Issa López's "True Detective: Night Country," the fourth season of the pulp crime series created by Nic Pizzolatto, kicks off with one heck of a hook. Scientists holed up at the Tsalal Research Station on the outskirts of Ennis, Alaska (which is itself on the outskirts of civilization in the sparsely populated state) are winding down after a long day of doing ... well, whatever it is they do up there (the first episode does not make this clear). They're doing laundry, making dinner, settling in for a movie ("Ferris Bueller's Day Off") with a bowl of microwave popcorn, and evidently content to be where they are.
And then, in an instant, they're not there anymore.
A delivery man who shows up with supplies, expecting help in unloading his truck, wanders through the station seemingly seconds after the sequence we've just observed (Matthew Broderick is still rocking out to The...

Suits has gained a new wave of fans on streaming services, becoming the most-watched series, even surpassing big-budget shows like Disney+ and HBO. Meghan Markle was already married when she started on Suits, but divorced her first husband before marrying Prince Harry. The chemistry between Harvey and Zoe on the show was effortless because the actors, Gabriel Macht and Jacinda Barrett, are actually married in real life.
As one of USA Network's most successful series to date, Suits has gone above and beyond in terms of quality, but that wasn't without some surprising Suits behind-the-scenes facts. Unafraid to get dark and gritty, while delicately balancing heart and humor alongside the drama, Suits follows the partnership between star lawyer Harvey Specter and fraudulent lawyer Mike Ross. Over the course of the show's seven seasons, Mike's secrets have become made known and writ large, including a jail stint. Yet, even with...

Mike Medavoy, CEO of Phoenix Pictures, is partnering with Mariel Hemingway and producer Sam Sokolow on a limited series about the life and times of Ernest Hemingway, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
The series will explore the famous writer’s life as often fictionalized in classic novels like “A Farewell to Arms” and “The Sun Also Rises,” and will also delve into the unexplored psychological trauma that haunted him until he took his own life in 1961.
Stephen Leeds and Mark Chambers penned the pilot script and will also executive produce the project, which is not yet set up at a network or streamer.
“Hemingway was a genius, a soldier, a spy, a revolutionary, and counter to legend, one of the most sensitive writers of his era.” Medavoy said. “He won both a Pulitzer and a Nobel Prize for Literature, medals for bravery in both World Wars, and even survived two plane crashes in one day.

HBO Max has a major job on its hands to justify its approximately $15 a month subscription fee, especially given the strong competition out there from established names like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Disney Plus faced a similar challenge last year in arriving onto an already-saturated streaming marketplace, but at least had the advantage of major series like The Mandalorian to promote. While HBO Max will eventually be home to the Snyder cut of Justice League, and has some originals for its first week of availability, the big draw right now is its enormous back-catalogue of movies.
Given the various corporate elements that are going into HBO Max, including the Warner Bros. library, owners AT&T will be hoping that the combination of brand recognition for HBO programming, and a deep bench of movies, will convince people to add a new subscription to their list. Though the summer sun is starting to beat down, most of us are still being encouraged to stay indoors for Covid-19 related reasons. It’s not much fun, but at the very least, there’s an absolute ton of stuff landing in June that should distract you from the call of the beach.
Of particular note is the newly launched HBO Max, which is trying to catch the eye of potential subscribers with a red-hot first month. Welcome to the HBO Max era! WarnerMedia’s streaming giant arrived on May 27 and is absolutely bursting with Warner movies, TV shows, and other titles. But time waits for no man or streaming service and each new month HBO Max will be expected to bring new content to the table. Things get started in June 2020 with the first batch of HBO Max new releases.
To be clear, the majority of the original series coming to HBO Max actually belongs to HBO. Shows like I May Destroy You (June 7), Perry Mason (June 21), and I’ll Be Gone in the Dark (June 28) all belong to HBO…which now just happens to be a part of HBO Max. Confusing stuff, we know, but rest assured that if you have HBO Max you’ll get these shows…and if you only have HBO, you can go ahead and just get HBO Max for the same price anyway.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry first started dating in May 2016, and in November 2017, they announced their royal engagement. With Harry and Meghan's relationship on every front page, the couple's relationship has also sparked interest in Meghan's previous marriage to film producer Trevor Engelson.
Meghan first met Trevor in 2004 and they got engaged in 2010 after six years of dating. They tied the knot a year later in a barefoot wedding at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on Sept. 10. However, their marriage was short-lived as Meghan and Trevor quietly separated in August 2013, citing "irreconcilable differences." According to sources, "things started to fall apart not long after the wedding" and the couple "really battled with long distances." "Trevor was based in La while Meghan was in Toronto, a five-hour flight away," an insider previously told Women's Day magazine. "It was a very difficult way to start married life." Meghan and Trevor never had any children together.

