The weakest of the series
chrichtonsworld5 May 2007
Not much is left of the fast paced action from the original "Taxi"! The only connection between this and the previous movies are the cast and a very short appearance of the taxi driven by Daniel (Samy Naceri)! Everything what I liked about the "Taxi" series is gone! Apart from the climax which looked like a parody on Scarface there is not much action to be enjoyed! There are no car chases and none of the spectacular stunts we are used to from the "Taxi" series! That doesn't mean that "Taxi 4" is a bad movie! It has a lot of funny moments and you will laugh! But with the action missing the well balanced mix of humor and action is lost! It was nice to see the main characters some what matured since they have become parents! But it could have been much nicer if they showed more about the relationship between the heroes and their children! I hope this will be the last in the "Taxi" series! Because it only can get worse and that shouldn't happen! "Taxi 4" is a slapstick comedy that surely will find an audience! But my guess is that a lot of fans from the original Taxi will give this a miss!

Disappointing but still likable fourth chapter in the series, with Emma Sjöberg at her hottest
gridoon20247 February 2008
The fourth and last (so far) entry in the long-running "Taxi" series is a mild disappointment. There are few car-chase-and-crash thrills, and lengthy talky passages have taken their place. Instead of a climactic chase, we get a belated "Scarface" parody. However, the enduring appeal of these characters, some good laughs ("Yes, the Belgian confessed everything. We used the opportunity to close a few other cases, too!"), and a fun cameo for football (soccer, for Americans) fans at the start help keep this sequel painless. One of its best points by far is the return of Emma Sjöberg as Petra. In this one, she goes undercover as a brunette, and she reminded me of Jennifer Garner in one of her "Alias" disguises. In fact, considering her Amazonian looks and matching fighting abilities (briefly shown here, but showcased better in "Taxi 2") it's a wonder that her film career basically consists only of this series and a Dennis Rodman vehicle. Silly but funny and very cheerful sequel filled with action-packed , thrills and hilarious set-pieces
ma-cortes12 November 2022
Lots of fun , laughs and car races , displaying nonstop action in Marseille , including chases , tongue-in-cheek and lots of humor . This hilarious film from Taxi series includes a lot of unlucky, clumsy, charming characters , it delivers a funny work , its knack of getting the most out of the quirkie roles and situations without ever going over the top makes for some very big laughs . This one deals with Daniel Morales (Sami Naceri) , the driver of a very special taxi in Marseille, gets a famous soccer player to the stadium in time and after that , he helps his clumsy police friend Émilien Coutant-Kerbalec (Frédéric Diefenthal) catch the nasty Belgian after he escaped on Émilien's guard. But soon the Belgian getaways , and while pursuing him the mates stumble on a bank robbery and a drug king's palatial villa, where the grand finale reeks wreak havoc in Brian De Palma's Scarface style . And teaming up with a botcher group of underdog municipal policemen commanded by stiff Commissaire Gibert (Bernard Farcy) in ¨Police Academy¨ style. The sympathetic cop and his companion and their super-taxi go into action . Out to stop the thief gang . No speed limits the next 90 min.

Diverting and moving French action comedy in which the bungling ordinary squad takes on a dangerous mobster and his hoodlums , including the ordinary actors as Samy Naceri , Frédéric Diefenthal , Bernard Farcy , Emma Wiklund , Edouard Montoute , all of them giving sympathetic interpretations. The jokes come as thick and fast , hit and miss as usual and it is done in good spirit if not always in good taste . So-so entry to the nice series with accent on sight gags , and humour that stems from the diverting roles established in other movies . The agreeable cast formed by the motley group of misfits giving fun interpretation while creating confusion , laughs and mayhem . This thrilling as well as humorous motion picture blends action packed , car chases , comedy , shootouts , rip-roaring and turns out to be pretty amusing . The movie is developed in Marseille , as usual , being extremely bemusing , hilarious and really disconcerting.

