Christmas with the Parkinsons

Butterflies was a bittersweet comedy and was one of my mum's favourites.

This Christmas special from 1979 sees Ria doing the Christmas shopping for presents and sees notes left on her windscreen wherever she goes.

Ria later bumps into her unrequited love Leonard Dunn. His wife had returned but he is still not happy and he has sent an anonymous christmas card to Ria.

Meanwhile her husband Ben is worried that Ria is up to something. She keeps giving him that longing look that make men miss their train in the morning.

As for Ria's cooking, she messes up the pizza for lunch. Ben and the kids promised to be nice about her cooking.

One thing notable was that back in 1979, you could go to the high street and park you car in front of a shop. Now it would be slapped with a penalty notice or towed away.

Sadly forty years later. Geoffrey Palmer and Andrew Hall have passed on.
