I really think that the film makers who made SLASHER FLICK were not attempting to create CITIZEN KANE or even a typical independent film. Instead, it strongly bears the look and feel of a fan flick--a film done by amateurs about a topic they adore and that isn't intended for mainstream entertainment. This would be supported by the fact that this was shown at the New York Horror Film Festival--not Sundance! Because of this, I am NOT comparing the film to other styles of films--just fan flicks. In this light, this is a very good and enjoyable short film and I am sure the fans at the festival cheered for it--it does celebrate the genre and make fun of it...a bit.
The film shows some guy watching a slasher film marathon on television but he's having a heck of a time getting the portable t.v. to work. Out of the blue, a REAL slasher appears and chases the hapless victim for most of the film. There are lots of cute twists and turns and made me laugh a few times. Well done....but not CITIZEN KANE---but would you expect that from this type of film?!
