- Ray and Debra can't get a good night's sleep after Ally starts sleeping in their bed.
- Ally has been sleeping in Ray and Debra's bed a lot recently, and Ray is tired of it because he can't get a good night's sleep. The whole family has their own opinions on the issue. Ally complains that there are monsters in her room. Debra was sleeping in the room with her, but Ray didn't want her to do that. So, Ray gets his mother to spend the night in Ally's room with her...without Debra knowing about it.
- Ally is having trouble sleeping in her own room, much to Ray's dismay. Ally has a tendency to kick Ray in the private parts. Ally says that there are monsters under her bed and that she is afraid. The twins are not afraid of monsters as one of them sleeps while the other is on guard duty.
Eventually, he turns to his mother for help. Ray goes over to Marie's to borrow the heating back for his bad back. Robert tries to correct Ray's back by straightening his spine, but that only makes it worse. Marie's intervention comes with disastrous (and comedic) results. Marie thinks that Ally's sleeping troubles might be because of Debra's bad cooking which might be causing indigestion.
Robert says that Marie used to give him a cup of warm colored sugar water and that used to put him right to sleep. It is revealed that Marie would give Robert booze before bed to get him to sleep in his own bed. Robert was also never given cashews as he could choke on them.
Frank understands that the Ally thing is interfering with Ray and Debra's sex life. Frank advises Ray to be tough with Ally and force her to sleep in her own bed. Frank tells Ray not to coddle his kids as when kids are protected, they are unable to survive in the real world.
Ray implements the "Tough Plan" with Ally and refuses to allow her to sleep in his and Debra's bed. But Ally can't sleep in her bed. Ray sticks to his guns and says that Ally is trying to play them. Debra decides to give Ally company, when Ray won't allow her to come into his bed.
Debra is tired and irritated the next day. Ray gets into a whole argument with Debra about how she bought a prune juice bottle at the supermarket that was tampered with since the top did not pop when Ray opened it. Eventually, Debra loses her cool and says that she had some juice before Ray came in and does not remember if the top popped as she was tired. She demands that Ray puts Ally to sleep the next night. Ray has a big day at work coming up, but Debra doesn't care. Ray asks Marie for help without telling Debra. Marie is spending the night with Ally in her bed. Ray believes that this will prove to Debra that they have other options when it comes to putting Ally to sleep. But Marie has to be out of the house by 5 am.
Ray goes back to his room and tells Debra that he has put Ally to sleep and he has taken care of her situation.
Frank comes barging in during the middle of the night, since Marie has been missing. Ally comes in screaming as she is scared of Marie who looks like a ghost after putting on night cream. Debra figures out what Ray did.
Finally, the entire family ends up in the same bed, when Michael and Geoffrey come in. Ray allows them all to stay as he is afraid of being alone with Debra.