The film displays action , comedy , intrigue , tongue-in-check and results to be entertaining enough, though predictable . The premise is simple and plain , as a misfit , botcher but likable team reunited to undertake dangerous missions . There are chases galore in breathtaking velocity and with impressive finale race cars , causing wreak havoc and destruction , being realized by magnificent stunts and including excellent visual effects . From start to finish the action pace is fast-moving , as it provides fast and furious entertainment with spectacular scenes . It's a run-of-the mill action-comedy film but from the initial scenes to final entertainment and amusement is unstopped . The laughters and chuckles are varied and giggles are based about diverse characters and differences of the protagonists , but they're the unlikeliest pals . The film is thrilling and humorous at times but is also ridiculous and embarrassing . However, sometimes is fresh and diverting and on a couple of memorable occasions , it's frankly delicious .

Lively and atmospheric musical score adjusted to the action composed by means of synthesizer . Glamorous and colorful cinematography by cameraman Pierrre Morel .This French buddy-cop movie was lavishly produced by great producer and director Luc Besson and regularly directed by Gérard Krawczyk . The funny Taxi series ordinarily played by a foul-mouthed Cabbie : Sami Narcery joining forces with a bungler police inspector , a loser named Emilien : Frederic Diefenthal, along with Bernard Farcy , Marion Cotillard . The original titled Taxi (1998) by Gerard Pires was followed by four sequels : Taxi 2 (2000) , Taxi 3 (2003) y Taxi 4 (2007) and Taxi 5 (2018) with Franck Gastambide , Salvatore Esposito , Edouard Montoute , Alain Trésor, Anouar Toubali ; most of them directed by Gerard Krawczyc and same actors and an American version Taxi (2004) by Tim Story with Queen Lafitah , Jimmy Fallon . The flick will appeal to adrenaline lovers and those young people looking for amusement and strong emotions . It's a must see for the cars buffs and Taxi series enthusiasts .

Please, end it here.
LazySod16 February 2007
In 1998 taxi pizza delivery guy Daniel became a taxi driver. One that made the streets of Marseille a dangerous place. Emilien, a cop, was there to work against him, and later with him, in pursuit of a gang of bank robbers. This film was fast paced, had a high comedy factor, insanely fast chase scenes and a compelling story. Two sequels were made. Part II was good, part III was OK.

Now, Daniel and Emilien return to the screen once more. The story picking up where part III left of - both have a son. The rest of the storyline is continued as well, for the most. Which also means most of the characters from the earlier films return too. The fast paced action is there too, just not in the same amounts as the earlier films. And that's where the painful truth lies. The cow has been milked empty - Taxi 4 is an insult to the first film. There was in total about 15 minutes of worthy film material in this one, and all the rest was rehashed, and badly at that, old material.

Anyway, the story in short: more adventures in Marseille with a fast taxi and a slow cop. But not as good as the previous ones, and hopefully the last in the series. The steady decline in quality after the first one is painful to the brain.

4 out of 10 cops run of the road.

taxi 4 needs a follow up!
woutos1 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Taxi 4

I am a total fan of the taxi movies! I also do agree with all the comments above that taxi 4 doesn't compare to the other parts of taxi! In general I was also asking the question why all movies have to end with a trilogy? Why not 4 or 5? It seem to work with the bond movies! Some are bad and some are excellent! The ingredients of the taxi movies are excellent but the script was quite lacking this time!! Luc Besson has to make a part 5 to keep all lovers satisfied!! Though it is nice to see all actors are still in place! Like family you haven't seen in a long time! Commissaire gilbert is far out the most excellent person in the movie! The part of Belgium Vlaanderen is known for speaking dutch and from the Brussels region it is french and dutch so one comment isn't quite fair to say they got it wrong with the language! The bank-employee was from Brussels so it could be true! However the french are known for being very chauvinistic so if you look closer to this movie and for example wasabi and earlier taxi parts you notice Japanese people, and Germans speak perfectly french! I think it is better to make the movie more international with other languages spoken. Not just one phrase in German or Japanese and that's it... The car in this movie is hot!! I do hope everybody agrees in that?!

taxi 4 a movie that does not follow the trilogy
b01384715 March 2007
The worst of all the taxi movies. A beautiful car is the only positive object in this picture; Not enough actions scenes and comedy scenes like in the other pictures. You have to be a Belgian for really understanding the dialogs in this movie. Furthermore the dangerous criminal is known as the biggest Flemish menace, apparently the French have forgotten that in Flanders the people speak Dutch.

