This is my favorite episode of the show, it's also the darkest episode of the show. It really tackles a deep issue about inner beasts, the feelings and desires we all repress within and sometimes find a way out.
I like the fact that it take place in a school bus and on a field trip. There is a lot of truth to this because some of the craziness that occurs from the ride sometimes does happen. It's hard to say why, the space, stretch of the road or just the length of time everyone has to sit close to one another. And also the fact that it takes place in the fall really adds to the atmosphere, the color of the fallen leaves look like fire making the enviorment look hellish.
We just see everyone just go off the rails from Stu Benedict whom clearly shouldn't of been driving, honestly is he the only bus driver in town. However it's really older Pete that is the main focus, it was really surreal go to the dark side of the force; but it just goes to show none of us are truly immune to the darkness within. I really like his back and forth with Endless Mike whom is sort of the Devil figure for Old Pete as he is constantly keying him in on Pete's swelling jealousy, and driving him to the dark side.
But despite everything Old Pete goes though it was a way of showing how his feelings for Ellen really grew, he really saw Ellen as more than just a friend. The problem is he hasn't sorted it completely out, nor has had the time which of course is what sets him off.
You really can learn a lot from the journey than the destination.