Say this for 2018: It can’t be any worse than 2017, right? (Spoiler: It totally can.) At least Netflix’s first batch of offerings inspires cautious optimism in the new year, with everything from the entire “Godfather” trilogy, “Marie Antoinette,” five different “Batman” films and five different “Bring It On” movies (did you even know they’d made that many?), “Midnight in Paris,” the complete “Lethal Weapon” collection, “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” and “The Truman Show” coming to the streaming service in January.

As for Netflix Originals, there are several: “Before I Wake” and “Rotten” are both available to stream as of January 5, “Somebody Feed Phil” and “The Polka King” premiere a week later, “The Open House” arrives on the 19th, and “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” and “Dirty Money” both debut on the 26th.

When you think Mandy Moore, early 2000s probably comes to mind. She was everywhere. Mandy popped up in The Princess Diaries, tore our hearts out in A Walk to Remember, made us laugh in Saved! and even got a little raunchy in her arc on the HBO hit series Entourage. Needless to say she a successful actress and singer. Mandy released hit songs such as "Candy," "I Wanna Be With You" and "Stupid Cupid," officially making her a double threat in Hollywood. But as quickly as Mandy rose to new Millennium fame she just as quickly faded into the abyss, unable to maintain such a streak of hits. She appeared in License to Wed and Because I Said So, both rom-coms that didn't really perform up to box...

Chicago – Any story involving family interactions is ripe for exploration, and John Krasinski (“The Office”) performs in and takes the director’s chair for the new film, “The Hollars.” This is his second directorial effort, looking at the somewhat dysfunctional title family during a medical crisis involving the mother (Margo Martindale).
John Krasinski is a well known affable guy, mostly for his role as Jim Halpert in the long-running sitcom “The Office.” He was born near Boston, and graduated from Brown University. He’s had a notable film career as well, with supporting roles in “License to Wed” (2007), “Leatherheads” (2008), “Away We Go” (2009), “Something Borrowed” (2011) and “Aloha” (2015). He broke his character mold this year in the Benghazi-inspired “13 Hours,” and now stars in and directs his second feature film, coming after “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men” (2009). He also became part of an official Hollywood “It” couple, with his marriage to actress Emily Blunt...

It was August 11, 2014. The theater was full with an advance screening of The Giver starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. The red carpet event was live-streamed prior to the showing as stars from the film flooded in and entered the New York City party while we, in Knoxville, Tenn., gazed at the screen.
I checked my phone for the time and came across a message on the screen.
“Actor Robin Williams found dead at his home. He was 63.”
A friend put it best when he said that hearing the news of Williams’s passing surprised him with grief.
It did the same for me.
Now, to this point, Robin Williams was just another face (or voice) on the screen to me. An actor who had given life to Genie in Aladdin, the main character of Flubber, and was Mrs. Doubtfire. Nothing of note, but fun most of the time.

If you want to see two old veteran actors kicking it on a hike along the Appalachian Trail, you’re in luck! The first trailer for A Walk in the Woods, which stars Robert Redford and Nick Nolte, was released today, . Here’s the synopsis:
After spending two decades in England, Bill Bryson returns to the U.S., where he decides the best way to connect with his homeland is to hike the Appalachian Trail with one of his oldest friends.
Directed by Ken Kwapis (He’s Just Not That Into You and License to Wed), the film looks to be relatively up his alley, since he’s mostly known for directing comedy films and television shows. With that being said, the film is also based on the memoir by the actual Bill Bryson (played in the film by Robert Redford), so there’s hope that this comedy will be...