The big lack in this movie is the absence of hot pursuits of the taxi driver like in the other three movies. It's a summery of copies of good scenes from the previous movies but it lacks the magic and comedy of the other taxi movies.

The original Luc Besson movie is far more better then this one.

T4XI goes 4 (a ride)
kosmasp10 October 2007
The overall impression here on IMDb is, that this movie is bad (maybe even badder than part 3). But I think this is a vast improvement on part 3. Especially the beginning, where you get all the silly action you were used from the first two parts, woven into a "real event" (a soccer thing).

Again there will be many things that will challenge your brain, but this wasn't any different in the previous movies. What is different, are the car chases (there are fewer shown here). But then again, how many car chases must there be? I think there are enough car chases to be found here. The silly story is good enough and most of all, I felt the same flair as I did, with the original two Taxi movies. And I think it's a good thing, that one character that was present throughout the first three movies, is absent in this one (I guess it was due to the fact, there was no agreement with that person, but it still is better for the movie, because there is more time for other things).

How to destroy Taxi
Overflood8 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
When you go into the cinema , lets be honest you do not expect much from this movie.(After taxi 3 most fans of the series learned to lower their expectations) But after approx. 1,5 hours you realize , you have seen a movie with a "story" not worth mentioning , no real action just a few attempts on creating jokes out of nothing (last big shooting scene ) , no car chases (the car itself moves just around 10 minutes max)the characters are far beyond the line where it is funny to be idiotic , all the so called jokes give you the felling "Somebody tried very hard to be funny without reaching it ever" Take the kids of the main characters for example , the only reason why they are in the movie is to create 15/20 minutes , which can be used to fill the gaps in this 90 minute long movie.I don't even start to think about creating some new jokes , or scenes , noooo...The things making the watcher of the series laughing in Tax 1/2 may have been good , but to simply copy them and "re-selling"them with different labels is simply lame...... So all the things that made Taxi 1/2 a good movie are simply not present here.If the movie at least had some real action , or a few good jokes i would have given it a 6. I have spent approx 5 euros to watch this one .....If you do not want to spend your money on 1,5 hours of nothing ...go and buy a rose for your girlfriend...

T4XI 4... a little too taxing I'm afraid!
benzeebug16 May 2007
If you loved Taxi 1 & 2, but weren't too impressed with Taxi 3, then you may not want to bother seeing Taxi 4, (called T4XI in France), as it may upset you to see what has become of the crazy, cool, action packed and funny, original classic. Sure, the whole gang are all there, but unfortunately the action isn't. There must have been less than 20 minutes of decent chases, crashes and other action in the entire movie, and the gags and humor were getting a little tired after the 3 previous movies. I didn't hate the movie but I wished I'd spent my money on something else once I discovered it paled into insignificance compared to the original. I'm not sure what Luc Besson was up to, or was on, when making this movie, but I find it interesting that there's a new 'mobile internet' website for finding taxis on your mob phone with the exact same name, ( t4xi.mobi ), and that on you-tube right now there's ' T4XI ' video clips all over the place! Whether this is some last minute attempt to cross market or boost ticket sales, I don't know, but it's interesting to note that the t4xi.mobi site appeared at almost the same time as T4XI, the movie. Hmm... Could be marketing, but could be just coincidence. It's so hard to tell nowadays! Anyway, after seeing Taxi 4, I was thinking that maybe I'd just out grown that sort humor, but no, it wasn't that at all. It was just plain b- ! I can't bring myself to say that 3 letter 'b' word, not of Luc Besson, so I'll just say it was lacklustre! I really think T4XI has taken its last ride!

