Although we've only seen two episodes so far, FX's American Horror Stories has already given us a new iconic character in the premiere: Sierra McCormick's Scarlett, aka the Rubber Woman. The prickly Scarlett becomes one of Murder House's latest victims after her dads (Matt Bomer and Gavin Creel) buy it to flip it into an upscale haunted-house experience. After a few nights in her new home, Scarlett's dark side intensifies when she puts on Tate Langdon's old gimp suit, and she spares no one who scorns her, especially not the mean girls at school. McCormick delivers a tour-de-force performance that explores every creepy and complicated aspect of Scarlett's character. So who is McCormick, and where might you have seen her before? Here's what to know about the 23-year-old actress's impressive résumé!

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.
Today we talk about a personal favorite: Taye Diggs! The incredibly versatile performer has made his mark in theater, television, film over the past three decades. Conor and I are joined by filmmaker & creator of the Afro Horror Pod Sade Sellers to discuss all things Taye. The B-Sides we cover today include: horror remake House on Haunted Hill, John McTiernan’s last film Basic, the Paula Patton-led rom-com Baggage Claim, and the complicated (and unsettling) ‘Til Death Do Us Part.
This is one of our longest, most wide-reaching, and most rewarding episodes to be sure. We reference a great podcast Diggs did with Van Lathan from a few years back, in which he touches on the struggles of being Black in Hollywood.

I’ve got an intense trailer here for an upcoming backwoods murder mystery thriller called A Dark Place. I enjoy a good murder mystery film and this one actually looks like it could be pretty good.
When a young boy turns up dead in a sleepy Western Pennsylvania town, Donald, a local garbage truck driver, takes it upon himself to play detective. He embarks on an obsessive investigation to prove that the boy had been murdered, leading to unthinkable and harrowing consequences.
The movie stars Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Victor Frankenstein, Alice Through the Looking Glass), with a supporting cast that includes Bronagh Waugh, Denise Gough, J.D. Evermore, Griff Furst, and Sandra Ellis Lafferty.
A Dark Place was directed by Simon Fellows and it will be released on April 12th.

There’s no denying that Deadpool is currently one of Marvel’s hottest commodities. With a highly successful movie under the Merc with a Mouth’s belt and a sequel in the works, it only makes sense that the House of Ideas have the popular anti-hero headline more than just one comic book.
When issue #28 arrives, writer Gerry Duggan and artist Salva Espin will be the ones to kickoff the “’Til Death Do Us…” six-issue crossover also set to involve Spider-Man/Deadpool and Deadpool & the Mercs for Money.
It’s inevitable that most of us settle down and tie the knot at some point, but it’s not every day that someone exchanges vows with a demon succubus. Well, Wade Wilson isn’t the average person, so seeing him go through with something such as that doesn’t surprise us too much.

We look back at an often-overlooked part of the Ghostbusters legacy: it's Extreme Ghostbusters...
There was a time when no one cared about Ghostbusters. It was the late 90s - the pre-Pokemon, post-Mighty Morphin Power Rangers days to be exact. Nobody’s kid was exactly clamouring for a sequel, reboot, or a Ghostbusters continuation of any kind - except for Dan Aykroyd, who was practically lobbying for a third instalment while sitting front row at the Ghostbusters II premiere. Which is why we have this: an awkwardly timed, tonally disruptive Ghostbusters animated series.
Enter a brand new cartoon that picked up the sticky, ectoplasm-covered mantle of The Real Ghostbusters and wore it slightly askew to evoke that wholesome sense of 1990s irreverence: Extreme Ghostbusters.
Living up to its name, Xgb was extreme indeed. One glance at its radically inclusive team line-up is all you need to notice that.