Fun fact: Richard Linklater circled this project for a while before moving on. And while we would've preferred to see that version, Ken Kwapis ("Big Miracle," "License To Wed") has delivered a sugary take on "A Walk in The Woods," which seems like the easy-to-digest fare that his previous credits would indicate. And today, the first trailer for the film has landed. Based on the memoir by Bill Bryson, Robert Redford and Nick Nolte lead the movie as two pals who team up to hike the 2,100-mile-long Appalachian Trail. The twist is that they're old, so the comedy falls in that vein, which means your parents will probably really dig this, otherwise this might make some decent airline fare at some point. "A Walk In The Woods" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, and while it couldn't be slotted on the schedule of our team in Park City,...

Maybe if "Wild" hadn't done such a solid and visually rich job of portraying one woman's determination to restart her life by hiking 2000 miles, the banal platitudes and strange visual monotony of two older guys' determination to restart their lives by hiking 2000 miles in "A Walk in the Woods" wouldn't seem so subpar. Maybe if Robert Redford hadn't done such harrowing, committed and honest work as a man battling nature in "All Is Lost," Robert Redford's lax, barely engaged work as a man meandering through nature in "A Walk in the Woods" wouldn't seem so subpar. Maybe if "A Walk in the Woods" weren't having its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, a venue that doesn't always demand artistic or narrative experimentation but certainly rewards the work of risk-taking, it's bland and peculiar artistic and narrative flatness wouldn't seem so subpar. I didn’t see Robin Williams‘ attempt at a new sitcom, CBS’ The Crazy Ones. I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to think that the great Robin was, at only 62, already making the trip back to weekly TV half-hours after such a stellar, Oscar-winning career in films and such a bright, unhinged light on comedy stages for all of his career. It’s just too constricting for this kind of talent. It’s even sadder to think the show got cancelled after one season, a failure that must have been hard to take. No, my most recent memories of Robin Williams are on the big screen, where he seemed to be heading for a place of renewal, not only as the funnyman everyone knew, but really a fine dramatic actor. In this year’s The Face Of Love he played a supporting role as a man heartbreakingly...

On Friday, Lee Daniel’s The Butler hits theaters nationwide. The thing that has us most excited about the film is the ensemble cast that includes Oprah(!), James Marsden (hot) and Mariah Carey (still trying to make that acting thing work). At the domestic box office this weekend, Pain and Gain claimed the top spot with a decent $20.2 million, while The Big Wedding was a big flop. The Paramount film achieved only a fraction of the opening weekend grosses of Bay’s Transformers films, but it only cost a fraction — just $26 million — of those films as well. It’s well on its way to profitability.

Find out what these and plenty of other stars are actually up to. Believe it or not, most of them are in fact still working. (We didn't believe it either.)

Ken Kwapis is not a director that we pay attention to much, mostly because his filmography is just a bit out of our demographic. Back in the 90s, he directed the orangutan comedy Dunston Checks In, and more recently helmed lighthearted fare like The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, License to Wed, He's Just Not That Into You, and Big Miracle. But his next project sounds like a big departure for the filmmaker, as Deadline reports that he's writing and directing an adaptation of Diana Wagman's novel The Care and Feeding of Exotic Pets. A whole mess of casting news blips itself onto our radar every day. It's often interesting, sometimes unexpected. But almost never is it the possibility of Robin Williams becoming a television actor again, 30 years post-Mork & Mindy. David E. Kelley — the Emmy-winning creator/writer behind L.A. Or the back-to-back blahhh of 2006's Rv and '07's License to Wed? Why didn't Williams...

Rating: Not Yet Rated
Release Date: October 26, 2012
Trailer Score: 2/10
Thoughts by Tsr: When I saw the poster for The Big Wedding I thought it was a fake movie. It even featured Robin Williams as a priest looking photoshopped in from the seminal 2007 film License to Wed. Then I discovered it was very real and hoped that the cast could elevate it above the usual romantic comedy tedium. Well, this trailer has made one thing clear: no amount of past Oscar winners could make this anything other than another hopelessly generic waste of talent.
This thing is rife with uninspired slapstick, unfunny jokes, talented actors looking bored out of their minds, and Katherine Heigl. None of those things result in an enjoyable time at the movies. Names such as Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon,...