Little high speed action but still very funny
Tweekums22 May 2019
After a prologue where taxi driver Daniel helps football star Djibril Cissé get to the stadium just in time for his first match in Marseilles we get to the main story. A Belgian criminal, known as 'Le Belge' is to be held in Marseilles as he changes plane on the way to his trial in the Congo. Not surprisingly things go very wrong. Le Belge manages to persuade policeman Emilien that he is actually an attaché at the Belgian embassy and that the real criminal escaped before boarding the plane to Marseilles. Once released he takes Daniel's taxi to freedom. Emilien is sacked but with Daniel's help he works to recapture Le Belge with the help of Daniel.

It must be said that for a 'Taxi' film this is somewhat lacking in the series' trademark high-speed action; thankfully it is still hilarious... of course humour is subjective but I enjoyed it so much I laughed till it was hard to read the subtitles! The humour was delightfully silly; a police chief shooting himself with a tranquiliser; a criminal in a leather gimp suit and a protagonist fails to recognise his wife just because she was wearing a wig. The cast does a solid job with most of the regulars returning, although Marion Cotillard is no longer present. Overall I'd recommend this to fans of madcap comedy; just don't expect the high speed hijinks of the previous films.

These comments are based on watching the series in French with English subtitles.

Rollicking fun
ellisfamily2 March 2009
I watched this movie with subtitles, having not seen the previous 3 films. I enjoyed the format, not knowing that previous episodes supposedly offered more/better car chases according to other commentators.

The Inspector irritated me, until I bought into the Pink Panther / Insp. Jacques Clouseau homage (http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=Pink+Panther&x=23&y=7) and "Silence of the Lambs" / Hannibal Lecter thing, then I just rode the wave of good humour and rollicking fun.

This movie was always meant to be taken lightly rather than literally or (worse) earnestly.

Taxi 4 - the dumbest of the series. Hopefully there won't be Taxi 5
vlahov8 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Such a sorrow in the heart is to say this is the dumbest thing produced by Besson ever. No wonder why such a brilliant actor as Marion Cotillard have decided to not participate. The so called plot is being tied with white string all over, not to say about the moronic behaviors of all characters. Monsier Besson obviously was in deeper need of cash, there is no other explanation of such a turkey. The final scene where commissar Gilbert is trying to demolish his entire team by shooting them first with machine gun then with missiles is so pathetic it's even funny. Hopefully this is the very end of the merchandise. This movie does not deserve 10th line but here it is - I give it 1/10 just because of the old glory.

Where the hell was the action?
Sandcooler21 May 2010
A "Taxi"-movie without a single actual car chase in it? Seriously Luc Besson, at least pretend to care. Yet another top criminal is on the loose, and the ways of capturing these villains get less inventive with every new sequel. In this one they really just shadow him for a while to find out where he lives and then they like, go there, end movie. Quite a stretch from the hilarious ending to the original I'd say. Nobody bothered to come up with jokes, so they just exaggerate every character and hope somebody laughs at that. The little realism the series had in the first place is all gone, but hey at least we get some retarded cartoon slapstick to even it out. It appears that the makers also realised what a dud they were making, so they crammed in a cameo by soccer star Djibril Cissé that has absolutely no connection to the plot. How sad is it that these truly desperate unrelated scenes are actually the highlights of the movie? Not that they're any good, but they do have Djibril Cissé. Better pray they'll leave "Taxi 5" in the fridge.

A good revisiting with old friends
dbborroughs24 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
After the misstep of the American Taxi film (which compressed the three French films into one gender reversed tale) Luc Besson tries to strike gold again with a new film with the original cast.

Picking up several years after the last film, with the two buddies Taxi driver Daniel and Cop Emilien dealing with their own kids as well as a Belgian super criminal the police force is assigned to watch for 24 hours. Of course things go wrong and the criminal escapes leading to assorted troubles along the way.

