By this point, the zombie genre has been picked over like a vulture pecking at a skull. We’ve seen the zom-com; the rom-zom-com; Nazi Zombies; “Flight Of The Living Dead,” with zombies that happen to be a on a plane; “Gangs Of The Dead,” which is sort of like a “Zombies N’ Da Hood” type film (no, really); and pretty much any iteration of zombie you can think of is out there, though much of it is straight-to-video Z-movie junk. But hey, why not make a zombie movie where the undead face off against scouts? That’s the clever premise of “Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse,” which sounds like an excuse to just riff on the “what would you do during a Zombie Apocalypse?" meme that has invaded pop culture. Crammed in a metal tube over 40,000 feet in the air is one of the worst situations to be in when the zombie infection hits, but that's exactly where AMC is taking viewers in an upcoming half-hour special that will feature a future Fear The Walking Dead character.
EW reports that AMC is developing a standalone special set in the shared world of Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead. The half-hour special / prequel will follow "a group of passengers facing a walker attack on an airline while in flight. One character who survives that encounter will then join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead in season 2."
Currently untitled, this infection-in-the-air story takes place during the outset of the zombie apocalypse. The special will premiere online and will also be shown on TV in separate segments during the commercial break slots of The Walking Dead Season 6.

Is iZombie's procedural case-of-the-week aspect dragging down the rest of the show? Maternity Liv suggests so...
This review contains spoilers.
1.6 Maternity Liv
When a show with two very distinct elements like iZombie is so much better at one of those elements than the other, it can hurt the entire thing. So, while the ongoing mystery, Blaine’s involvement and Liv coming to terms with her new life are all developing really nicely across this first season, we also have to deal with the case-of-the-week.
Some might enjoy the different personalities Liv adopts each week, and the procedural element that’s proven popular on other shows and other networks, but I feel like it’s really dragging otherwise decent episodes down. It might come down to personal preference, but something about the amount of time spent on Liv, Ravi and Clive solving each week’s mystery seems unbalanced, and the show...

Liv rediscovers her zest for life in the latest Veronica Mars-channelling episode of iZombie...
This review contains spoilers.
1.5 Flight Of The Living Dead
iZombie should be ridiculous. On paper, it is ridiculous, but in practice the first four episodes of the new show seemed to be playing it a little safe for the subject matter. There was humour, sure, but there wasn’t as much of an embrace of the absurdity a show about zombies working in a morgue and starting up evil organisations should really have. This week, with the help of a case personal to Liv and a guest spot from Ryan Hansen, that changed.
It was the most Veronica Mars-ey instalment so far and, although it’s pointless to compare the two shows with any regularity, in its early days the ghost of Rob Thomas’ early work can be used to get the audience on side.

iZombie, Season 1, Episode 5: “Flight of the Living Dead”
Written by Dierdre Mangan

Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW
Last week’s episode of iZombie showed that, while Liv and Blaine weren’t the only zombies in this world, this was far from a comforting fact, as Blaine was building his own army of loyal subjects whom he was teaching how to blend in with the population. This week’s episode continues to build on that idea, introducing two more zombies and continuing to add details to the show’s universe in an enjoyable episode that opens the door for many storytelling possibilities.
The introduction of Lowell into the world of iZombie opens up a lot of fascinating directions the show could go in. Not only does it give Liv a chance to open up to someone who understands what she’s going through,...

The previous episode of iZombie saw the procedural mystery elements take a backseat to learn more about Clive. In "Flight of the Living Dead," the mystery is front and center, but it is way more complicated than could ever be deemed necessary. The death of Liv's sorority gets completely lost, and instead, this installment of iZombie exists to introduce Liv's new love interest, Lowell. Thankfully, Lowell grows to be quite charming despite his rather lifeless introduction scenes, though that lifelessness may be intentional.

iZombie + Veronica Mars = our dream pairing. Let's face it, seeing two of Rob Thomas' quippiest blondes together would be a little too much for our hearts to handle this early on in iZombie's run, but that doesn't mean we can't handle a delightful dash of Veronica Mars in our zombie drama. Veronica Mars fan-favorite Ryan Hansen, who played the lovably deplorable Dick Casablancas on the beloved series and in its movie comeback, is set to guest star in tonight's episode, "Flight of the Living Dead," and we have your exclusive first look at him in all his sarcastic glory. And yes, his character is basically Dick Casablancas 2.0 and we love it! Hansen plays Carson...

Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

Yesterday saw the release of the latest World War Z trailer. Here's what we've learned from it...
When the first trailer for World War Z landed last November, some fans of Max Brooks' source novel voiced their displeasure. After all, the book, written as a series of first-person accounts of a zombie epidemic, hinted at a documentary-style adaptation rather than the slick, Hollywood disaster movie director Marc Foster appears to have made.
The cynicism surrounding World War Z: The Movie something we've written about before, so we won't go over it again here. But the more pressing question, now that five-or-so months have elapsed and a second trailer has emerged, is this: can the adaptation win over its critics, and lure in the potential audience which will make it a summer season hit? Let's take a closer look at the footage, and see what we can learn.

How many of you would like a car for Christmas? What if you knew that vehicle was a mobile torture unit? I’m afraid you’ll have to settle for the movie Creep Van coming to DVD just in time for holiday season.
The director, writer, and star of the 2006 direct-to-dvd torture porn thriller Gag have reunited for Creep Van, a grisly new motorized chiller that sounds a little like Christine meets Saw.
Synopsis:
Life without a car can be murder. Nobody is going to learn that lesson faster than Campbell Jackson (Brian Kolodziej; Gag, Flight of the Living Dead), a 20-something, out of work, out of options misfit in Detroit. Forced to take a dead-end position at a local car wash, Campbell sees a dilapidated 1970s van for sale. Little does he know it is the Creep Van, which is busy terrorizing the people of Michigan, creatively dispatching victims...

The first Quarantine was adapted from the same screenplay as the Spanish film “Rec’. The two movies were in production at virtually the same time, though Quarantine was released a little later. Despite this fact, it’s still met with the same level of vitriolic bandwagon minded remake bashing that any other remake receives, especially if it’s based on a popular foreign film that’s suddenly become “cool” because of it’s sub-popculture status. Is it possible to love “Rec” but loathe “Quarantine”? I suppose anything is possible, but I think you’d really have to be looking for reasons to hate it in the first place. This mysterious sequel to Quarantine was made for one third of the budget of the original, and appears to have been written as a standalone movie, and then re-written into the world of Quarantine. Like some of the later “Hellraiser” sequels that...

I have been asked many times over the years, "Will you never learn?" I'm guessing it's more of a rhetorical question, mostly based on it being said by the same people, over a large quantity of years. The simple answer is: no.
Now you're probably wondering what the relevance is, so I'll tell you. An email came through from Geek Towers, asking if I'd be interested in watching Burning Bright, so the first thing I did was look at the slightly simple, yet alluring poster and assumed it was horror. In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?"

What seems like a standard commercial flight goes horrifically wrong when a few scientists fail to keep their experiment contained. The fact that said experiment is a living person who’s been intentionally infected with a modified version of the Malaria virus should indicate where this story is headed (if the goofy film title didn’t already lead you down the proper path). Under guise of a nasty thunderstorm and the subsequent turbulence, the genetically altered captive is freed from confinement. When a long lost extra from Wolfgang Peterson’s Outbreak pumps the escapee full of lead, all hell officially breaks loose.
Up jumps the corpse, fully reanimated with an evident thirst for blood. The stellar guard on duty is quickly disposed of, but not for long, as he too rises after being turned into a human entrée. It’s safe to assume this problem escalates at an alarming rate,...

Not Quite Hollywood: Fans of “Ozploitation” will jump over the barbie for Mark Hartley’s winning documentary on exploitation films produced in Australia since the ’70s, tackling everything from Patrick to Wolf Creek. Just about anyone ever associated with an Australian genre film is interviewed here, including actors (Jamie Lee Curtis and Stacy Keach on Road Games; Dennis Hopper on Mad Dog Morgan), directors (George Miller, Brian Trenchard-Smith, the late Richard Franklin), screenwriters (Everett De Roche, who wrote almost every Aussie fright flick) and producers (Antony Ginnane, who wrangled financing for...