J.B. Smoove is having a very good summer. The comedian is thrilled about the recent announcement that HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” will return for a ninth season, and he cannot wait to see himself on “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” Jerry Seinfeld’s runaway hit of a web series, which premiered today on Crackle with Jim Gaffigan in the passenger’s seat.
“I don’t know what’s more fun, hearing that ‘Curb’ is back, or actually shooting the season and hearing it comes on tonight, you know what I mean?” the comedian told IndieWire by phone on Wednesday.
Known for his singular cadence, Smoove got his start on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” wrote for “Saturday Night Live” in the early aughts and became a household name with shows like “The Millers,” “’Til Death” and Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Some fans may know him best from “Curb,” but Smoove was well known to other audiences long before that.
“’Curb’ definitely opened crazy new doors and new avenues for me, a new demographic, if I may say that,” said Smoove. It also changed what was expected from him on other projects: “People are more lenient, they’d rather see your take on things since you come from an improv based show.”
Earlier this week, Smoove hinted that “Curb” might be returning for a ninth season during an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” saying Larry David had gauged his interest during one of the pair’s bi-monthly phone conversations. Smoove said he would make himself available. “It’s still fun to see Larry’s damn face, always good to see Larry.”
David is not the only “Seinfeld” creator in Smoove’s life, though he is admittedly much closer with David. Smoove first met Seinfeld while doing an episode of his short-lived reality show, “The Marriage Ref.” A car fanatic, Smoove was a big fan of the web series. “Every season I’m like, ‘Damn! When is Jerry gonna call me to do this damn show?’” Call he did, and the two Jerries had a grand ‘ole time.
“My real name is Jerry, his name is Jerry. Jerries are a very particular animal. Jerries are actually the leopard of the animal species. We have a very particular pattern of things we do, a very particular style,” Smoove said.

The show has been a surprise hit. (In early episodes, almost every comedian ribs Seinfeld about doing a web show). Now in its eighth season, the previous season took the internet by storm when President Obama appeared on the first episode.
Filming is fast and pleasant, according to Smoove: “Jerry picks you up in the car, you talk about the car for a few minutes. You get in the car, you go get coffee, you sit there and you talk about life, love, career, kids, wife, anything.” That’s a pretty accurate description of what happens in each episode.
The result is a very candid conversation between two comedians at the top of their craft about what they see as the world’s greatest profession. “The comedian is that person who can take tragedy and still be able to give an audience something to go home with,” said Smoove.
The two “Seinfeld” creators are more different than they seem, according to Smoove. “Larry’s a little more neurotic, Jerry seems very outgoing and has lots of energy. You can tell when his eyes light up, certain things he loves,” Smoove said. “Larry is very observant. Larry will walk around a party with his hand in his pocket and just sit there and nod his head and watch people.” After working with both, Smoove can see why the two worked so well together. “It’s the little nuances in life, the little bits of humor that people can relate to,” he said. “That’s what made ‘Seinfeld’ so amazing which also makes ‘Curb’ so amazing.”

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” finds humor in the cringeworthy situations Larry David gets himself into. Almost every character on the show is a foil for Larry’s neuroses, but not Leon, the character Smoove plays. “Larry gets something from Leon that he can’t get from anybody else on the show. He gets honesty, he gets someone who has his back, someone who agrees with him, who can say: ‘You’re damn right, Larry.'” Some people claim the show is too painful to watch. “You know why? Because it’s too real,” says Smoove.
Smoove’s episode of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” will air sometime in the next eight weeks. It appears Seinfeld is just as secretive as David when it comes to his shows. Smoove has no idea what is in store for Season 9 of “Curb,” because “Larry is very secretive.” Even if he weren’t, Smoove says he never looks at the 6-7 page script outlines for the improvised show, because he “think[s] it would take the edge off the funny.”
What he can say about “Comedians in Cars” is that things will definitely get personal. “They’re gonna see a deeper side of Jb.” If his deeper side is as unique as his funny side, it’s going to be a very interesting ride.

It's wedding season! That means expensive dresses and/or suits for the various parties, wild reception shenanigans and hopefully, everlasting love. Or in some cases, just the first two. Just in time for that destination wedding you shelled out $500 on airfare towards, plus the tux/dress, plus the gift … here are the 16 things Redditors witnessed at a wedding that convinced them the union they were there to celebrate just wasn't meant to last. 1. There was this woman walking around during the reception placing bets on when they would divorce. I later found out she was the mother of the groom.