Its an amusing revisit with some good friends. More amusing than than funny (though there are enough laughs to make it worth a trip) this is a rambling film that would have been better had it not been a Taxi film. Forgive me, the previous Taxi films have set a rather high bar for controlled insanity and car chases. here there is insanity and silliness, but of a kinder gentler sort. Other than the opening get the passenger to the soccer pitch there really isn't any car chases and Daniel is given very little to do but be a dad, which is fine, but I really wanted another chase or two. Those wanting action scenes will not be disappointed by the over the top send up of Scarface that ends the film, which does provide the film with some solid laughs.

I liked the film. I laughed a great deal. I shouldn't be picky especially since the characters are still the characters and anytime with them is well spent.

If you're a fan this is definitely worth a look. If you've never seen a real Taxi film (The American version does not count) see one of the others first (preferably all of the others in order they are some of the best comedies of the last 10 years)

This was wrote by Luc Besson!
Bonnascope15 July 2016
I saw the third one jaundiced, but this one is deeply bad. It's normal that Marion Cotillard didn't return, actually that decision give her the Oscar for choosing "LA VIE EN ROSE". The plot it's so simple has a child movie, with constant "hommages" to "SCARFACE". It seems that Luc Besson wrote only for the money and with no interest at all, and I can believe that we talk about the same guy he wrote "LEÓN", "NIKITA" and "THE FIFTH ELEMENT".

The history tries to be supported with it's characters' jokes and with the action. But in this one, the characters here are abnormal and the action in addition it's forced sometimes is almost non- existent.

The only normal character is Daniel (Samy Naceri), you look at his face and it seems that the actor wants to return home with his family in every scene. The other characters have already became retarded. Émilien (Frédéric Diefenthal) is dumb and unable to do nothing without Daniel's corrections, and sometimes he acts like a damn baby who doesn't even know that 1+1 is 2. For example, the scene were he's incapable to recognize his wife Petra, only because she's wearing a brown peruke (and nothing else)... That burned by brain down. One thing is Clark Kent's glasses, but this is STUPID.

And the rest of the characters are not better... If the earlier films Gibert, was dumb, in this one... Even Émilien and Daniel's children's doesn't in the movie. The children's are only there for one sequence, when they help one of the Belgian's thugs, who's is a "professional" who cannot use a computer.

The villain, is flat and unfunny to me, I don't know if he's great or not in his country, but he doesn't make me laugh. The actor seems he's always trying to stand out, but the bad script stops him.

Even the TAXI has presence in the film. Only in the first sequence and that all, and it's actually the one who's in the TITLE.

The movie is garbage, I have seen Z movies with better scripts and smart characters. Don't waste your time watching it.

Effective in its genre
norbert-plan-618-71581331 October 2022
Luc Besson takes the same people, technical teams, screenwriter, cast, and it starts again. Here, the franchise continues with the same story, the same actors and the same dramatic arcs. Here the villains are Belgian. The same gimmicks articulate the story. The qualities or characteristics are still there. The images of Marseille, the speed and the cars, the heavy gags, the direction of the actors, and the shocking images, in particular of the Belgian killer in his costume, for a mixture that progresses quickly and always holds in the ninety minutes, without dead time, to go straight to the point.

It emerges, as in each episode of the franchise, a form of freedom, a form of unabashed audacity that mixes vulgarity, misogyny, xenophobia, humor without complex, for a breviary on the clichés that it is possible to find in a fiction. Apart from this assumed perspective of not wishing to please an elite, which works perfectly, the film may lack subversion, but remains effective in its genre.

The engine starts to stall.
kelvinselimor21 June 2023
Taxi 4. The engine starts to stall. Unfortunately, the 4th movie of the funny and fast franchise about taxis and the police is already starting to slow down. The new film rests only on the chemistry between the main and secondary characters, and the plot itself is no longer very interesting, the next main antagonist is presented as probably the main horror of all 4 films, and in the end (spoiler) turns out to be an empty shell. Otherwise, it's all the same Taxi. Only it seemed to me that this same Taxi was already receding into the background, and the jokes that the police were not able to cope with their work were put in the forefront.

