Unpopular opinion: This is a great episode

Warning: Spoilers
I know a lot of people hate this episode mainly due to the infamous panda scene (I won't exactly go in detail on what happened because it is rather unpleasant), but I personally didn't think the episode was actually that bad.

The plot goes is that Homer is starting to lose a lot of money, and in order to get more money, he does some devious jobs for Mr. Burns.

I gotta say that many of the scenes here were actually pretty funny, the part where Homer throws pudding into Lenny's eye was easily one of the best moments of the series and the scene where Homer eats the Spider-Man comic was so funny I nearly died of laughter while watching it.

Despite the fact I like this episode, I gotta say that the infamous panda scene was extremely disturbing and made me feel bad for Homer, it felt like a Family Guy joke than a Simpsons joke. The ending was also quite bad too as it involves Mr. Burns throwing fish guts on everyone and then the seagulls attack the town of Springfield, it felt like an awful way to end the episode.

Overall, I actually really liked this episode aside from the disturbing panda scene.

Not recommend if you're a hardcore Spider-Man fan!

Warning: Spoilers
Here we have a very simple idea that turned out working pretty damn well, delivering lots of good jokes and some of those truly memorable things that you'll bring to the conversation of great Simpsons moments. It's not really a perfect episode but Homer vs. Dignity is more than just a watchable one.

Here two minor subplots will build perfectly the main one. On one hand we the Simpsons in a very bad economical situation, hell they are just unable to afford anything. On the other hand we have Smithers out of town, so we have Mr. Burns alone (is just as expected as hilarious to watch how damn useless is Mr. Burns!). It's pretty obvious what will happen, and believe Homer together with Mr. Burns is often pure dynamite!

The episode doesn't give you anything new of both characters, but certainly that's just fine. Still is pretty darn extreme having Homer literally eating the number 1 of Spider-Man just for Burns' amusement! I mean, I don't think any hardcore Spider-Man fan, or just comic book fan will suffer anything less than Comic Book Guy! Definitely that's THE moment of Homer vs. Dignity (also the whole Panda thing was hilarious! Poor Homer!). Lisa's role here is also the expected but anyway, this is a very good show.

Entertaining episode

To find this episode funny, which it is true that at first sight it is not, you need to watch some Youtube videos by pranksters. Then you'll understand that the fun of this episode was to parody the prank shows and (here more blatant), you'll find it funnier or more fascinating.

Despite the infamous panda scene, I like it.

Warning: Spoilers
The reason why this is a 7 is because I straight up like seeing how hypnotized Homer is by money and how wacky it gets.

It kind of bothers me that nothing bad happens to Mister Burns despite this being one of the worst episodes for him acting evil.

It's sweet seeing Homer donate all of that money for those kids toys.

It's a character torture episode just like the "My Sister, My Sitter" episode with Season 8.

If this behavior of torturing characters was common place instead of kind of rare this definitely would be a 6 instead.

This time it's with Homer instead of Lisa.

This episode does definitely feel like they 'jumped the shark' with this plot.

Wow! Such a bad episode

Homer becomes Burns' prank monkey in a woefully unfunny episode from what I am finding to be a weak S12 of the show.

The writers, having moved the focus of the show a little from Bart to Homer, at this stage seemed to be trying to test the water as to how dumb they could make him.

Some of the jokes here are beneath the character, and the show.

Not a good episode at all.

What a bad episode

Mr Burns was at his worst moment here, he treated Homer like a punching bag and forced homer to act like a panda and the jokes are disturbing, racist and cruel even Mr Burns was acting so unlikable towards Homer and he never gets punished for his actions.

Panda Love!
zacpetch7 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
There is NOTHING to like about this episode at all. It starts with Bart witnessing his teacher and principal making out while he hides in a cupboard. Next we see our titular family singing in a restaurant after they fail to pay for food. It's a downhill spiral from there.

The plot sees Homer turn to his boss Mr Burns for more cash but Burns will only give it to him if he becomes his new "Prank Monkey" which leads to Homer eating an immeasurably valuable comic in front of The Comic Book Guy and lying on the floor in public pretending to be a baby. If that's not disgusting enough for you try what follows this when Homer is tasked with pretending to be a female panda at the zoo and being put into an enclosure with a hormonal male panda. That's right: Homer Simpson just got (implicitly) raped by a panda. Yep, that happened.

Needless to say, that scene has helped propel this episode -- deservingly so -- onto many peoples' lists of worst episodes of this show. The Simpsons would Jump The Shark many times over its very long run but never again would it happen in such a distasteful manner. Rob Lazebnik wrote this episode's script and let's just say that there's a reason he'd not be back for more than eight years. This is an episode to avoid. Watch it at your peril. You have been warned!