The Comedians’ Stephnie Weir on Hollywood’s ‘Brutality,’ Dysfunctional Producers, and Funny TV Women
No offense to Billy Crystal and Josh Gad, ostensible stars of FX’s The Comedians, but Stephnie Weir is its breakout performer. Crystal and Gad play themselves playing themselves as the hosts and lead players in an FX sketch series called The Billy & Josh Show. But as their perma-flustered, Über-awkward producer Kristen Laybourne, MADtv vet Weir wrests laughs from the aforementioned heavy hitters with an improviser’s knack (she’s a Second City alum) for playing overwhelmed and anxious. It’s an overdue opportunity for the Texan native who, since leaving MADtv, has guest-acted on assorted sitcoms (Modern Family, ‘Til Death) while writing and consulting for others (The Millers, Raising Hope); produced a two-man show/video series with husband Bob Dassie dubbed WeirDass; and been either cast for or tapped to write/produce several network pilots, including David Wain’s almost-was Brenda Forever and a still-in-process ABC half-hour about an...

Villains have encapsulated some of the most iconic characters in cinema history and have made their presence known in every genre. As time has progressed and cinema has evolved, so too has the villain and the qualities that they possess. The trend has now become that to make a great villain, they need to be very complex and layered and somehow relatable to the audience. To put it simply, a villain is, in a movie, the Yang to a hero/heroine’s Yin, a perfect balance.
The legendary Dolph Lundgren once said that every action movie is only as good as its villain, and that statement couldn’t hold more merit. In my opinion, action movies have by far given us the greatest villains. The most satisfying cinema experience (at least to me) is being exhilarated and dazzled by furious action sequences to then be paid off by seeing these...

The most satisfying cinema experience (at least to me) is being exhilarated and dazzled by furious action sequences to then be paid off by seeing these...

Universal Soldier began in 1992 before suffering from some tawdry sequels. Then John Hyams revived the franchise in spectacular fashion...
The Universal Soldier films are a strange case of life imitating art. Much like how series protagonist Luc Deveraux is killed in action then resurrected into something post-human, Universal was a pretty standard 90s action film which crashed and burned when it came to sequels, but became something unique and beautiful when it was reanimated for the straight to DVD market.
It’s a hushed secret among genre fans, but Universal Solder 3 and 4 (or possibly 5 and 6, it’s complicated) are some of the most remarkable action sci-fi films of the 21st century so far. Yes, really. I actually watched the series backwards when I first saw them, after being blown away by Universal Solder Day Of Reckoning and deciding to work my way back, and Roland Emmerich’s perfectly acceptable 1992 blockbuster...

Television without game shows has just gone wrong, and even if there is a whole network devoted to them (which puts out original efforts), and there are a few primetime stabs at the general idea, the genre is decidedly missing from the landscape. Enter Craig Ferguson and Celebrity Name Game. The syndicated show is kicking off soon, and will be airing in virtually every market. The show boasts a casual atmosphere, and the chance for contestants to team up with celebrities for a chance at $20,000.

Updated: Comedy writers Alex Barnow and Marc Firek are staying at Sony TV but no longer exclusively as a writing team. The Mr. Sunshine co-creators have closed their first individual two-year overall deals with the studio after four consecutive overall pacts there as a duo. They still intend to work together but will also develop on their own. Barnow and Firek had been a team since meeting at a backyard barbecue/political fundraiser 15 years ago. A gig on the Sony TV-produced comedy ‘Til Death led to their first overall deal with the studio. They have been at Sony ever since. Barnow and Firek worked on the studio’s CBS comedy series Rules Of Engagement before they co-created with star Matthew Perry Mr. Sunshine. The two, repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson, are currently executive producers/writers on Sony TV’s ABC comedy The Goldbergs, which is returning for a second season.