Time to stop and park the car....
stefrance991 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of Taxi and the sequels, however I have to say that too much is too much. Besson movies are going from bad to worst. Yes Commissaire Gibert is still as funny, yes Emilien is as clumsy and yes Petra is still one of the Hotest woman on earth (especially with her German accent in French), but no they can't save the movie. Daniel and the drive stunt are almost inexistent in the movie and aside from seeing the pair seating in the taxi spying outside the Bank and then outside the Villa there is nothing to be amazed with. Is it because of the real life judicial troubles of Daniel actor's Sami Naceri that prevented a more important presence in the movie? Possibly, but then why did Besson had to release the movie that early? Greed may be? The humour is there, some action too, but the spirit is gone. It's a barely OK movie, already many fans found it disappointing, it was may be the movie too much. Do not spend money to watch it, this is my only advice to not feel robbed. And for Luc Besson it's about time that he drops is big head of having been one of the few French movie directors to have made it to Hollywood and that he goes back to the movie style we loved from him (Big Blue, Leon/The professional, the 5th Element, Taxi 1&2, Angel-A...)

Sequels May Be Great!
denis88815 April 2007
Taxi 4 is great! It is so light, so optimistic, so unabashed and so well done that leaves only good impressions. Usually, the sequels and moreover all other continuations do not work out, but this did it. 91 minutes of the film fly so quickly that at the end you need more of this merry, funny, witty work. All the beloved heroes are here – silly Police Chief with all his crazy ideas, pot-smoking Rasta cop, slightly slow Afro-American cop, and then, the excellent trio of main heroes – Mr. Taxi Driver, Daniel; clumsy and sluggish Emelienne and then his super wife, Petra. This trio holds the whole film well, but then without all the secondary characters it also would be impossible to make this movie so good. The Belgian criminal, slightly stupid gangsters, terribly inept policemen, shoot-outs, chases, fights, drugs, football – everything is mixed up and served so hot, so immediate, so tasty and so refreshingly funny. This is a great example that Part Four sometimes may be very good.

why?
martinsleipnes13 August 2007
this is the first serious comment I'm trying to make on IMDb.com I'm a serious movie lover --> i watch a lot of movies.

i don't care if this comment doesn't make it till the front page, for everyone to read, but i just got to get this of my chest: this is, by far, the worst movie i have ever seen. bring me "glitter", bring me "crossroads", bring me "spy kids 3d", bring me "son of the mask".

if i had the choice of watching the four movies listed over in a Saturday night movie marathon, i would seriously have problems making the right decision.

the acting i terrible, the script is some of the worst i have ever seen, the plot is hopeless, the action scenes are dull and short, the humor just simply isn't there.

i only got one question left why did i pay real money to watch this?

Awful 4 out of 4 (movies)
pripyat4 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a complete joke, not even going to mention the rip off from Scarface. Way too much joke or funny scenes. They try too much and now their scenes that are meant to be funny are now just stupid. I honestly could have created a better plot in an hour. Marion Cotillard is not in the Fourth movie cause she noticed that the movies are going worst and worse. This movie doesn't really have a story, its like an episode but with fantasy. When Daniel's car is changing to a race car its looks very fake. The jokes are not funny anymore. The Director should have stopped after Taxi 2, but now its cars flying, police station a collection of drugs. Just do your self a favor and don't watch this movie.

Warning: Spoilers
The movie only have two car scenes with the taxi, and the plot is around a bad belgian that is like bad boys 2 villian, make jokes while theres alot of scary scenes, toilet jokes, french jokes...so is like bad boys 2 with emilien and daniel working togheter.

Between the slow times , only two taxi scenes, and mostly a heist and police jokes-wrok like in other movies, like bad boys 2, this could have been better. It was slow paced, many time to introduce the sons of daniel an emilien, and alot of time to show the dumb cops, but not alot of car scenes. With less scenes and more fast, could have been better.
