parrain (1972) has basis in real life. Series creator Seth MacFarlane (who also voices Peter) is one of the only people on the staff who doesn't like the movie.
While explaining the family history, Peter says that Nate Griffin was only a slave name, with his real name being Richard Bachman. Richard Bachman is the pseudonym used at times by Stephen King. Family Guy later spoofed King's works in Three Kings (2009).
If we would assume that Peter's story about Nate Griffin is real, it would mean that Peter and Lois are actually related.
Peter criticizes Le Parrain (1972) by saying, "It insists upon itself." According to Seth MacFarlane, his college film history professor said the same thing regarding why he didn't think La Mélodie du bonheur (1965) was a great film. The Sound of Music is MacFarlane's favorite film.
