Directed by Michael Hurst aka Iolaus and several other Xenaverse characters. A year earlier, he played Widow Twankey the dance instructor in ...And Fancy Free (1997) and Men in Pink (1998). "...And Fancy Free" had a title based on Footloose (1984) (from which this plot gets its basic premise), while "Men in Pink" prominently featured Autolycus, whose love of dance here may be a result of Widow Twankey's dance troupe saving his life in the earlier adventure.
Gabrielle's muse has inspired her to create a form of Irish Step dancing.
The title is an homage to "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. However, the plot is closer to the teen dance comedy Footloose (1984).
This is the third episode to have a scene where Xena takes a dump. The previous two were A Day in the Life (1997) and In Sickness and in Hell (1998).
Philipon is based on a "Baptist preacher" stock character, but there is also an element of Harold Hill, "The Music Man" of Broadway.
